...Think about how your tone, or writing style, changes based on the different types of people you will be communicating with online. Remember that tone is very important when communicating online Consider this scenario: You were in a minor car accident. No one was hurt, but you are nonetheless a little rattled. How would you communicate your situation to family, friends, and classmates? Write a message of 150 to 250 words either to your family, friends, or classmates. Guess what, mom. I just got into a car accident, but it was minor. What am I going to do? I have never been into a car accident before and I am a little freaked out. I was on my way to work around 7:40 and you know how bad the traffic is on the road that I take. I knew I might be a little late to work and should have left a few minutes earlier. This is what happened; I was driving down State Road 588 when the traffic came to a dead stop, so I had to make a sudden stop. The car behind me was not paying attention to the line of cars that were stopped and they were going so fast that they ended up hit me from behind. The rear bumper is pretty dented and scratched up. The other driver and I pulled over to the side, so we exchanged our information. I called the police, so I could have an accident report, so I could give it to my insurance company. I am a little shaken up due to the accident, but thankfully I am not...

...Technical Vs Casual Writing Technical writing includes essays, papers, M.A. and Ph.D. theses, and report writing for grants and research. It is highly structured with suggestions for margin lengths, paragraph headings, research and above all a research study with experimental data, and a particular format. Whereas Casual writing has no specific rules to follow except to communicate with another person or group of people. Examples of casual writing would class notes, memos, friendly letters, diaries, and post-it notes, chatting and messaging etc. The finished paper has to be re-read in order to eliminate grammatical or typing errors, as these form part of the grading process in technical writing whereas the casual writer is free write its imagination and write as he or she would speak, without having to stick to a particular format. Sentences are mostly short and direct, with no further explanation needed. We frequently use emoticons, slang words etc while casual writing which sometimes can annoy reader or the message is not clear. Technical writing has advantage over it that the message is concise, understandable, and time saving. In casual writing there may be grammatical mistakes which lead to misunderstanding as compared to technical writing. But in my opinion writing casually is more easy and fun. You can write whatever you want to without tension of maintaining the structure and format of writing. An example of both is: Technical writing: This is to inform you that...

...Casual vs. Academic Writing; The Tone of Communication Technology has given individuals the ability of communicating with other individuals or groups in a non-face to face format. In addition to the written letter we can email, text, tweet, or post on social networking sites. Since we have this less personal ability of communicating we have to consider how our words are coming across to others. This is where we need to consider the tone of our communication. Why is Tone Important? Tone is extremely important in written communication because defines the senders emotion or attitude towards the subject of the communication. This is especially important when working in a business like environment. This is true because in business you are trying to get some task accomplished or a goal achieved. Therefore the tone should be formal, courteous and always use appropriate language. Is there ever a time when a one-size-fits-all message is appropriate? Or should you tailor each and every communication you write? There are situations where tone can be altered. There are no situations where a one-size-fits-all message is appropriate. You always need to tailor your tone based on who you are communicating with and the purpose of the communication itself. An example of this is our own classroom forums. We have the main forum and the chat room. The main forum is where all postings are more formal in tone. They are postings that will be graded on and should be taken in a more serious...

...Online education vs traditional education is the same education, except one you are sitting in a classroom and the other you are doing work from your computer. I have learned a lot from doing online classes. In high school, I didn't learn as much as I am learning now. I believe the long-term results and the value of completing a degree in higher education is standard. A higher education can successfully help you improve as an individual. As an adult, there are a lot of rules and regulations of having an higher education and making more money as well. Having a higher education can be move money that you can make such as, having a high school diploma you will have a job pay no more than $10.00 an hour. With an associate degree or higher you will make between $14 to $25 an hour. For my personal plan for my academic and career future, is to give all the potential I have. There is going to be some challenges ahead, but what if you don’t take the risk; you aren’t ready for any future challenges ahead. Completing a degree in a higher education will help you academically and professionally. Academically, you will find yourself becoming more educated than ever. Professionally, you can see yourself having more financial offers as for employers willing to hire you. If you have enough knowledge, you would know when going on a job interview you should have a resume` present. The three reflections that I really enjoyed throughout the nine weeks of this course are: critical thinking, goal...

...In George Orwell’s essay, “Politics and the English Language,”, he argues that the majority of political language and writing lack clarity, precision and purpose. According to him, the inability to write clearly has been a roadblock in the political process. Orwell summarizes that one must think and write clearly in order to communicate; once we communicate clearly, we can create political change. (note: Your interpretation is one way to interpret Orwell’s message. I also think that he is dissecting the Political language so people can recognize the faults and lies presented by writers/politicians. The general public may think they are excellent writers and are speaking/writing the truth. But in reality, Orwell is exposing the common rhetorical devices horrible writers manipulate to their advantage.) In human experience ,As Orwell clearly expresses, words are the most powerful vehicle for communication, as Orwell clearly expresses. Words call the unknown into action and create results that otherwise would have ceased to occur. For example, according to Christian faith, God called light “Day” and darkness “Night” in the story of Genesis. Behind words such as these, stem the thoughts that drive the cause. Orwell’s backing for this essay was clearly driven by the thought that there exists a decline in the language of political expression. The writing samples selected in Orwell’s essay, lack purpose and clarity, which initiate confusion for the reader, warranting little...
