...Schools are trying to push back start times in school for children to get more sleep. If this happens many events could be disrupted. If schools start earlier we will lose money and this will result in many catastrophic events. Should schools take this chance? Schools should not start later, it could disrupt children’s after school schedule and cost a lot of money. Will school’s use this or not. If we started school later it will be costing about 8 million dollars to change the bus schedules. The school board will have to chose if they are going to change the schedule the schools will lose lots of money. In the video “Should schools start later in the morning?” it states that “After dropping the high schoolers the busses turn around drop the middle schoolers and then the elementary schoolers.” This could result in a hectic morning for the busses and if one change happens they might need to buy new busses for the high schoolers and that is what will cost a lot. If the school push the start times back it could result in consequences since they end school later too. I do not think that it would be smart to push the school times back because if we push school times back we are also pushing the end times back. Many children have homework or play...

...GE:102 7/07/12 Transition from high school to college When you went to college did you ponder on the thought on how much college was different from high school? The differences are substantial and can be a lot to handle at once. When I first got here I didn’t know what to expect coming straight out of high school. Till this day I still don’t know what to expect but as time goes on you learn to go with it and adapt to you surroundings. When I arrived at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) I noticed a few differences between my high school and my current university right away. The transition from high school to college was difficult to comprehend, because of the change in friends, not working, eating habits, environment, and my independence. My friends have changed a lot due to the transition from high school to college. I noticed that I have a rather difficile time keeping in contact with my friends back home. The distance between us makes it hard for us to spend time with one another. Also I have friends that attend other universities and the school schedule on top of my own makes it impossible for us to spend and adequate amount of time with each other. The thing I miss the most though would have to be working with my friends, they made it galvanize and worthwhile. I noticed since I have no one to share that same excitement with at any work place, I find myself not striving for employment. I haven’t had a job since I left high school, because I don’t feel like it’s for...

The skills of the teacher and also the content of the book vary from the degree of level of the students. Aside from this, the past of a student and also curiosity also help them to learn and explore new things. After my elementary graduation, curiosity drove me to wonder about life. There are a lot of questions I formulated in my head like, would the regulations be the same? Would I able to cope with the changes? Would I meet people that can change my outlook towards life? And lastly is my high school life going to be happy? We were all soon to separate but those students who still beg for the support of their friends they must need to stop acting as a parasite and they must learn to stand on their own. To all people who I met in this journey especially to the teachers, friends, and classmates and to those villains I give you all my gratitude. For the last time thank for the knowledge and for the memories you gave me. High school...

...From middle school to high school a lot of people experience immense changes in themselves. For me transitioning into high school was one of the biggest changes I have ever experienced. At first, this change was scary but once I realized the positive impact it would have on me personally, I was more open to the ideas. This change gave me many new skills and experiences that I could never have experienced in middle school. My move from middle school to high school has changed my personality, interests, and standards for academics. P1: Being placed in a new unfamiliar environment has made me more social and has improved my attitude towards life. My middle school years were the worst years of my life. ...With teenagers' busy schedules today, the first activity to give way is usually sleep. However, the sleep deficit of teenagers today is hampering high school students' achievement. To accommodate for teens' sleep needs, high schools should start later in the day than they do now (based on review of several newspaper articles, it appears that most schools starting times range from 7:00-8:30 a.m.). This action would better satisfy the sleep needs of teenagers, improve their academic performance, be beneficial for families of elementary school students, and increase safety. Delaying the high school schedule, even if only by half an hour, would be beneficial to the sleep needs of teenagers. Studies have shown that after puberty, teenagers require more sleep (about 9.5hrs) but get less sleep (about 7.5hrs). (1) Mary Carskadon of Brown University performed an elaborate scientific study on the sleeping patterns of adolescents. (2) Her research, later verified by other studies, found that not only do teenagers need more sleep, their sleep patterns shift. (3) After puberty, teens' circadian rhythms shift into a delayed phase. Indicators of the circadian rhythms other than the sleep-wake cycle , such as temperature , hormone secretion , and melatonin level , all start and end later in the day than when they had prior to puberty. This is why teenagers would do better to go to bed later and to wake up later. Of course, it would be best for them to use the extra time to get more sleep,...

...many topics of concern when it comes to education that we do not even know where to begin. The school board meets several times throughout the school year to meet and discuss all these concerns but it seems that the outcome of this meetings never fully resolve the problems. This is way there will be always an ongoing debate topics that circle our education system. One of the many topics that is has caused a debate discussion is whether or not education should be relevant to tomorrows job market. There are two types of groups that have different opinions in this subject matter. The Perennialist’s believe that all students should be thought things of everlasting importance. They believe that students should learn material that will develop them into well rounded adults that will be capable of fitting into the work field. Perennialist’s also believe that students should be thought scientific reasoning since the details of facts are constantly changing and some of this information would be useless. A student can develop skills that will be utilized in the working field. Most students today are not motivated to learn and even less motivated to obtain continued studies after high school graduation. These students will benefit from skills training and linking school and work motivates students. ...“School Starting For Teens Later In the Day” Could you imagine if school didn’t start until later in the day? How would high school students react and what kind of impact would play into their daily lives? If high schools’ were to start later in the morning, and end later in the day, students would significantly benefit of getting at least eight to nine hours of sleep each night. Imagine how refreshed and awake teens would feel in the morning. High schools should consider changing their hours in order to benefit not only their staff, students, but also their hopes that every student graduates because attaining a few more hours of sleep could ultimately alter the outcome of a student’s educational future. Researchers’ state that getting at least eight hours of sleep can help students be able to think more clearly and creatively throughout the course of the day. It also helps put students in a more positive mood and allows them to restore energy quicker than they originally would. By getting enough rest, teens can demonstrate a better level of understanding since their bodies are fully restored with energy, causing them to be more awake during the lessons presented to them. With students in a more positive mood throughout the day, they would get along better with both their peers and their teachers. And if one things for sure, the less teachers have to worry about… the better. Also, having high schools change school hours until later in the day can become a huge advantage...

...Research has shown that teenagers have internal sleep clocks, and have a difficult time going to sleep later and waking up earlier than normal. It has been thought that high school classes should begin and end at a later time. in my opinion, I disagree with this idea for a few reasons including; jobs that teenagers may have in high school, extra curricular activities , and it may also inflict on the pick up and drop off of the students to and from school. Making this change would not be a good idea. Many high school students have part time jobs in high school. Having to go to school later in the day may cut hours at work for the students. Those that have jobs most likely drive a car and have to pay insurance and make car payments...

...Moberly Adolescents Would Benefit by Starting School Later Morning after morning I find myself fighting the same battle, getting my son out of bed. Many times, I think he is awake and walk away only to come back and find he is snuggled back under is covers sleeping soundly. This doesn’t typically make for a good morning for either of us. In my own rush to get ready and out the door to work, my frustration builds. It is very difficult to hide frustration at times. He picks up on the stress and is put on the defensive while he is in his own rush to get ready and out the door. My frustration always came from a very practical standpoint. This young man is 18 years old, why can he not wake up to the six alarms he has set? He used to do such a good job at getting himself up, what happened? I would compare him to myself as a teenager. I didn’t have anyone to make sure I got out of bed and to school on time, I was responsible for myself. I knew it wasn’t right to compare two people, everybody is different. I then started thinking about the situations. What things in his life are different than mine at the time? There are many, but one that really stood out. I started school at 8:30 a.m. His school starts an hour earlier. I only did a little research at the time, and it showed that teenagers, in general, require more sleep. I also talked to a few of my son’s friends and their parents. Krista Carden, a senior at Moberly High School, stated that she has to get up at 5:00 a...

...In a recent article in The Clarion – Ledger there were some debates about the later start time for high school. This discussion has become an issue among some families. Some say sleepy teenagers are likely to be tardy, absent, and moody, but that is true in some cases. Many people say that a later start time for high school students more sleep and a later open bell can help improve the lack of sleep. That may be true, but going to bed a reasonable time at night will help. The idea of changing school time would cause a major disorder in the school and the students’ schedule. For students who play sports will be getting out of practice later than they did without the later start time for school. By the time these students get home, they will...

...English/Surinak Senior Research Paper Period 2 Wake Up Later and Your Grades Will Be Greater High school is a part of every teenager’s life whether they like it or not. Although it is not a requirement; most, if not all, teenagers will experience at least one year of high school. With the experience of high school, students will also go through waking up early sometimes at five or six a.m. The starting time of high schools has been highly debated for several years. Those who debate this topic usually dispute on whether or not changing the time would be beneficial. Psychologists estimate that as many as 30% of children may have a sleep disorder at some point during childhood. Sleep disorders have implications both for social-emotional adjustment and for school performance. For this reason it is important for both parents and educators to understand how sleep works and how disruptions in normal sleep patterns can affect children and teenagers. Starting school just a half an hour later would benefit the most families and students, and also to accommodate for teens' sleep needs. One of the main beneficial topics to argue for starting school later is attendance. Schools should start later because it is proven that students will have higher attendance. If students can get more sleep, they are more likely to attend school on a regular basis. Studies have shown that after puberty, teenagers require more sleep, around nine and a half hours, and are getting less than needed...

...in a cliché high school setting where a new girl joins the “popular clique” to secretly scheme behind their backs and ruin their control over the school. She had never been to public school before and was putting her best foot forward to fit in. This is a prime example of a typical teenage crisis, which is fitting in while maintaining your true character and labeling fake friends during the teenage years of life. The search for friendship begins around the age of thirteen because this is age of middle school. Middle school is usually the easiest years of being a teenager due to the fact that everyone is new to the school so they act normal. ...to my employees and my bosses. After some time had passed things began to change. I quit my job because started to see people for who they truly were. When I first began working at this boutique I fell in love with my job. I enjoyed working with the public, and got very close to the other employees. I was on cloud nine until I was close to a year of employment at this boutique. My bosses were two sisters who lived locally. They made friends with their employees. They took me out to eat, and out for drinks on my days off. Although they were immensely older than I, and not to mention they were my bosses, they felt more like friends rather than my bosses. I was one of the lucky few to admit that I loved what I did. After a year of working at this boutique things changed. One of the employees was bad mouthing me and other fellow employees. The owners believed her, as she was higher in the company. I was never asked my side of stories that were being told. I went months without any contact to my bosses. I never knew why they were mad at me. Finally I got up the courage to write them an email. In my email I explained my feelings and especially my confusion over the whole situation. The reason why they ended up being mad at me was entirely different than I had ever thought. My bosses were angry because I wasn’t enrolled in school before, and then had changed my school schedule to five days a week, minimizing my availability. School has always been a priority for me...
