Leigh Botts is a sixth grader who has grown a special friendship with his favorite author, Mr. Henshaw. Since Leigh was in the second grade, he has wrote numerous letters to Mr. Henshaw. Though Mr. Henshaw doesn’t reply to every letter that Leigh sends him, Leigh finds comfort in writing out his feelings to someone who listens. Since the second grade, Leigh’s mother and father have divorced, leaving just him and his mother in a run down house while his truck driving father travels the country with Leigh’s beloved dog bandit.
