Christopher Boone
Have you ever done something that nobody thought you could do? Well, Christopher Boone did, and who is Christopher Boone you might ask? Christopher Boone is a fifteen year, fictional character, in Mark Haddon’s “The Curious incident of the dog in the night time.” What makes Christopher special is that he has a form of autism called Asperger’s—that makes social interactions very difficult and uncomfortable. Despite this he is still pretty unique. Christopher has a lot of things he does not like, but had to deal with throughout this novel. One of Christopher’s more noticeable dislikes is that he hates, with a passion, to be touched. When Christopher is touched, or more likely grabbed, he screams and struggles, even when he was saved from being hit by a train. Another big dislike Christopher has is that he cannot stand to be in crowded areas, he will curl up into a ball and grown. Christopher also hates to be laughed at or made fun of. One of Christopher’s smaller dislikes is that he does not like his food to touch other food, even other food on his own plate, if this happens he will not eat any of the food. Christopher also really does not like the color …show more content…
Christopher seems unaware of things that most people would find hard, if not impossible, to ignore. When Christopher found out about how his mother had an affair with his neighbor he did not care, or rather it just did not strike him as something of important. When I think about Christopher I find him very insensitive. He is insensitive in the way that he shows up to his mother’s house unexpected, and after two years of not seeing her. Christopher’s mother loves him so she is forced to put her whole life on hold to take care of him. Christopher causes his mother to lose her job and leave her partner, then demands that they both return to his home town so he can take his “A” level math

Christopher Boone Character Analysis

...Christopher Boone is a 15 year 3-month-old male. He lives with his father and a pet rat, Toby, in Swindon, England. Christopher grew up with his mother, Judy Boone, and his father, Ed Boone, until his mother left approximately two years ago, Christopher was under the impression she had passed away due to a heart attack. Judy Boone described herself as lacking the patience and understanding necessary to raise Christopher, and discussed her inability to empathize with his disability, which led to problems between the two of them as well as problems within her marriage. Ed Boone, Christopher’s father, owns and operates his own business while also managing to be Christopher’s primary caretaker. Ed Boone sympathizes with Christopher’s disability, and does his best to understand and relate to him, despite occasionally becoming frustrated due to Christopher’s inability to understand certain things. Ed Boone is very patient with Christopher, and pays careful attention to the way Christopher thinks in...

Christopher Boone Character Analysis

...The protagonist, Christopher Boone, from the novel the curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a very intelligent boy and has a deep insight into life. Talking about cleverness, he thinks just noticing everyday activities and being able to recall them correctly isn’t clever, as for what people are assuming the opposite. Clever “was when you looked at how things were and used the evidence to work out something new” (25).I agree that being “clever”, in “modern” society, doesn’t really live up to its name anymore. Nowadays, living in the time where almost everything has or is being innovated, it’s extremely hard to invent something new and original. And that became one of the factors that changed the idea of being clever. Clever is...

Christopher Boone Character Analysis

...In 1998 England, a young boy by the name of Christopher John Francis Boone, experiences a moment that will change his life forever. Christopher witnesses a murder, but this is not your typical murder. This murder is quite graphic and involves a pitch fork and his neighbor’s beloved poodle, wellington. Doing his best Sherlock Holmes impersonation, Christopher decides to investigate this murder and write a novel on his findings (this book being that novel). Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, Christopher is quite different than Sherlock in the fact that he is believed to have a form of autism. I say fortunately because this “disorder” allows Christopher to be very good at math and logic. When Christopher arrives at the scene he is spotted by the dog’s owner and his neighbor, Mrs. Shears. When she sees him she calls the police. Christopher ends up in jail. Not because of his wrong place wrong time situation, but because of an altercation at the scene in which he hits a police officer. In Jail Christopher is told by the police and his father not to mention this incident or look further into by any means. Being the witty child that he is, Christopher cleverly thinks of ways to skew those words so...

...frightened and I lay down on the floor next to the wristwatches and I screamed and Mother had to take me home in a taxi.” (pg 201) When Christopher is confronted by his fear of crowds, he draws back and expresses his discomfort by screaming. Throughout the book, Christopher makes it obvious that he wants to be independent. This is a major turning point for him and determines his pathway to adulthood. The text states, “I think I would make a very good astronaut… You also have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny spacecraft thousands and thousands of miles away” (pg 50). This shows how Christopher wishes to be an astronaut so he can escape the pressures of his father. He is beginning to think for himself and expresses his needs to be independent in the...
