Key terms
Ip router- a device that forwards data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks.
Ip address- a numerical label assigned to each device participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
Routing table- a data table stored in a router or a networked computer that lists the routes to particular network destinations, and in some cases, metrics (distances) associated with those routes.
Ip network- a network of computer using Internet Protocol for their communication protocol.
Dynamic host configuration protocol- a communications protocol that lets network administrators centrally manage and automate the assignment of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in an organization's network.
Ip routing- an umbrella term for the set of protocols that determine the path that data follows in order to travel across multiple networks from its source to its destination.
Ip route- A network path between any two IP addressable points in a network.
Ip subnetting- a logically visible subdivision of an IP network. The practice of dividing a network into two or more networks is called subnetting.
