Dorothy Stegall Barnes, 56, former assistant vice president of teller operations for Pantex Federal Credit Union in Borger was sentenced in US federal court for the northern district of Texas on Thursday on one count of embezzling from a federally insured credit union.
Barnes took the money over a 14-year period, from September 1996 to November 2010. The missing funds were initially noticed in October 2014, when one of the teller had quit from the job and Barnes was assigned by the credit union president to count the vault of the said teller. Barnes reported that the vault was short of $380,000. However, during audit it was discovered that Barnes transferred $826,000 to her vault. Barnes admitted to that transfer but refused to admit the $380,000.
