...the 2016 Black Lives Matter movement. Chic-Fil-A is known for their deep conservative ways and mind sets, and Dan T. Cathy frequently speaks out about things he personally doesn’t agree with. In today’s day and age it is considered difficult to keep a business running with a conservative approach. But somehow Chic-Fil-A keeps going, regardless of the comments the Chief Operating Officer makes. Dan T. Cathy’s comments in regards to same-sex marriage in June of 2012 were; “I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, "We know better than you as to what...

...I have held several jobs in my short work history. Each job came with its own unique challenges and responsibilities ranging from pouring someone’s Coke, to helping a mother stop her child’s bleeding nose. in my mind, being a cashier at Chic-Fil- A and a lifeguard at the local water work was completely different. At Chic-Fil A, I had to display hospitality, responsibility when dealing with customer's orders, and also have a strong work ethic. While being a lifeguard, I had a bigger sense of responsibility, I had to be more serious, and be detail orientated because lives could possibly be at risk. As a cashier for Chic-Fil-A, I had various responsibilities. However, above all, I was to ensure customer satisfaction with as much hospitality as I could summon. This was, by far, the most monotonous part of the job. My fellow Chic-fil-a employees and I were required to respond to every “thank you” we recieved with, “My Pleasure”. That phrase quickly integrated itself into my vocabulary with each passing customer. Amongst my other responsibilities was to make drinks to the customer's’ order and provide any dipping sauces they...

...presidential elections, gay rights have also been sparking upheaval in relation to the workplace. Specifically, in a Huffington Post article “Chick-fil-A Anti-Gay Controversy: Gay Employees Speak Out,” Lila Shapiro writes on the effects of Dan Cathy’s, founder and owner of Chic-Fil-A, coming out against gay marriage. Though clear, fair, and evidence based arguments can be given for both opponents and proponents on gay marriage, Shapiro only whimsically urges readers to wake up to Cathy’s mistakes with an argument from pity while also begging the question; claiming that his choices were a biased hatred towards the gay community. The article fails to show both sides of the argument and only makes an attempt to pull sympathy from readers by one sided views of those opposing Cathy’s business and religious choices to accept the writer’s views. For example, from one of the many stories she lists to support her claims, she writes: One gay employee who works at Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., and asked to remain anonymous for fear of losing his job, says he is getting it from both sides. On the one hand, there is the customer who came in and said he supported Dan Cathy and then "continues to say something truly homophobic, e.g. 'I'm so glad you don't support the queers, I can eat in peace,'" the employee, who is 23 and has worked for Chick-fil-A since he was 16, wrote in an email. On the other hand, he continued, "I was yelled at for being a god-loving, conservative, homophobic Christian...

...Nutritional Assessment Duane Daquioag NURS 225 WestCoast University Nutritional Self-Assessment Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. “It can be used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health complications” (CDC, 2015) but it is not a reliable source of information to get a person’s body fatness or health of an individual. My BMI score is 24.4; to find that, I divided my weight in kilograms (70.9 kg) by the square of height in meters (2.9 m). HAMWI is used to calculate the ideal body weight of an individual based on their height and body frame (FitnessHealth101, 2016). To calculate for my ideal body weight I should add 6 pounds to every inch above 5 feet and add it to 106. So mine would be= 106 + (6 x 7)= 148 lbs. According to HAMWI, my ideal weight should be 148 lbs but my current weight is 156 lbs; so that means that I am currently 8 pounds over my ideal body weight. In accordance with BMIs standards, I am within the healthy range of my body mass index, but as HAMWI stated, I am 8 pounds over my ideal body weight. “One concern with the accuracy of the Hamwi approach to determining your optimum weight is that an individual's lean muscle mass is not taken into account. This may produce a result that underestimates the optimum weight for an individual” (FitnessHealth101, 2016). Hamwi does not take into account the weight of my lean muscle mass and I do weight lifting as part of my regular...

Target always has the latest gadgets, latest trends, etc. They are ready for anything that is thrown at them, and I think they do have the needed skillsets they are going to need. * Chick-fil-A: Through uncertainty, ambiguity, and sudden change environments, Chick-fil-A seems to remain constant. They have their great service, delicious food, and kind employees who are willing to go above and beyond for the customer. ...Dr. Leasher and Dr. Miller clarify the meaning of private and public sectors to provide an understanding of their essential differences. The author’s state, “that the most important distinction between the public and private sectors is the ability (or inability) for an organization to transfer rights of ownership.)”. For example: Chic-fil-a is recognized as a private entity and H.E.B is known as a public entity. Predetermined hypothetical comparisons and contrasts were also mentioned in the article. The comparisons mentioned between the two sectors were on worker productivity, organizational effectiveness and public scrutiny. The contrasts were centered on monetary focus, transparency of goals, the framework of governing, how to measure competence. Previous Research Analyzed The Authors analyzed previous studies of discrimination amongst the entities. Other readings have essentially investigated prejudice trends within each entity, with the majority of the studies centering on the public entities. Federal government’s equal employment opportunity recruitment programs, Federal Glass Ceiling Commission, and federal court cases were also examined. Studies that the authors mention reveal public sector may have less discrimination trends. However, these readings do not measure validity since they only measured prejudice-related variables. Method of Research Dr. Leasher and Dr. Miller used the OCRC database to research discrimination claims. The four leading bases of claims on...

...Chick-Fil-A Selling Chicken with a side of GOD A Positive Ethical Organization Chasity Wilson 10-13-2015 Chick-fil-A: Selling Chicken with a side of GOD WHAT DISTINGUISHES AN ETHICAL COMPANY? We as Americans tend to focus on companies unethical behavior, lapses of judgement, corporate misconduct or the methods corporations may use to hide unethical business practices from the public view this process leads to national scrutiny. We seldom recognize an organization that displays positive-intentional ethic behaviors that are defined as acceptable by the American people. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the ethical standards of the fast food chain Chick-Fil-A and determine if the company establishes a code of ethics. The Webster Dictionary defines ethics as following accepted rules of personal and professional behavior. It is prescribed philosophy dealing with questions of what is good and what is bad combined with moral duty and obligation, the principles of moral behavior governing an individual or group. By implementing a standard of ethical behavior, as a business, the restaurant chain Chick-Fil-A in my opinion exemplifies a living code of ethics as a cognitive, affective, and behavior manifestation of an ethical organization. In your opinion has Chick-Fil-A set a new standard for a positive ethical organization and does the concept of ethics and integrity have a deeper meaning that what the dictionary definition provides? Chick-fil-A (chick-fil-ay,...

...Servant-Leadership Theory from a Socially Constructed World View and a Biblical World View Mark J. Dixon Jr. Liberty University Abstract Servant-Leadership Theory has been a progressive theory in which much study has been done. Robert Greenleaf began using the term servant leadership to encourage leaders to first want to serve. There are two different world views discussed in this research paper that will shed light into what it takes to be a servant leader and how it can be successful if there is a full understanding of the theory present. There is the secular and the biblical world view in which differences in the two are identified. Servant-Leadership is meant to be more than just a way to see positive outcomes in a business, but it also transfers into effecting people’s lives. An attempt to enhance understanding and the question trying to be answered here is what separates the secular view of Servant-Leadership Theory from the Biblical worldview. This paper examines the characteristics and goals of servant-leadership though both worldviews to give a better understanding of servant-leadership theory. Keywords: servant-leadership, characteristics, biblical, secular Servant-Leadership Theory from a Socially Constructed World View and a Biblical World View There has been much attention given to leadership theories since the introduction of Servant-Leadership Theory by Robert Greenleaf in 1970. Greenleaf’s intent for servant-leadership is to help not only the leader...

...Spring 2012 Firehouse Subs Case Study Entrepreneurship 351 History Firehouse Subs is a franchise business that serves submarine sandwiches. Robin and Chris Sorensen opened the first location in 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida. Robin and Chris are two brothers that once worked as firefighters in the state of Florida. After sampling other entrepreneurial ventures, the two brothers decided to expound on Firehouse Subs, turning it into a franchise business after a few short years. The Sorenson’s began to tackle the Southeast region of the United States in efforts to set up shops and serve sandwiches. In 2001, there were 30 Firehouse Subs restaurants operating across Florida. As of today, they have 450 locations in 29 states within the United States. Using the thematic of fire stations, the brothers pay homage to their firefighting roots and have decorated and carried on the tradition of having their restaurants emulate a firehouse and serve sandwiches specializing in “the best meats, cheeses, and toppings [they] can find.” It’s because of this recipe, and stellar customer service, that the Sorenson’s have been as successful thus far. Financial Issues In 2008 Firehouse Subs sales shockingly declined throughout the submarine chain by 3.4 percent. The decline in sales shocked executives because of the restaurant being in the lower priced category, where usually is positioned well enough in the market during economic downturns to attract continuing dining out customers...

...The Supreme Court and Civil Liberties No matter what an individual believes, one thing is for certain, religion has a huge impact within our own society and throughout the world. Recent advances of this freedom have caused serious implications in the middle east. Religion in the United States is diverse and as a result of this diversity, we see that followers of certain religions will use the diversity of religion within to influence or even manipulate those who do not share the same views. Often times, this expression and influence has a negative effect on society. Throughout this essay, I will go in depth and discuss examples of the impact that religion has had throughout our own society and the world along with the greater impacts the freedom has had on our society. More specifically, I will select four religions that have created a fragmented society we have come to know. What is now being termed a terrorist attack, the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya is an example of how the exercise of freedom of religion here in the United States has had severe implications elsewhere. An anti-Muslim film was produced by a right wing group here in the United States that sparked outrage within the middle east. Once anti-American Muslims found out about “The Innocence of Muslims,” attacks on United States consulates were planned. The attack that received the greatest amount of coverage was in Benghazi, Libya and resulted in the death of four Americans. Not...
