At New Melones Reservoir, the water level dropped another foot last week and, unfortunately, it appears that the releases are getting greater than the inflow. It is looking like the level will not reach the Tuttletown ramp this year. Despite this, one launch ramp is open at Glory Hole Point and fish are being caught. Trolling anglers are catching some nice trout at 20 to 40 feet with shad pattern lures, as well as on kokanee lures. Big Fish winner at Glory Hole Sports last week was Bob James, of Murphys, with a 2-pound rainbow that hit a Rapala lure. The kokanee bite has improved in the last week as more anglers reported limits and the size is well up from last year with some going 16 to 17 inches. The kokes have moved deeper as the water warms, now around 50 feet. Standard dodgers, or sling blades, trailed by lures like Uncle Larry's spinners or Glitterbug Hootchies have been good, tipped with scented corn. Garlic has been a good scent of late.
