The second character is Clara Barton from the story “Clara Barton.” The conflict she had to overcome was man versus society. This changed who she was because it exposed her to the brutal parts of the world where even light can’t get to or escape and war and terror surrounded her. Clara Barton was an American nurse, suffragist, and humanitarian who is remembered greatly for establishing the American Red Cross. Clara Barton would serve as an American nurse although until her tragic death in 1912. Barton had done humanitarian and medical work in several foreign wars and even the American Civil War and the Spanish-American War. Barton was still helping the soldier until she was forced to resign in 1904 due to medical issues in her self. Barton was and will be forever remembered as a war hero that helped many soldiers get back up again and fight for the nation. Mrs. Barton faced many conflicts on the way, life wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows and it sure wasn’t a walk in the rose garden. “Independently organized relief for the wounded, often bringing her own supplies to the front lines.” The first conflict that Barton faced was working independently to protect and tend to the American soldiers with no help and little medical supplies. The society didn’t believe Barton could do it until she surprised everyone and built up the Red Cross enough to tend to Battalions of soldiers. Therefore maintaining these hardships in the beginning surely didn’t mean the years to come would be any easier. “But her presence on the battlefield called her methods into question and widened a rift between the National Red Cross and its local chapters.” Clara Barton tending to the soldiers at the age of 77 was seen as insane and unnessacry, but Barton fought back to have the right to tend to
