Changes Of Bilbo Baggins Since its first publication in 1937, The Hobbit has been rendered into more than a dozen film adaptations. Each of these films portrays a new perspective to the original work with variations big and small. Essentially, the movie versions can be seen as interpretations of Tolkien’s text since visual media cannot fully convey the events and character entirely. Once put on a screen, the plot must be shortened to fit the running time, character simplified and made symbolic. A case in hand is the 2012 movie edition directed by Peter Jackson. The main difference between the film and the text is that the movie focuses more, maybe too much on the character Bilbo Baggins. As a result, in Tolkien’s text the story is told by an omniscient narrator whereas the movie from Bilbo’s Perspective. Tolkien’s description of Bilbo reflects the culture and underpinnings of Middle-earth during the third age by presenting him as a “Baggins”, a well-respected family among the Hobbit community, an eager adventurer and a philosopher who is a product of his time while the movie presents him as a cowardly man, afraid of the world outside of the Shrine. Consequently, viewers of The Hobbit see Bilbo differently, which dilutes Tolkien’s portrayal of Bilbo’s personality trait as a hero.
Firstly, in Tolkien’s narrative text, the themes of heroism and Bilbo’s character development from being an average hobbit into the hero at the end of the story looms largely not only as an exposition but perhaps more importantly, forces that lead him into discovering his true inner courage. Through out the story although Bilbo is surrounded by greed, vengeance and anger he prevails and managed to maintain his faith and common sense. The novel begins with a narration describing the life of a hobbit, Bilbo’s in particular and the history of middle earth laying out the historical and situational setting of the story.
Bilbo looked like any other ordinary hobbit you might see, he was between 3 feet and 3 feet 6 inches. Bilbo’s clothing was of green velvet breeches, red or yellow waistcoat with brass buttons, brown or green jacket, dark green hood and cloak, and a Mithril shirt. There are many differences between Tolkien’s The Hobbit and Jackson’s Hobbit including Bilbo’s physical features.
Some differences between Bilbo’s appearances were in the book Bilbo has a fat stomach and long clever brown finger but it The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey he doesn’t appear to at all. Bilbo is announced that he is more than fifty years old in the book but in the movie Martine Freeman, who portrays Bilbo, doesn’t appear to be fifty at all. These are just a few small psychical appearances that are different from the book and the movie.
There was a great deal of inadequate differences between Bilbo’s actions in the book and his actions in the movie. Here are numerous occasions that Bilbo’s actions differ from the book; In the text, Bilbo sees a group of trolls and decides to sneak up on them so he can pickpocket them, while in the move he goes after the goblins because they had stolen their ponies for food and he wanted to rescue them. A key point in this adventure for Bilbo is in the book he was knocked on and didn’t see the ring being lost and came across it by accident in the cave. In the movie Gollum fights with a goblin which is when the ring flies out of his pocket and lands on the ground. After the ring falls on the ground Bilbo sees it and puts it in his pocket and Gollum drags the dead goblin away.
Bilbo's most courageous act in my opinion was when all the dwarves were stuck in the trees as the wargs were trying to get them. In the book Gandalf fights them off with flaming pinecones and sets the trees on fire as he calls the Eagles to come rescue. In the movie Bilbo finds his courage and jumps out of the tree towards the Pale Orc who was seconds away from killing Thorin. After Bilbo's courageous act, the Eagles (part of The Five Armies) come in and save them from the wargs.

Who Is Bilbo In The Hobbit

...Bilbo Baggins Character Analysis Rough Draft “Hobbits really are amazing creatures… You can learn all that there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you at a pinch.” Bilbo is relatable to many people, even though he is a hobbit and not human. Bilbo found characteristics of himself that he did not know he had. Now he has more titles than just the hobbit under the Hill, he is an adventurer. Tolkien uses Bilbo as the central character to tell the audience that such a great event can change a person, but it is important for that person to keep their beliefs. Tolkien has created Bilbo as someone that can be related to. Tolkien clearly describes Bilbo’s Baggins-side, a well-respected hobbit family, and his Took-side, the out-there and adventurous family that “[wishes] to go and see the great mountains… and wear a sword instead of a walking stick.” It is easy to relate to someone like this by enjoying the comfort of everyday life, but also wishing something fun, exciting, and new would happen. This helps Tolkien introduce Bilbo as the protagonist and help the readers be more empathetic towards him. Because Bilbo’s Took-side led him go on this...

The Hobbit Is A Classic Essay

...The Hobbit is a novel by J.R.R. Tolkien illustrating the adventure of Bilbo Baggins on his quest to help his dwarf friends. Through the journey, Bilbo discovers the true potential of his loyalty, bravery, and cleverness. I believe The Hobbit should remain a classic in our modern world. This is due to its expression of life and morals, the work’s renowned recognition after over 75 years, its appeal to the over 100 million copies sold, and its connections to the modern literature that the work has influenced. I feel that the despite the change of time, The Hobbit has withstanded and exceeded expectations securing itself the right and justification to be a classic. The meaning of good over evil, and right over wrong, are concepts that author...

Deep down in the bottom of the lonely mountain Bilbo is trapped with the creature Gollum. How Does Bilbo Change In The Hobbit

...your friend's life, but could also kill you? Bilbo Baggins joins Thorin Oakensheild and his company, alongside Gandalf, to go on a quest to reclaim the dwarves home and kill Smaug the dragon. Bilbos life is completely changed the day 12 dwarves and a wizard come for tea. Bilbo goes against his people's way of life to go on an adventure. He finds his strength to battle against giant spiders to save his friends. Bilbo goes against his people's way of life to venture off with a bunch of dwarves. Hobbits normally live in the Shire their entire life and go about their daily business, but Bilbo changes that for the better. "To the end of his days Bilbo could never remember how he found himself outside, without a hat, walking stick or any money, or anything that he usually took when he went out; leaving his second breakfast half finished and quite unwashed-up, pushing his keys into Gandalf's hands, and running as fast as his furry feet could carry him down the lane, past the great Mill, across the Water, and then on for a whole mile or more" (30 Tolkien). This is significant, because it shows that Bilbo leaves his home and life behind, racing out of the Shire to catch up with the company. Bilbo goes against his people's nature and way of life to go on an adventure....

...in a world called Middle Earth The Setting The time periods of JRR Tolkien are not like our time periods. It’s a completely different world than ours. The Hobbit takes place in Middle Earth during the Third Age (years 2941 – 2942) about 55 years before the start of the Lord of the Rings story. This time period is Protagonist and antagonists In this book the protagonist is Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit. Bilbo's Transformation In The Hobbit

...where you were uncomfortable. Why, even Bilbo Baggins has had an experience like that. In chapter three of The Hobbit Bilbo and his throng must travel to the Misty Mountains. I guess the only difference between my experience and Bilbo’s is that he has chance of being attacked by trolls, dragons, goblins you know the usual stereotypical monsters that you might deal with every now and then. If a small hobbit like Bilbo ran into ay of those things he would definitely be hors de combat. My story begins when I was 9 or 10 and I had just transferred to a new school. When I first arrived to my new and intimidating school I quite frankly was very scared, but I pushed onward and thought about what might be a kind, humble, welcoming teacher. Journey Essay

... A journey is shown to change an individual and/or give a deeper understanding of their world, and can take the form of a physical, inner or imaginative journey. These journeys however can be a combination of two, inviting readers to explore deeper within the story. This is advocated with Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the rings trilogy, to which characters not only undertake a physical journey but a undergo inner struggles and changes. The characters of Huckleberry Finn (Twain) and Frodo Baggins (Jackson) will be analysed before and after their journey to which the effects of journeys will be expressed to the audience. Mark Twain’s Huck Finn through his ignorance of ‘racism’ within his society provides a motive for Huck’s transformation in his journey. Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain gives way to the protagonist Huck who during the starting phase of the Picaresque novel is shown to have a limited view on the world through his lack of education and is oblivious to the unethical views of his society. Huck’s ignorance is symbolised with his comment on the Widow’s refusal of his smoking “That is just the way with some people. They get down on a thing when they don’t know nothing about it.” This quote used for a smaller issue can be seen to highlight the Huck’s own lack of knowledge regarding “racism”, to which the novel’s key theme is revealed to the audience. Parallel to Huck Finn, Lord of the Ring’s Frodo Baggins easygoing and oblivious...

Bilbo Baggins's Loyalty In Lord Of The Rings

...Loyalty can be found everywhere and seems to fly under the radar at certain times. Even when someone isn't recognized for something they did doesn't mean they only do it when someone is watching or will be praised for it. Being loyal is the same way. Someone like Bilbo doesn't betray or steal from his friends and family while they look away. Every hero is loyal no matter what, and doesn't everyone want to be a hero? I think the most important trait in a hero is loyalty. Just his presence and will to stay even in the most dangerous situations means a lot to others. Loyalty is so important in people today that even girls look for it in the guys they date! Just loyalty alone can make a hero, and being a hero is what basically everyone dreams of.To stick by your friends, family, and in bad situations, stick with the people you could have just met that day. A hero never leaves and would never abandon anyone. Would risk his life just to be by his/her side another day, That's because in every hero there is loyalty. A thought can simply change who someone is or what they are about to do. In this case it was Bilbo Baggins, who had this exact thing happen to him. Just the thought in his tiny...
