Do many people have good qualities to overcome different adversities? To overcome difficult adversities good qualities to have would be being determined, having responsibility , and to be confident. In the story The Wednesday Wars the main character, Holling Hoodhood, uses these qualities to overcome some of his biggest struggles. He uses the skills of being determined, being responsible, and being confident. The first way that Holling uses one of these qualities is when he thinks that his teacher, Mrs. Baker, hates him. While he thinks this he uses the quality of being determined. Holling shows that he is determined because everything that Mrs. Baker asks of him to do he does without complaints. This example makes him determined because no matter what she asks of him he is determined to get her to like him even if the things she asks of him are difficult and not enjoyable. Another way he shows that he is determined is because when he sees his sister walking down the road and sees a bus sliding on ice he is one- hundred percent determined to save her and not let the bus hit her. He is responsible during this adversity because he works hard to find a way to not let his class down, by trying different ways to get money for what he needed. Holling also shows that he is responsible because when the school power went out and the school was cold Holling was responsible and wore clothes that would keep him warmer.
