‘Utilization of E-Logistics in Multinational Companies To Overcome Difficulties of Today’s Economic Environment’

The rapid emergence of the internet has greatly influenced the regular operations carried out by businesses. According to Auromo’s definition of E-logistics (as cited by Angheluta and Costea, 2010, P.1), “It can simply mean processes necessary to transfer the goods sold over the internet to the customers”. The integration of E-Logistics in a company’s supply chain model has resulted in several Web-based frameworks being created which are targeted for the use of the suppliers, management, other intermediaries and the customers for purchase as well as post-purchase services. An example used was DHL which uses on-line tools to track their shipments and also provides their customers with the convenience of tracking and tracing their shipments online without incurring additional costs (Angheluta and Costea, 2010, P.2). ELPIF: E-Logistics Processes Integration Framework is designed to apply “Automating process integration” to reduce time and cost, provide service efficiently, gain competitive advantage and aid companies to sustain despite any economic crisis (Angheluta and Costea, 2010, P.3). The article mentions two multinational companies and presents the efficiency of E-logistics integration in their Supply chain model. Volvo Logistics Corporation (VLC) and Haier Logistics Corporation (HLC) are subsidiaries of Volvo Group and Haier Group respectively and are responsible for the logistics and transportation operations. VLC offers packaging, designing, assembly, handling, distribution services and apart from their standard product designs, VLC enables their customers to order custom-made products on-line. ...On February 25th, 1990, paramedics arrived at a Florida apartment complex and found a woman by the name of Terri Schiavo laying face down in the hallway of her apartment. Upon arrival, the paramedic's medical analysis showed that Schiavo's breathing had ceased and a pulse could not be found. Several attempts at resuscitation were made on the way to the hospital and upon arrival Schiavo was intubated and hooked up to a mechanical ventilator to assist her with breathing and receiving proper nutrition. The official medical records contained notes with various revelations and remarks from doctors. The information that stood out the most from the files were notes shedding some insight on two severe issues that could very well explain why a young and seemingly healthy woman would go into cardiac arrest out of nowhere. Schiavo suffered from a disease known as hypokalemia which basically meant her potassium levels were dangerously low. After running an extensive amount of medical tests, doctors realized Terri had been a diet that consisted mostly of consuming calorie-free liquids which was found to be her way of keeping her weight under control. At the time, Terri was diagnosed with a severe brain injury and about a year later the diagnosis was switched to persistent vegetative state. The main difference now was that she had no chance of recovery.
