1. Explain the connection between your health and what you breathe. -Clean unpolluted air keeps us alive and healthy, that is why it’s important for us to keep our environment clean

Describe air in terms of its major components, their relative amounts, and the local and regional variations in the composition of air. -Major components of air are: nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. The composition of air by volume is about 78% nitrogen, 21%oxygen, and 1% other gases. ******

3. List the major air pollutants and describe the health effects of each. -Four major air pollutants and their health effects: -Carbon monoxide- known as the “silent killer” because it has no color, taste, or smell. Once you inhale it passes into your blood stream and interferes with the ability of your hemoglobin to carry oxygen. At first you may feel dizzy, nauseous, or your head may hurt. Continued exposure can lead to severe illness, even death -Ozone- sharp odor, may be detected around a photocopier, electric motor, or welding equip. Can reduce lung function. Symptoms include chest pain, coughing, sneezing and lung congestion. -Sulfur dioxide- has a sharp unpleasant odor and dissolves in the moist tissue of your lungs to form an acid. Those with lung disease such as emphysema or asthma are most susceptible to sulfur dioxide poisoning. -Nitrogen dioxide- brown color and also damages lung tissue. Like sulfur dioxide, it can combine with fog, mist, snow, or rain to produce acid rain. -Particulate matter (PM)- when inhaled goes deep into the lungs and cause irritation. Pass from lungs into bloodstream and can cause heart disease or aggravate an existing condition.

Many neighborhoods are also the home of old trees that serve as historic landmarks. Measurements taken at the site; shown that Maple/Boxelder trees in the site was identified as a more common species in the area and illustrated in good health with minor problems. For the other selected trees, no significant difference in circumference was found between all other trees because of the weather.
