1) The tragic events that occurred in Charleston, South Carolina happened to be one of the most tragic and racially motivated crimes that have occurred in recent American history according to the New York Times. On June 17, 2015, Dylann Roof massacred nine people at the Emanuel African Methodist Church during a bible study; he was armed with a pistol and later arrested on June 18, 2015 with charges being pressed of nine murders (New York Times). The events that occurred in Charleston, South Carolina would be in particular interest to sociologists because the events that happened impacted the entire Charleston community and the nation of America. Sociologists would be interested to understand how these events impacted the African American community;
