...Case Study: The Dannon Company OL 690: Responsible Corporate Leadership Southern New Hampshire University March 25th, 2015 Introduction Danone, the parent company and U.S. subsidiary of Dannon, was founded in Barcelona Spain in 1919 by Isaac Carasso (Marquis, Shah, Tolleson, & Thomason, 2011). Isaac had the goal of developing a yogurt for more than the purpose of taste, but with additional inherent health benefits (Marquis, et al., 2011). The health benefits were based on the use of pure lactic ferments, which were initially prescribed by physicians due to their proven ability to help treat intestinal disorders (Marquis, et al., 2011). It was because of Carasso that consumers could have the added benefit of treating their intestinal disorder while nourishing their bodies. Daniel Carasso, Isaac’s son, was brought into the business and ultimately became CEO in 1939 after Isaac’s death (Marquis, et al., 2011). Prior to his father’s death, Daniel was able to take Danone to another level in 1929 when he founded it in Paris (Marquis, et al., 2011). Due to the extensive amount of competition in the yogurt business, Daniel leveraged the focus on health to differentiate Danone from the competition (Marquis, et al., 2011). After his father’s death, Daniel merged with two notable organizations in 1967 and 1973, Gervais and Boussois-Souchon-Neuvesel (BSN) respectively (Marquis, et al., 2011). These mergers resulted in rapid expansion throughout Europe, a newly named conglomerate...

...would be “the aspect of telling people about your business, product, or service. Then advertising, which is the way you present your business, the design of your web page or hard copy advertisements, and the way you look after and follow up with your customers.” In short, this definition boils down to the initial presentation of what you are marketing and then demonstrating good follow-up once a customer is obtained. This is important because customers tell other people, and customer service is the most effective form of marketing. Mentioned earlier is the statement that few people understand the definition of marketing, why it is important, or how it is managed. The next few paragraphs speak to these points. According to Perrault, Cannon, and McCarthy “Marketing is the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need-satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client.” This definition is very customer oriented and leads the reader to believe that a business adopting this definition is a business that views its purpose as producing something a customer, or group of customers want or need. Some business have a different outlook in that they view marketing as producing something easily or inexpensively made, and trying to sell it to people who may already be a...

...competitions. In blue oceans, demand is created rather than fought over. Thus, there is an ample opportunity for growth that is rapid and profitable too. On the other hand "Red Ocean" is regarded as the existing market space with numerous risks and limited opportunities with limited profit margin, whereby companies strive to sustain their position (Gruwer, 2014). The companies operate in saturated market conditions with numerous small and big players and try hard to exploit the demand of customers. Blue Ocean Strategy Blue ocean strategy is the new way of thinking, a new strategic mind – set, a bold and new path to winning the future. It is grounded in analysis and energizes everyone. Blue ocean strategy focuses on creating new markets rather than competing with existing ones so as to stand apart and keep the cost lower. The organizations adopting blue ocean strategy can create new market space, create new demands, focus on innovation and avoid competing in existing segment. Thus, this strategy pursues differentiation and low cost, by creating uncontested market space. It minimizes the risk and maximizes the opportunities and is considered as win – win outcome for both company and customers....

The habit of persistence is the habit of victory.” —Herbert Kaufman Above Ground Design is a company built on one product called the Aerial Chair. Craig Hines brought the idea of the chair into action by using inheritance money he got. The chair was a design that he personally developed and manufactured in a small shop in Montana. He originally developed the Aerial Chair out of curiosity, and for his own personal use. Craig was passionate about his product and desperately hoped for it to be a market success. In fact, he was an architecture student in Montana State University until he dropped out of school and ended up in South Africa sewing hang gliding planes where the idea of the chair first came to his mind. After going back to the states, Craig started taking lessons in order to get a commercial pilot’s license. During that time, Craig started thinking about making the first step towards designing the chair and translating his dream and ambitious into an actual product. Basic drawings for the chair were made on a napkin and Craig based his design on the hang gliding planes that he used to do while working in South Africa and then the design was...

Golden Valley has more than 30 processing plants in operations and annual sales of approximately $650 million. Much of Golden Valley’s management staff comes from their parent company with the previous president saying “The influence of our old parent company is still with us. As long as new products look like they will increase the company’s sales volume, they are introduced. Traditionally, there has been little, if any attention paid to margins. We are well aware that profits will come through good products in large volume.” (William D Perreault Jr.) Recently this company has gone through a transition with the removal of several directors and the prior president of the company. The newly elected president, Neal Middleton, is facing a severe decline in profits over recent years as well as low personnel morale. Golden Valley Foods, Inc. has major issues facing them with both a decrease in profits and low morale due to the recent departure from their parent company, removal of several directors and the introduction of a new president. ...Workplace Violence Case Study Walaa Essam, Group 52F ESLSCA Business School Workplace Violence Case Study Introduction This case study addresses the problem of workplace violence by analyzing two actual incidents which took place at two renowned multinational firms, which are “DaimlerChrysler’s Toledo, Ohio, assembly plant” and “Lockheed Martin”. The purpose of this study is to help finding a useful managerial tool to decrease the potential for future workplace violence that may lead to loss of life and unnecessary monetary loss. Managers are not necessarily equipped to develop appropriate measures to effectively deal with violent issues. Given the proper tool, managers can often work wonders. But we first need to look at how we define the problem of workplace violence. Generally, people think of workplace violence solely in the context of physical assaults or homicides. Many mental health professionals consider such a definition too narrow, and instead define workplace violence more broadly, such as "any verbal or physical assault or any violence that occurs in the workplace even if its source is not related to the work environment or any abusive, threatening, intimidating, or assaulting conduct against a co-worker whether physical or verbal. Such conduct can be seen in the form of shaking fists, throwing objects, destroying company property, written or verbal threats, swearing, insults, condescending language, hitting, shoving, pushing, kicking...

Views of buyer-supplier relationships have evolved from the old school of the 1980s, where buyers and suppliers were viewed as part of a zero-sum game, to the more collaborationist outlook of the 1990s, which claimed that buyers and suppliers could cooperate to the benefit of both, to the more network-oriented view of the 2000s, where buyers and suppliers are parts of organic business ecosystems. Today these relationships have become “strategic” and the process of relationships development is accelerated as firms strive to create relationships to achieve their goals. In this stressful environment of relationships...
