Feudalism, also referred to as the Feudal System, was a political and economic system that emerged in Europe during the 900s as a result of the breaking down of the Carolingian Empire; taking this into account, it can perhaps be said that the actions of three of Charlemagne’s own grandsons indirectly make them the founding fathers of the system; the downfall of the Carolingian empire, after all, could only rest in the hands of the people responsible for weakening it by threefold.
