...Negotiations Frasier case A. Who are the parties in the Frasier negotiation and what are their interests? (Viacom, CBS, Paramount, Kelsey) – (NBC, NBC West Coast ((Graboff)), ABC) The parties involved in the Frasier negotiations consist of NBC, Paramount, and actor Kelsey Grammar. Paramount and Kelsey had personal interest to extend the show 3 years. Kelsey Grammar wanted to rank in history as being an actor with having the record for the longest-running primetime television character in TV. Without Kelsey Grammar (Frasier), Paramount, and NBC would not have a TV series. NBC did not view the show Frasier as having another 3 years of life and did not want to invest in another 3 years. Additionally, NBC deemed Paramount’s price per episode to high and wanted to minimize what they saw as a loss of revenue. B. What is Paramount’s BATNA? What is your estimate of their reservation price? Paramount was banking on the fact that Frasier was the flagpole show of NBC and its success in the time slot. If they quit NBC, both Paramount and NBC would suffer while Paramount would have suffered the most. Paramount best alternative would have been to shop the show around to other networks in the case that the negotiations with NBC broke down. Paramount however was limited in networks to promote the show to due to the shows high overhead cost and industry consolidation. Due to these circumstances I would estimate Paramount’s reservation price around 5.25 million as Paramount...

If they switch networks the show would lose viewership, which will affect the studio as well as the network to which they move. So whatever NBC was offering them was the best deal they can get. And Grab off knew the CBS network pretty well and was pretty sure they wouldn’t buy “Frasier” at such a high cost. Moreover this might kick off a price war that will ruin the networks industry and people might reconsider getting shows from paramount for their bad dealing. Paramount’s BATNA: It didn’t have one. But they were relying heavily on the fact that “Frasier” was the flagpole show of NBC. But if they quit NBC, both the...

...Rude- We choose rude to add to our mix tape because it really represented how Lysander feels when he finds out that Hermia’s father will not approve of their love. “Scornful Lysander, true, he hath my love, and what is mine my love shall render him. And she is mine, and all my rights of her I do estate unto Demetrius.” You’re so vain- this song is suitable for the mix tape because it describes how Bottom acts throughout the play. Bottom acts very vain and full of himself. “That will ask some tears in the true performing of it. If I do it, let the audience look to their eyes. I will move storms; I will condole in some measure.” How could an angel break my heart? - We added this to our CD because it shows how Helena loves Demetrius but he does not love her back, he loves Hermia. “You draw me, you hard-hearted adamant, but yet you draw not iron, for my heart is true as steel. Leave you your power to draw, and I shall have no power to follow you.” To which Demetrius replies “Do I entice you? Do I speak you fair? Or rather do I not in plainest truth, tell you I do not, nor I cannot love you?” Blinded by the light- This song best describes when the four lovers are lost in the woods and are blinded from their true feelings for each other by the potion, in the middle of the night Don’t forget- This song connects with Lysander forgetting his love for Hermia and falling in love this Helena You belong with me- We decided to add this song because it shows Helena’s feelings Demetrius...

...HBS Case Study- “Frasier” Tamika Hernandez Khadijah Holley Course Number: 0204 – 689-102 Negotiation for the Business Professional The Art of Persuasion & Negotiations November 18, 2014 Professor: Neil Halloran Frasier Case Study 1) Who are the parties to the “Frasier” negotiation, and what are their interests? How can the various parties influence the negotiation process and its outcome? The parties involved in the Frasier negotiations are; Paramount Television Group, National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and the actor Kelsey Grammer (Owner) . Marc Graboff (ExecutiveVice President) led the NBC negotiation team which included Scott Sassa (President of NBC West Coast) and Jeff Zucker (President of NBC entertainment). Kerry McCluggage (Paramount’s Chairman) led the negotiation team for Paramount and was sometimes joined by Gary Hart, president of Paramount. 2) What are NBC’s BATNAs? What are Paramount’s BATNAs? Of these BATNAs, which is the best option for each entity? NBC had two BATNA’s: keep Frasier regardless of the increased cost (take a financial hit) in hopes to keep it as a “tent pole” to draw in its viewers to the new shows line-ups after Frasier, or buy a comparable comedy show from another network (such as Dharma and Greg) that will bring in the same audience group 18 to 49. The only downfall was that could cause a bidding war that could increase programming expenses. Paramount’s BATNA’s were to either sell the sitcom to CBS (sister...

...Cheer Your Heart Out Completion was in 2 weeks and it was crunch time. Our coach made us have practice almost every night. It was hard trying to juggle school and cheerleading, but I found a way to do it. Cheerleading is something I am very passionate about, and something I do all the time. If I am not cheering, I am in the gym working on my skills or making sure I stay fit for cheerleading. A lot of people say cheerleading is not a sport, but you know what I tell them, meet me on the mat and I will show you what’s up. Cheerleading is a very tough sport. We lift people the same weight as us, or sometimes the person can weigh more than you do. We don’t have shoulder pads and things to protect us like football players. So if you fall, someone falls on you, or if anything goes wrong you can get seriously injured. Can you see how serious it is yet? It was lunch time at school, and some of my teammates and I, would always meet in the court yard to practice the routine. All eyes would be on us and we would practice like we were on the competition floor. We sometimes even went one by one so we can see if anyone was making mistakes. Kiara was known for always messing up routines, and it was time for one by one. I went first, because I was confident that I knew my stuff. After I got done performing all the girls would be like “that was the bomb”, or “amazing!” Kiara of course would always try to find a way to get out of doing it by herself. “Kiara, it’s your turn”, I said. “Guys do...

...Danny Mrs. Cancilla English 10CP 28 February 2013 The Art of Cheer According to the definition from dictionary.com, inspiration is "the stimulation of the mind or emotions to a of high level feeling activity." To me, cheerleading equals inspiration! During my freshman year, I went to one of our high school rallies. I watch the cheerleaders, admired how well they danced and got the crowd involved. I figured with a little practice and a lot of dedication, I could be an inspirational leader, or cheerleader! I enrolled in cheerleading classes with Gym Stars, in order to prepare myself for trying out to be a high school cheerleader. There are two types of cheerleading. The first type is "game" or "on the field" cheering. The second type is "club," "competitive," or "all-star (Murray, Sardo, Keeton15)." Cheerleading is an important sport because of the history, the certain requirements, and the vital information to minimize risk and serious injury. The history of cheerleading dates back to 1870. The first recorded cheer was developed at Princeton University. The group was all male, and performed at the first intercollegiate football game with Rutgers( Murray, Sardo, Keeton 18). The roaring 20's saw mostly all men donning school colors and using megaphones to lead cheers. In 1950, the majority of cheerleaders were females. The men went away, and the women cheered at halftime shows, and different activities at colleges and universities throughout the world (Murray, Sardo...

...A “Cheers” Church Denice Colson Cheers was a wildly successful sitcom set in a bar in Boston. The story line followed the lives of the staff and regular customers in the bar. The theme song was also very popular. “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came. You want to be where people see, our troubles are all the same. You want to go where everybody knows your name.” The writers created not only a catchy tune, but words that have actual meaning. There are several basic human needs being addressed in this song. The need to belong, the need to have value in other peoples eyes, the need to know and be known, and the need to be accepted just like you are. Of course, the script writers would have people believe that these needs can be met in a bar; that is unlikely, for a variety of reasons. However, the fact that these needs must be met while being a part of a group is true. This activity of grouping to mutually meet needs creates what is called community—common unity. Community happens when we create an atmosphere where intimacy can develop and people can grow and thrive. That’s what our families are supposed to be like. That’s what our churches are supposed to be like. That’s what our Life Group classes are supposed to be like. Why? Because God created us, male and female, in His image and His image is one of unity-community. God presents Himself as a triune being. He is Father, Son and Spirit. He is One God. When He...

...our uniforms made us look like glittery silver aliens from the tackiest planet in the solar system. It was terrible! My team and I were ridiculed the full two weeks we had to wear those garbage bags. The center of attention was what was on our backs, instead of our routines. The uniform, in my opinion, is just as important as the talent and skill any cheerleader (or team) possesses. In high school, I was an all American cheerleader. I must admit, I initially made the decision to try out for the cheer team solely for the uniform. The uniforms at the time were vintage inspired and they were beautiful. It was a red and blue tightly fit knit sweater with matching skirt. Very simple, yet very pretty, and I was determined to wear one! In truth, I had no cheer experience what so ever, but I was already an athlete and thought, “how hard can this honestly be?” How incredibly naïve I was! If I was to make the team and earn my uniform I had to learn how to jump, split, tumble, dance and cheer all within a weeks’ time. I poured my heart into it, let the adrenaline take over, and prayed that I learned...

In dance you have different motions there is one major difference which is cheerleaders cheer. The number one thing that cheerleaders and dancers have in common is there attitudes. Both dance and cheerleading require positive attitude. Having a positive attitude lets them deal with criticism and allows them to take the advice and improve their mistakes. Also having and showing a positive attitude goes a long way in improving their performances. It allows them to keep their energy up and shows that they are very serious in what they do because if you make one false move, or one wrong step, the consequence could be serious. ...Two Cheers for Materialism In this article, James Twitchell discusses the topic that approximately characterizes America as a whole today: Materialism. Twitchell discusses how humans are described by things as well as their success being defined by things. As James Twitchell tells us in his article, humans love things. Why is this so? I believe that human beings began loving things after The Great Depression. People had rare things in their lives and basically everyone was poor. Once the Great Depression was over, the people during that time that lived through it still felt the need to swarms items such as food and clothing and anything else they could get their hands on in case something like the depression were to ever happen again. So, in one way, materialism is the result of fear. Materialism is also what now describes people. We analyze ourselves through things and if we want to change, we change the type of things we buy and own. It has always been a known fact that the rich people have more things than the middle or lower class and they therefore seem to be happier. But in more recent years, the middle class has seemed to catch up to the rich by consuming more goods and buying things they want. Materialism has allowed the middle class to claim a viewpoint next to the wealthier. However, while the middle class is able to keep up with the rich, materialism also makes it easier and more acceptable for people of any class to place themselves in some sort of group...

I’d say we’re looking at a 20 to 30% cut in total cost of ownership over our last environment. The cloud costs money – but it delivers better. You reduce variable costs, and you don’t have hardware to depreciate. A cloud environment rolls up your entire TCO into a single monthly figure - which makes for simplicity.” Bellville Rodair International (BRI™) “I had heard a lot of rumblings about provides freight forwarding and logistics the benefits of the cloud, so I needed to services. ...Two Cheers for Consumerism In the article called 2 cheers for consumerism, the writer Twitchell explains how people, the consumers, are consuming more and more items everyday. According to the author of the article “The really interesting question may be not why we are so materialistic, but why we are unwilling to acknowledge and explore what seems the central characteristics of life.”. Many people spend most of their time and energy consuming or producing items all the time and most of that happened in the 20th century, like for example in the 1960’s. Some people consider this as Commercialism, and others as consumerism, but either way, commercialism or consumerism will stay up high for many people that like to buy stuff. The U.S. is a nation of consumers. Consumerism affects people in many ways, like for example age and many other things. The main idea for consumerism is that many people can’t resist having a specific item, most of those items are objects that they don’t really need. According to the author “ it is simply impossible to consume objects without consuming meaning.”. This means that consumerism is all around us, currents of desire are flowing around us all the time, like if it were white smoke. Some people say that consumerism It’s pretty much a waste because it’s now a big concern. America is considered a nation of consumers, one that can never have enough things (Twitchell). Twitchell refers to American material culture as a mallcondo...

...When I moved to Germany my cheer coach told me about a German competitive cheer team, so I decided to try it. I knew the coach already so I was all set. After only doing cheer for a semester freshmen year I was quite nervous. I made friends with some of the girls on the team, and a few girls from school also joined. Our coach was tough, and she showed us new and challenging stunts for us to try almost every practice. Using some of the stunts we learned we put together a routine. It was a difficult routine that took a while to perfect. As competition grew closer tempers got short, because of the high amounts of work required. One member of my stunt group ended up getting frustrated since I couldn’t perfect two stunts. This made practice more stressful and less fun, everyone was worn out and ready for the competition to come. Before the actual competition, we had a Spirit challenge, where we showed the routine to our parents and friends. It was super exciting. We were able to hit all of our stunts and our routine was perfect. After spirit challenge, everyone was sure that we would win the competition, so as competition came around we were ready. We practiced, and practiced, only occasionally falling. The day of competition we went through our stunts, then got out on the mat. It was...
