...make some leaders successful. Often different characteristics matter at different situations. So what makes a great leader? Is it the personality traits of people or characteristics of the situation that makes people better than others? Studies conducted to find out how exactly certain people excel in their positions have given birth to a number of formal leadership theories. In this paper I will discuss about three different leadership theories; behavioral theories, contingency theories, and power & influence theories. Behavioral Theories As the name suggests behavioral theories emphasis on how leaders behave. For example; some leaders get involved with their team and some dictate terms in decision making. According to Kendra Cherry “Behavioral theories of leadership are based upon the belief that great leaders are made, not born” (para 9). This particular theory mainly focuses on the actions of leaders. An assumption of this theory is that people can learn to become leaders through teaching and observation. Three types of leaders can be identified under the behavioral theory; I. Autocratic leaders II. Democratic leaders III. Laissez-faire leaders A study conducted by the Ohio State University, have found two groups of behaviors strongly correlated among the behavioral style; I. Task Oriented Leaders These leaders focus more on the organizational structure, operating procedures, and they like to keep everything under control. They are concerned...

...[SS310 | Exploring the 1960s: An Interdisciplinary Approach] Body Ritual among the Nacirema Body Ritual among the Nacirema by Horace Mitchell Miner Published in American Anthropologist, vol 58, June 1956. pp. 503-507. Most cultures exhibit a particular configuration or style. A single value or pattern of perceiving the world often leaves its stamp on several institutions in the society. Examples are "machismo" in Spanish-influenced cultures, "face" in Japanese culture, and "pollution by females" in some highland New Guinea cultures. Here Horace Miner demonstrates that "attitudes about the body" have a pervasive influence on many institutions in Nacirema society. The anthropologist has become so familiar with the diversity of ways in which different people behave in similar situations that he is not apt to be surprised by even the most exotic customs. In fact, if all of the logically possible combinations of behavior have not been found somewhere in the world, he is apt to suspect that they must be present in some yet undescribed tribe. The point has, in fact, been expressed with respect to clan organization by Murdock[1] . In this light, the magical beliefs and practices of the Nacirema present such unusual aspects that it seems desirable to describe them as an example of the extremes to which human behavior can go. Professor Linton[2] first brought the ritual of the Nacirema to the attention of anthropologists twenty years ago, but the culture of this people is still...

...There are many evolving stages that are unique to those phases, I am going to focus on middle age development and how so many influences create a person. Before we get to middle age children we first we need to discuss what starts the cycle. There are two types of influences that create a human being; one is genetic development which starts with two living cells then they transform into a breathing human being. Those cells are packed with traits and genes and are passed on from one generation of a living being to the next until that line no longer reproduces. We do know that most every physical, mental, and social-emotional trait is affected by genes. We also know that genes influence your growth and development in many ways. According to Cherry, k (N.D) In order to fully understand this, it is important to first distinguish between a child's genetic inheritance and the actual expression of those genes. A genotype refers to all of the genes that a person has inherited. The actual express of these traits is the person's phenotype. The phenotype can include physical traits, such as height and color or the eyes, as well as nonphysical traits such as shyness, a high strung temperament or a thirst for adventure. Agreeing with Cheour, M. (2013) Genetics alone, cannot determine the physical development of the child. The Minnesota Twin Studies have shown, for example, even identical twins who share the same genes can grow up to be of different height if they are raised in different environments...

...Stanza 1 Summary Lines 1-2 Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; * From the title it's clear that the speaker is talking about autumn. The speaker briefly describes the season and immediately jumps into personification, suggesting that autumn and the sun are old pals. * "Mists" often accompany chilly weather because the moisture in the air condenses into a vapor when it's cold. * "Mellow fruitfulness" sounds like something people would say at a wine tasting, doesn't it? "Mmm...this season has a mellow fruitfulness, with just a hint of cherry and chocolate." The word "mellow," meaning low-key or subdued, is a good fit for autumn, with its neutral colors and cool, yet not cold, weather. And it's also the season when many fruits and other crops are harvested, making autumn fruit-full. * Autumn is a close friend of the sun, who is "maturing" as the year goes on. "Maturing" could be a polite way of saying "getting old." The sun is no longer in its prime. * A "bosom-friend" is like that friend you told all your secrets to in junior high school. Lines 3-4 Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; * Ah, so now the sun and autumn are "conspiring," eh? Looks like we might have to separate the two of them. What are they whispering about over there? * OK, so not quite as thrilling as we thought. They are planning how to make fruit grow on the vines that curl...

...Rumination of Self Privileges/Advantages: I believe that my parents, family culture, and being a “military brat”, are advantages that have shaped me into the person I am today. My mom and dad are both very educated, open minded, and involved parents. Their personalities ties in with our family culture. Being the involved people they are; my parents always believed it was highly important to be physically and socially involved. They always made sure I attended summer camps in the summer, sports and clubs during the school year, and extracurricular activities over the weekends. This is an advantage, because it helped me to become comfortable when working with others. Not only is my family culture an advantage, but being a military family gives me an even bigger boost. Since, my family is a military family; we move around the country a lot. This caused me to easily adapt to different environments, and different people. These three advantages will contribute to my success, because it gave me my social savviness. According to The Trouble with Geniuses Part 2, parents being more involved with their children’s education and extracurricular teaches their children to be accustomed to their environment, the ability to communicate with adults making them less afraid of authority, and giving them a sense of “entitlement.” This relates to me, because my parents are involved with my life, and it caused me to be accustomed to any environment I endure. Disadvantages/Oppressions: I believe...

...Name: Zamora, Cherry Lynn A. Section: N8 PRE-FINAL PAPER RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE 1. Feeling of Absolute dependence by Schleirmacher * What I understand in Schleirmacher’s feeling of Absolute dependence is it’s our God-consciousness that arises from self-consciousness for being piety. It is our “utang na loob”, in this case it is a consciousness of the one to whom we are dependent—God. We have always this feeling of dependency that we owe our life to God. It is when we recognize the presence of God in ourselves, it also that start for us feel and practice religious experience. Like for example, whenever I achieve an accomplishment or a goal, I always make sure that I will go to church and thanked God for it. I have this feeling that I should thank Him for guiding me and helping me to achieve such success. It shows that i am self-conscious about the presence of God to me. 2. Mysterious Tremendum et Fascinans by Rudolf Otto * The Mysterious Tremendum et Fascinan by Otto is his concept of Numinous or numen or divine. It is composed of three parts, such as: Mysterious/Mysterium is the experience of wholly other, or the blank wonder. Next is the Tremendum which is the awefulness-it is the terror or unapproachability “wrath of God”, overpoweringness as the sense of one’s own nothingness in contrast to its power, the creature-feeling or the sense of dependence, and energy, the vitality and will which explain that the world is full of energy because of God. And...

...The room reeked of mildew and dust. Draco’s desk was on the right and Potter’s on the left with several others left unoccupied. When exchanging heated words, they’d meet in the middle and go at it, with Potter retreating to his desk every time. Sometimes Malfoy wish it would just go to blows, he was itching to fight Potter. Maybe it’d work off some of the tension. Malfoy had cleaned the office; the filing all put together neatly arranged by color, number of deaths, and date. There were benefits to being shoved into the basement; they had the whole floor to themselves and the dankness wasn’t completely unbearable with a warming charm in place, and the quiet was nice, (until Potter started talking) the loud business of the regular auror department had always been unnerving to Draco. When it was loud you couldn’t hear the people lurking behind you. God. He was beginning to sound like Mad-Eye. “Grab your coat Malfoy, let’s go get something to eat. I’m...

...Another trip to Europe made me note my observations of Spanish culture and custom differences to the United States. I found the changes fascinating. I always think that the small differences, while sometimes being irritating at the time, add to the charm of the city I visit. In Spain I visited Barcelona, Seville, Madrid and Toledo. It gave me a good overview of the culture differences between the various regions of the country. Activity: Most people in Spain have a very different schedule than us in the United States. Here we tend to get up around 6:30am in the morning and go to sleep around 10:00pm at night. In Spain they get up later in the day. We couldn’t even find milk or coffee in the morning until after 9am. The streets are deserted except for a few workers heading off to their jobs. At 2:00 in the afternoon until 5 or 6pm, the streets once again become barren. The entire city takes a “siesta” while they eat their large lunch and rest during the hottest part of the day. Only a few shops stay open for the tourist trade. The stores then open at 6 and stay open until around 9. The people would stay out until all hours of the evening and head off to bed around 2 or 3am. No matter how we tried, we never got used to the schedule. This was the hardest part of visiting Spain. Food: I found the eating times in Spain to be very interesting. You could find a very light breakfast of a croissant or pastry with juice or coffee around 9am. We actually saw some Spaniards having...

Oliver shrugged his shoulders and left. Everyday, he had something rude about me to joke about— from my divorce, to my...
