For many years there has been a tri-state debate between Florida, Georgia and Alabama. This fight has been over if Georgia should be required to send more water from the Chattahoochee River to Apalachicola Bay. Georgia should not be required to send more water to Apalachicola Bay. The world is continuously growing and with Atlanta being such a huge city, Georgia is in extreme need of the water consumption. Water shortages continue to be a problem for people, it affects one to two billion people in the world. Without enough water people will not have access to good sanitation and hygiene. Not having proper sanitation can increase the risk of disease and death. It is argued that inadequate amounts of water will also lower the risk of food production. This is Florida’s main debate. Florida wants the water to help with their production of Oysters, which is a growing business for their economy. However, I think the lives of humans and their needs come before that of ways to stimulate the economy. Florida also complains of drought like conditions, getting water from the Apalachicola Bay would not nearly give them enough water to stop the drought like conditions that are a problem to Florida. Giving them more water would only increase the chance that Georgia could go into drought like conditions. In order to send more water down the bay they will need to build barriers to start and stop the water flow when needed and it will eventually cost more than having the water will be worth to them. The water should stay with Georgia in order for them to be able to help their growing cities. The water will prevent diseases from spreading and they will not have to suffer drought like conditions because they are having to give up most of the water that the bay offers them. The flow of water should not be disrupted and it should just stay how it has always been.
