The more modernistic novel, The Last Song, displays a different outlook, compared to the severity of The Outsiders. There are several reasons behind these teens rebellious outburst, such as abandonment, environment, and revenge. Also, the punishments these teenagers must face are more severe in the more classical novel compared to the more current novel. Overall, today's teens display less severity, compared to the volatile actions of the teenagers in The Outsiders. ...perfect. The Outsiders is a book about the Greasers and the Socs. The greasers are poor and not have all of their basic needs met as the Socs are rich and get everything thing they want. this starts a rivalry. S.E Hinton wrote The Outsiders when she was only 16 because she was a teenager it provides an accurate portrayal of what being a teenager was like in the 1960s. The book was based in the 1960s and took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In this book there is a lot to argue if the greasers should consider themselves heroes or villains. The greasers are heroes because they stand up for what they believe in, they risk their lives for others, each and every one of them has had to overcome hard challenges, and they help each other become stronger. The first characteristic that make one or more of the Greasers heroes is that they stand up for what they believe in the fourth chapter ponyboy says to the Socs. “You know what a Soc is? White trash with mustangs and Madras.”(page 55) this is an insult to the Socs because the Socs had been cussing out Ponyboy and Johnny for picking up their girls, and they were not ok with that. Ponyboy had gotten fed up that the Socs and...

...In The Outsiders, a book about the rivalry between two social classes (the socs and the greasers), written by S.E. Hinton, shows a lot of characteristic traits because it is in first person point of view. This allows for more of the characters thoughts and feelings to be felt. Ponyboy is affectionate towards his brothers. In the beginning of the book, Ponyboy shows that he does not care for his older brother, Darry, that much by telling Cherry- a rich west side girl who is a spy for the greasers- that Darry would like to put him in another home. At another point in the story Ponyboy shows his affection for his two friends Johnny and Dally when they each die by saying “Please not him, not him and Johnny both”. Another character trait that...

...¨ Johnny Cade was last and least. If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in the crowd of strangers, you'll have Johnny¨ (pg 11 S.E Hinton). The outsiders take place in Tulsa,OK in the mid 1060´s. There are two groups of teenagers, who are the greasers who are the lower class and the socs who are the upper class that constantly battle for turf, tittle, and life. All created by S.E Hinton who is the author . The character Johnny Cade is Suicidal, Quiet, and Loveable and I am about to tell you how he's all of these three things. First of all, Johnny was very Quiet around people. Even Ponyboy Curtis said ¨ I have quite a rep for being Quiet, almost as Quiet as Johnny¨ (pg 34 S.E Hinton). This shows that Johnny was Quiet. Heres another example that Johnny was Quiet. ¨… I knew Johnny wouldn't open his mouth unless he was forced to¨ (pg 13 S.E Hinton). This also shows that Jonny was Quiet. Johnny was quiet because Johnny had a hard home life so he learned to never talk unless talked to, but not only did he have a hard home life he was in the gang with the greasers so he also had a time and a place to be able to feel loved by the gang when he never had that at home....

If you were to meet this character for the first time most likely some ideas about him would come to your head, but some of those ideas could be a stereotype. A stereotype is a belief about a group of people based on a common characteristic but is not necessarily true. ...The novel, The Outsiders by SE.Hinton is not the same as the movie. The characters are different in the book and the movie. When turning a book into a movie, many components need to be taken into consideration. Incorporating each and every detail exactly would challenge the directors, greatly. The Outsiders movie and book have no exceptions. People who worked on the movie did a great job portraying the book. However, the movie lacked some of the pivotal points coming from the book. Dally has blond hair in the book and in the movie his hair is black. Two- Bit in the book is 6 feet and in the movie he looks smaller than he was in the book. Soda claims he owns a horse named Mickey Mouse but in the movie he doesn’t even have a horse. Darry slaps...

...The Outsiders shows that teens join social groups to help create their identities. In joining these cliques, the adolescents take on both the positive and negative characteristics of them. Looking at life as an outsider and feeling as though one is being treated as an outsider is a matter of perspective or point of view. Adolescence is a time when teenagers may consider themselves to be adults, but in reality teens are still under the control of others. Parents, teachers, and other authority figures are always telling them how to live their lives. This loss of control inevitably leads to the feeling that life isn't fair. For example, Ponyboy knows that he is not safe walking the streets in his own neighborhood. He could be attacked solely...

...In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, conformity plays a major role. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, there are two rival gangs, the greasers and the Socs. The greasers are considered hoods and delinquents, while the Socs are considered nice, responsible children, even though they often are just as bad as the greasers. Ponyboy Curtis, a greaser, is not like everyone else, while the other greasers beat up strangers and rob gas stations, Ponyboy likes to read books, watch movies, and look at sunsets. Through the actions of the greasers, Hinton shows that a teenager will tend to hide his differences ad will do what is expected of him, rather than what he wants, proving that conformity can be beneficial. Darry, Ponyboy’s older brother, is different from the rest of the greasers. While in school, Darry was a football star, a great student, and a well-behaved child. When his parents die, leaving him in charge of his brothers, he has to leave everything behind to become a...

...In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, a character named Johnny is a very important friend to his gang. Johnny is a great character to choose because he plays a large role in the lives of the people around him. Johnny is an uncommon person to find. He has characteristics that are hard to discover in someone, especially a guy. Readers will identify this because his personality traits are unique and is easily likeable. This book is well written. In a way it is relatable because everyone has their friends that they hang out with, like the gang. They stick together and stand up for each other but there is always someone who seems to not like everyone but still may need them in their group. Maybe only for rides to hockey practice or to help fight in a rumble like in the book. They seem to like each other in the end though, they might not admit it to anyone, or even themselves but at the end of the day they like and need each other. At the start of the novel, Johnny is scared at so many things. He is one of those boys who “jumped at their own shadows.” (Hinton, 179) The Socs ganged up on him and beat him up. “Soda reached him first. Johnny was lying face down on the ground. Soda turned him over gently, and I nearly got sick. Someone had beaten him badly. We were used to seeing Johnny banged up- his father clobbered him around a lot, and although it made us madder than heck, we couldn't do anything about it. But those beatings had been nothing like this. Johnny's face was cut up and bruised...

In those discussions, we provide help to the youth, but we also perform research so that we can slowly diminish gang activity. Our mission is to bring communities together to rise against the destruction that gangs have cause and turning the negativity that these groups and individuals have caused into positive opportunity for bettering the community. Some of you may think you know what a nonprofit organization is but it is hard to say exactly what they do and how they do it. Nonprofits “vary enormously in scope and scale, ranging from informal grassroots organizations with no assets and no employees to multi-billion-dollar foundations, universities, religious bodies, and health care complexes with thousands of employees or members” (Renz, 3). Most of these organizations provide charitable, educational, and religious services but the law in the United States licenses them to run any kind of good or service on a non-profit basis. These nonprofit organizations ranges from large hospitals and universities that fund their school through tuition and fees but they also can be small organizations...

...The Patriot Act: A Constitutional Analysis Andrew Mills University of Memphis Abstract “The USA Patriot Act, enacted seven weeks after the September 11 attacks, granted the federal government sweeping new powers to expand surveillance, curtail financing, and deport aliens in connection with terrorist activity” (Stanford, 2003). This quote embodies the reasons for the heated controversy surrounding the Patriot Act. Whether one discusses the brief period of time leading up to the signing of the Patriot Act or the numerous provisions that resulted from the passing of this bill, individuals will likely have clashing viewpoints. The vast majority of the controversies surrounding the act involves whether or not it falls in line with the U.S. Constitution. Opponents of the act argue that it should have never passed through Congress due to its unconstitutionality. Those who support the Patriot Act often use its success in fighting terrorist threats as a reason to maintain it. After analyzing the bill and its provisions, its successes were made apparent, as well as its unconstitutionality. The Patriot Act: A Constitutional Analysis The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, commonly known as the USA Patriot Act (USAPA), was signed into law during one of the most distressing periods in American history. Its hasty introduction spawned controversy across a variety of political spectrums. Concerns regarding...

...CHAPTER 3 Auditors’ Ethical and Legal Responsibilities SOLUTIONS FOR REVIEW CHECKPOINTS 3.1 This arises from the three party accountability discussed in chapter 1. The auditor is hired because users expect there may be such a conflict. If users completely trusted management there would be no need to have an auditor. This is the only way to detect fraudulent or misleading reporting. The logic is to reduce this potential to an acceptable level of risk. If the auditor assumed this risk was zero to start with the auditor would not need to provide evidence that the possibility is low, and that contradicts the reason users demand an audit. 3-2 No, the auditor cannot detect deception without being skeptical. A non-skeptical auditor on finding evidence of fraud may not treat it with the significance it deserves. The rule that suspicious transactions or evidence of management deceit should automatically be considered material, even when the absolute amounts involved may be very small or insignificant, is an example of skeptical logic in action. Since three party accountability implies some degree of mistrust of management by users, the auditor must incorporate skepticism in his or her reasoning process when management makes assertions about the financial statements it has prepared. 3-3 A professional accountant must be prepared to be agent, spectator, advisor, instructor, judge, critic. 3-4 Apparently, in ethical philosophy, the word "conscience" is used...

...The year is 1959, a pivotal moment in American cultural history, when rock and roll was giving birth to the Sexual Revolution and everything in America culture was about to be turned upside down. Record companies were releasing more than a hundred singles every week and the country was about to explode. Grease, generally considered a trivial little musical about The Fabulous Fifties, is really the story of America’s tumultuous crossing over from the 50s to the 60s, throwing over repression and tradition for freedom and adventure (and a generous helping of cultural chaos), a time when the styles and culture of the disengaged and disenfranchised became overpowering symbols of teenage power and autonomy. Originally a rowdy, dangerous, over-sexed, and insightful piece of alternative theatre, Grease was inspired by the rule-busting success of Hair and shows like it, rejecting the trappings of other Broadway musicals for a more authentic, more visceral, more radical theatre experience that revealed great cultural truths about America. An experience largely forgotten by most productions of the show today. Like Hair before it and The Rocky Horror Show which would come a year later, Grease is a show about repression versus freedom in American sexuality, about the clumsy, tentative, but clearly emerging sexual freedom of the late 1950s, seen through the lens of the middle of the Sexual Revolution in the 1970s. It’s about the near carnal passion 1950s teenagers felt for their rock...
