...To whom this may concern, As a student of Reading College, I am writing on behalf of the Health and Social Care department about the current agenda of installation of CCTV cameras in classrooms and around the college campus. At present, I strongly believe that installing CCTV within classrooms is a breach of human rights and a downright and categorical invasion of one's privacy. I know that you have the best intentions of the Reading College students at heart but I feel that this safety procedure is not a requirement for our community college. Installing these cameras in all quarters of the college can cause students emotional distress. This stress can be caused by lack of trust and respect between students and teachers. I am sure you will agree with me that by installing these cameras you will give students and the general public a reason to doubt our safeguarding system here at Reading College. What events have occurred in the past or present, that our college government and community authority feel that it is safer to have their students every move to not only be monitored but recorded? In an interview my department and myself recently conducted, with head teachers from various schools across the South-East of England who had CCTV cameras installed in their classrooms. 88.5% regretfully agreed that their students were unsettled and worried by this major privacy change. They found that grades also dropped around 15% within the three months trial period. These facts...

Undoubtedly this small device, which has already reconfigured how everyday people engage with not only each other but also other devices around them, has given way to the Internet of Things concept, which gains tractions seemingly daily. Indeed, the idea of connecting all of the things we surround ourselves with through a central device has been the basis of custom home automation, but it is relatively recently that a universal device—the smart phone or smart device—has been recognized as the potential hub manager for this level of control. The impact has been visible and quantitative, especially in the security systems sector, which has experienced tremendous growth as a consequence. “Mobile smart phones have really been the catalyst for integrated security systems,” said Delia Hansen, Crestron’s residential marketing manager. “Prior to them becoming mainstream, it was perfectly acceptable to have a large, unattractive security panel at the front door. Now people are looking for more sophisticated options. The smartphone has been able to provide an answer ...

In the second quarter RLECC regular meeting held last week, the Sub-Committee on Intelligence Coordination (SCIC) identified the installation of the CCTV as a more effective tool in the anti-criminality campaign in the city. Accordingly, installation of CCTV systems especially in major business establishments and in identified crime-prone areas would lead criminals to be apprehensive in perpetrating their crimes. Atty. Elmer Sagsago of the Department of Justice has suggested that...

...Big Brother is watching you more closely than ever: CCTV cameras, the spies in our midst Privacy is essential to our humanity. It permits us to shape and maintain lives, from which personal identity, selfdetermination and freedom arise. In today’s society, however, undisturbedness is mainly an illusion. The line between privacy and public space has simply become as fragile as porcelain. This is due to increased monitoring of human behaviour. In “Big Brother is watching you more closely than ever”, written by John Kampfner in 2012, it is discussed whether surveillance provides protection or disturbs the individual liberty. A coherent structure in essence is the foundation for the written amount of text. The article consists of three components: an introduction, a body and a conclusion. Thus it achieves structural integrity. The text mostly centers on the subject of surveillance and its effect on society. To what extent the use of security cameras can be justified is, however, also a focus of attention. The major topic is presented in the introduction by using the words: “The march of CCTV cameras.” The ideas, to which the writer will adhere when discussing the theme, are likewise indicated in the introductory section. The body, where the issue is elaborated, covers the critical evidence that defends the position of John Kampfner. The documentation includes specific facts, description, quotations and references to authoritarian persons. Numerical examples are also used to...

...Big Brother is watching you more closely than ever: CCTV cameras, the spies in our midst Britain is one of the most watched-over societies in the world, with as many as two million CCTV cameras around the country. These cameras are supposedly to protect the British population, and to get criminals to reconsider what they are doing, before committing any crime. But according to John Kampfner, the author of the article “Big Brother is watching you more closely than ever: CCTV cameras, the spies of our midst”, which was published in 2012, this surveillance of the British population is a wrong way to fight crime. In the first part of his article John Kampfner writes, that if it was ever the case that security cameras were not up to their job, which is to make us feel secure, then it is certainly not the case right now. He writes about how Britain’s first surveillance commissioner Andrew Rennison has sounded a wake-up call, because he believes that most people have no idea how advanced the technology has become, and therefore also have no idea how much they are getting watched. In the next part of the text, John Kampfner mentions the Jamie Bulger case. Jamie Bulger was a two-years-old, who was abducted from a shopping centre in Liverpool. The surveillance cameras ended up leading to the conviction of the abductees. According to John Kampfner this was a great breakthrough for the police. He writes: “This was seen as a huge and very welcome breakthrough in policing. Although the...

...internet the theft of money from others is the largest due to a number of reasons, however the main reason is that its probably the easiest to do as more and more people are buying and selling products over the internet with the use of credit or debit cards. Criminals are easily able to access these details if members of the public aren’t careful with their details, for example if a member of the public puts their details into an unsecure website there is a great risk of a criminal obtaining this information. Crime prevention has been massively improved with the introduction of tracking devices, CCTV (Close Circuit Television), face recognition software and hacking which can, when used correctly, be used to trace the location or activity of a criminal. Personally, CCTV has never effected or helped me, but I have known people who have had their vehicle or important items stolen from vehicles; CCTV helped them to identify the theft and in one case retrieve the stolen item.[1] This is a table showing the amount of people per year that have fallen a victim to some form of cybercrime.[2] Victims per year 556 million Victims per day Over 1.5 million Victims per second 18 Identities exposed More than 232.4 million Crime and crime prevention was handed in very different ways before ICT was introduced. ...II. Introduction What is the so called Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV)? What is the purpose of installing CCTV cameras in the school, store, and even in the house? What are the benefits that we can get in using this device? Will it give us an assurance of perfect security that will make us feel safe? These cameras have also changed over the years. They were once large white boxes that could not zoom in or out or follow objects closely. Today they can be small in size and hidden not to be noticed. They have many advanced features including higher definition and being able to detect and follow motion in areas where there should be none. In the years since that time CCTV has become very common in non government and military sites. In the 1970's and 1980's CCTV was commonly used as an added security measure in banks. Many other retailers also began to use these CCTV's in their stores as a method to both prevent and record any possible crime. They are extremely popular in convenience stores and gas stations. Gas stations have used them to record drivers who leave without paying for their gas. There is no proof that CCTV's decreased crime rates, but they have been very successful in helping to apprehend criminals who were recorded in the act. CCTV’s gives a proof that can help you determine the crime done and who is the suspect in that incident. This is can be used to be informed in the events that are currently happening in school and this can be used to see if there is a bully...

...residing at No. 3, Jalan Haruan, Batu 10 81300 Skudai, Johor. The defendants which are Pua Yong Yong and Pua Keng Siang, reside at house No. 4 located immediately next to the plaintiff’s residence. A chain-link fence coupled with zinc sheets separates the two houses. Some misunderstandings arose between the plaintiffs and the defendants around February and March 2006. Subsequently the relationship between the plaintiffs and the defendants deteriorated to the extent that the one of the plaintiffs was charged and convicted for criminal intimidation against the defendants. On 13 May 2006, the defendants installed five closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their house. Four of the cameras are installed at the front porch while one is installed at the rear of the house. Out of these five CCTV cameras, only one CCTV camera which is camera number three located at the front porch is pointing directly at the plaintiffs’ house. This camera is attached to a nine feet pole which is about sixteen feet from the chain-link fence. Disputing Issues that raised the case The plaintiffs’ main complaint is that camera number three is directed and focused at and monitoring and capturing images of the plaintiffs’ front courtyard, and the camera at the rear of defendants’ house is directed and focused at and monitoring and capturing images of the rear portion of the plaintiffs’ house. As a result, the plaintiffs feel that they are being spied on and therefore their right to privacy...
