Does Chemotherapy Help or Harm Cancer Patients?
This paper will be showing you, the reader, the truth about chemotherapy. It isn't a magic medicine that helps kill cancer like pharmaceutical companies and oncologists want you to think.
Chemotherapy is a cancer drug that, although it seems to be the right answer, usually ends up doing more harm than help.
Chemotherapy is well known for killing cancer cells, but what most people do not think about is that it also kills your healthy cells. This is what causes the hair to fall out, as the chemotherapy kills hair cells. Chemotherapy also kills your white blood cells, the cells that help your body fight infection, making you very susceptible to illnesses while …show more content…
Patients who refused treatment, also were found to live longer. Of course not every cases is the same, but the fact do not lie.
Quality over quantity. “The late Dr. Hardin B. Jones, Professor of Medical Physics and
Physiology at Berkeley, California, made a study lasting 25 years of the life span of cancer patients, and had concluded that untreated patients do not die sooner than patients receiving orthodox treatment (surgery, radiation and chemotherapy), and in many cases they live longer.”
(Dr. Hardin B. Jones, 1969).
Chemotherapy is a great way to scam insurance companies and patients. It cost A LOT of money, it is needed repetitively, and it can lead to more cancer later in life. “Treating cancer is
BIG business in America -- in fact, it's a $200 billion a year business. Yet 98 percent of conventional cancer treatments not only FAIL miserably, but are also almost guaranteed to make cancer patients sicker.” (cureyourowncancer.org). From my own personal experience, I know this is true. The chemotherapy that was used to cure my mother's Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma …show more content…
It is all just a domino effect. Cancer gets treated with chemotherapy, chemotherapy kills the cancer, then chemotherapy causes more cancer and the cycle just repeats itself. There is no winning with cancer. It is a monster who does not discriminate against age, race, or gender.
As I stated before, chemotherapy is a cancer drug that, although it seems to be the right answer, usually ends up doing more harm than help. It has ugly side effects, ones that are sometimes worse than the cancer itself.

Chemotherapy Research Paper

...It is believed that the use of garlic as a possible chemotherapy treatment will be very effective. Chemotherapy plays the role of killing cells that are in the process of splitting into 2 new cells. Tissues are made of tons of individual cells. Once we are completely developed, most of our body cells don't divide, and multiply as fast/rapid as they used to at a younger age. When cells divide they split into 2 equivalent cells. So, if there was 1 cell, there are now 2, etc. With cancer, the cells keep on dividing at an abnormal speed until there is a mass of cells. This mass of cells becomes a tumour, because cancer cells divide much more quick than most cells, they are more probable to be killed by chemotherapy. Some chemotherapy treatments...

Research Article Critique

...RESEARCH ARTICLE CRITIQUE Biomedical Science Brief summary The article selected for this paper is “A study into the potential role of Survivin localisation in resistance to drug-induced apoptosis” written by Helen Angell. The paper is about the role of an anti-apoptotic factor from the class of caspases. The subcellular localisation of surviving can play important role in the therapy of breast cancer. Cancer is an abnormal process in which the cellular apoptosis is inhibited. Survivin is a protein known to regulate cell division and apoptosis. Chemotherapy in cancer patients in targeted to induce apoptosis. Surviving has been known to be localised in the cytoplasm and nucleus of the cells. The main therapeutic role of Survivin comes from the fact that the sensitivity of the breast cancer cells to chemotherapy is increased in its presence within the nucleus. Description of the methods and techniques used Various methods have been used by the author. All lab-based methods are used for the determination of localisation and presence of the protein in the cell. • The fourth method used is tissue culture, for the purpose of over expression the protein in the selected cells. • Second method subcellular fractionation was done for the separation of the cellular components. • Immunoblotting was chosen...

Infertility has been associated with increased risk of developing ovarian cancer; whether infertility is a physical issue or a choice to wait to have kids, the risk is present with the fewer pregnancies total. Importance of Research

...Importance of Research When writing college papers, grants or just presentations for work research is the most important process of the writing process. This paper will discuss the three segments of the TEDTalks: Award –Winning Teenage Science in Action video. The three segments discuss carcinogens, chemotherapy and asthma. Segment 1 Lauren Hodge conducted a research study on carcinogens in grilled chicken. The hypothesis developed by Lauren was “could possibly the carcinogens be decreased due to a marinade and could it be due to the differences in pH?” ( ). This topic was important to Lauren, because while in the doctor’s office she read an article that discussed a lawsuit pertaining to California’s Proposition 65. The magazine article discussed the hidden danger of carcinogens in the food we eat. Lauren was surprised to find that more people had no idea about the dangers of carcinogens in our food. Lauren collected data for analyzation in three different stages. In the first stage Lauren marinated all of the chicken at home in five different marinades. The second stage was completed at Penn State University and she extracted the chemicals, changed the pH, and ran it through the lab equipment which in turn separated the compounds. In the third and final stage Lauren ran the samples through a high pressure liquid chromatography mass spectrometer, which separated the compounds and analyzed the chemicals, and told her exactly how much carcinogens she had in the chicken. Lauren’s...

The prevalence of MG in the United States is estimated to be about 20/100,000 people ("What is myasthenia," 2010). MG is a rare but very serious disease and many people who have been diagnosed do not recognize the symptoms. If detected early, MG can be treated successfully with, if any, very little side effects in the future. Once diagnosed with MG, that person must go through a drastic life change; Enduring rigorous treatments depending on how aggressive the disease has become, possibly undergoing a life threatening surgery, and living with myasthenia gravis for the duration of their life. “Muscle weakness caused by MG progresses as the effected muscle is used repeatedly. Since symptoms typically improve with rest, but your muscle weakness may come and go” (Staff, 2010). The first signs and symptoms of MG are ptosis and diplopia. “Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid. The lid may droop only slightly, or it may cover the pupil entirely” (What is ptosis?, N.d.). “Diplopia (double vision) is a common subjective complaint, or diplopia may...

Choriocarcinoma Not a Death Sentence

... Raymond Gentry Choriocarcinoma: Not a Death Sentence Choriocarcinoma, or also known as Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD), is a very rare and malignant type of tumor. According to Spickler and Oberleitner (2011), Choriocarcinoma develops from genetically deformed germ cells which usually produce sperm or eggs (pp.1012-1014). Research shows no exact causes for the development of Choriocarcinoma (GTD). Early research shows that Choriocarcinoma was almost always found to be a fatal disease. There are no known means of prevention for this disease. According to Spickler and Oberleitner (2011), although Choriocarcinoma has the capability to metastasize extremely fast, there is a high possibility of a complete cure or remission even if the disease has been diagnosed in later stages of development even with metastases (pp.1012-1014). My research will show that it is not a dismal death sentence for those diagnosed with it. Choriocarcinoma (GTD) is primarily found in women during their childbearing years however it has been diagnosed in men as well. This paper will concentrate on the causes, risk factors, and forms of treatment in women. Doctors have no exact explanation for the development of Choriocarcinoma (GTD), though there are many risk factors. Some of the leading causes are an ectopic pregnancy where the fetus starts development in the fallopian tube. According to Goldstein and Berkowitz (2004b) the development of...

Dealing with Cancer

...Cancer: Disability Paper Cancer. This single word consisting of six letters can change someone’s life in a heartbeat. Imagine yourself or a loved one sitting in a doctor’s office, awaiting the results to see if cancer is the diagnosis. You’re sitting in silence holding each other’s hand, watching the clock tick slowly before hearing a faint knock on the door. As the doctor walks in, his face says it all and he does not need to say a single word. It’s hard to listen to what he is saying, because all you can think about is, “my life is over,” “this can’t be happening to me,” and “I’m dying”. Those were some of the exact same thoughts my dad was thinking when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer about thirteen years ago. Fortunately for himself and our family, he is now cancer free. At that time of the diagnosis, I was young and did not understand the depth of cancer, and that’s why I decided to write this paper. Cancer doesn’t care about your age, race, or religion, but when it strikes someone you know, it hits home. In the book, “ A World Without Cancer,” Dr. Margaret Cuomo (2012) describes cancer as, “Malignant tumors often look crablike, their irregular extensions resembling crustacean claws” (p.23). What exactly is cancer? There are over 100 different types of cancers such as: breast cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, and kidney cancer, to just name a few. According to the American Cancer Society (2014),” although there are many kinds of cancer, all cancers start because...

...long life expectancy and increase exposure to substances that causes cancer. Determining the cause of cancer can be complex, even though more advanced technology have made it much better now to diagnose the disease. Studies have shown that obesity, tobacco use, environmental pollutants, certain diet increases the risk for cancer (National Cancer Institute, 2014). The symptoms of cancer can vary depending on where the cancer is formed, where it has spread and the size of the tumor. The fear of dealing with the disease causes stress and depression for the patient. Understanding the prognosis of cancer is important when planning a variety of options for treatment (National Cancer Institute, 2014). This paper will focus on the stages of cancer, side effects from treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation, how to lessen physiologic and psychological effects for patients with cancer.
