Background

Denise Roberge is the brand manager of Nupath Foods Ltd. Under her helm, the company sales is hiking a healthy growth of 20 percent in the past quarter. These have brought attention to various higher management , like James Ornath , direct superior. He was pleased with Roberge performance and decided to promote her to the position of marketing research coordinator.

Symptoms

However, his goodwill does not match with the Roberge’s own personal feeling regarding this promotion. She really enjoyed her present job scope and she regarded her new position as a “backroom” job that applied brakes to her climb up for corporate ladder. Roberge was troubled and kept to herself with all these negative feeling. Neither did she brought it up to Ornath about her feeling nor shared it with the higher management. After all, she concluded that she did not have a good rapport with her boss and never clarify with him too. On receiving the official promotion from Ornath, Roberge looked surprised and Ornath regarded this as a positive response from Roberge. Hence, Roberge did not even show her displeasure in the new position through her body language.

Main Causes
Roberge’s resentment leads her to ponder on the past career experience. She recall on how her previous employer told her that top management was not woman and this left a lasting impression on Roberge. Therefore, she concluded that she was actually being “sidelined” far from being promoted and Nupath was bias toward women in top management.
