Panimula “Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan,” isang kasabihang halaw sa mahahalagang aral na iniwan ng ating pambansang bayani na si Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Sa panahon ngayon, kung saan ang lahat ay mabilis na nagbabago, tila bang unti-unting sumusunod sa agos ng panahon ang mga kabataan, partikular na ang mga estudyante. Hindi maikakailang karamihan sa mga estudyante ay nakaranas nang mandaya sa loob ng mahabang panahon ng kanilang pag-aaral, sa madaling salita ay mangopya. Dulot na rin ito marahil ng ilang mga bagay na nagnanakaw ng kanilang panahon na dapat sana ay nakalaan sa pag-aaral. Ano nga ba ang pandaraya o pangongopya? Ang pangongopya ay isang paraan ng pandaraya. Ito ay kadalasang makikita sa mga estudyante sa mga pagsusulit at maging sa mga takdang aralin. May iba’t ibang anyo ang pangongopya, ito ay ang paggamit ng kodigo, ang pagtatanong sa kaklase ng sagot sa pagsusulit, at ang pagbubukas ng libro o iba pang kagamitan na naglalaman ng sagot sa oras ng pagsusulit. Bukod sa pagsusulit, laganap rin ang pandaraya o pangongopya ng mga estudyante sa paggawa ng pamanahong papel, “plagiarism” naman ang tawag dito. Ito ay ang tuwirang pagkopya o paggaya sa nilalaman ng mga ito. Iba’t iba man ang taguri sa mga anyo at paraang inilahad, iisa lamang ang ipinahihiwatig ng mga ito, ang unti-unting pagkawala ng katapatan ng mga estudyante na kung tutuusin ay ito ang nararapat na una nilang natututunan. Iba’t iba ang naidudulot na epekto ng pandaraya o pangongopya sa mga estudyante tulad ng pagiging tamad sa pag-aaral, pagkasanay nila sa gawing ito na maaaring madala nila hanggang sa magkaroon na sila ng trabaho, at higit sa lahat, iisipin ng mga estudyante na normal lang na gawin ang bagay na ito. Madalas na ginagawa ang pangongopya sa oras ng pagsusulit at sa mga takdang aralin. Ang layunin na pagkakaroon ng mataas na marka at hindi pagbagsak marahil ang mga dahilan kung bakit ginagawa ito ng mga estudyante. Nagagawa nila ito upang maipakita sa kanilang mga magulang na nag-aaral sila sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaroon ng matataas na marka. Para sa mga mananaliksik, naoobserbahan nilang habang tumatagal na ginagawa ng mga estudyante ang bagay na ito ay lalo lamang silang nahahasa sa maling gawing ito, at mas lumalakas ang kanilang mga loob na gawin ito nang paulit-ulit nang walang takot. Pangalawa ay sa mga guro, upang malaman o mas higit nilang maintindihan ang mga iba’t ibang dahilan ng mga mag-aaral kung bakit nagagawa ng mga ito ang mandaya sa oras man ng pagsusulit o sa paggawa ng mga takdang aralin. Ikatlo ay para sa mga magulang, kung saan mapagtatanto nila ang mga maaaring gawin upang masupil ang maling gawain ng kanilang mga anak. Ikaapat ay para sa mga susunod na mananaliksik na magsasagawa rin ng ganitong uri ng pananaliksik, maaari itong magsilbing gabay sa kanila. Ang dahilan ng pag-aaral sa talamak na pangongopya o pandaraya ng mga estudyante ay upang makahanap ng sagot kung paano ba ito matutuldukan at maturuan ang mga mag-aaral na maging tapat hindi lamang sa kanilang guro kung hindi sa kani-kanila na ring mga sarili. Isa pang dahilan ng mga mananaliksik sa pag-aaaral ng bagay na ito ay upang malaman ang rason kung bakit ginagawa ito ng mga estudyante at nang sa gayon ay mabigyang lunas ang bagay na ito na tila bang epidemyang mabilis na kumakalat. Layunin ng Pag-aaral Ang pag-aaral na ito na may pamagat na “Isyu ng Pandaraya/Pangongopya ng mga Estudyante” ay may layuning alamin ang karaniwang paraan/anyo ng pandaraya/pangongopya na kadalasang ginagamit ng mga mag-aaral; tukuyin ang karaniwang dahilan ng pandaraya ng mga mag-aaral; at ilahad ang posibleng paraan upang maiwasan ang pandaraya.

Binigyang diin niya na ang pandaraya o ang pangongopya, anumang dahilan at pamamaraan, ay isang gawaing nagpapahina at nagpapababa sa moral at integridad ng isang tao. Batay naman kay Hayden (2008), hindi maitatanggi na laganap ang pandaraya at pangongopya sa mga estudyante ng ika-dalawampu’t isang siglo. Mas madali ng mangopya ngayong panahon dahil wala ng konsensya ang mga mag-aaral ukol dito. Iniisip nilang maliit na kasalanan lamang ito at hindi dapat pagkaabalahan. Sa una ay nakakatakot itong gawin, ngunit kapag nasanay na ay tila wala na lamang. Kung hindi sila mahuhuli, hindi sila malalagot at patuloy nila ito gagawin. Hindi nila napagtatanto na may malaki itong epekto sa buhay nila sa hinaharap. Ang hindi nila nakikita ay unti-unti silang hindi tinatablan ng pagsisisi, konsensya at kulpabilidad. Habang mas madalas nilang ginagawa itong pangongopya ay mas lalo silang nasasanay. Magsisimula ito sa pangongopya ng mga takdang aralin. ...Cheating has always been looked down upon in society, but it still thrives in the classrooms of schools and universities. It doesn't seem to matter whether it is right or wrong, just as long as it gets you that A you were looking for. Cheating has grown over the past few years and the question is why? Who's to blame? I know cheating occurs in Bacon Academy. I'll even be so honest to admit that I have participated in cheating once or twice in my high school career. Even so, I know it's not okay; and there are serious punishments if you are caught: there will be a zero on the assignment, and a suspension if you plagiarize. Ouch, cheating definitely doesn't sound worth the risk. So why do we do it? Cheating is done for multiple reasons. Sometimes it's done just to help out a friend. Your neighbor asks about a question during a test and you reply with the answer just to be courteous, nothing more than that. There's no deeper reason, other than maybe one day your neighbor will be able to return the favor. Another form of cheating is the "!%#&, I forgot to study for this test, but the smartest person in the room is sitting right next to me" reason. Some people figure there's no harm because they're going to do poorly anyway. But some people cheat because they're lazy or just don't care. All of these reasons don't make it okay to cheat, and its recurrence in school is an issue. Cheating and plagiarism became scary in high school but became our worst nightmare in college if one choice to partake in it and got caught. I was always proud of my work, especially when you spend hours and hours working on something and when you are finally finished you look back and it was worth that amount of time you spent on it. Cheating is not worth it; you’re not only going against the rules of academic misconduct you are cheating yourself. You’re not allowing yourself to actually learn something you are taking the easy way out and misleading not only yourself but those around you. Cheating goes into a lot of aspect in life, academics, love, sports, etc. The most interesting thing is it always comes down to one tiny aspect of yourself, your scared of letting someone down, you want to win so bad, your lazy and don’t want to try, but it all comes down to the amount you put into that activity. If you want to be good in school you need to put a lot into it to get a lot out of it, school does not come cheap. The same goes for love and relationships. Now of course there is no perfect human being, we all make mistakes, this is the beauty of cheating comes into play.
