The Battle of the Alamo in 1836 is an important battle in Chicano history from the Texas Revolution. The battle was a conflict between both Mexico and the colonists in Texas that altered the future of Mexico, Texas, and the United States of America. The chain of events and tensions between the two forces led to the Battle of the Alamo and created a different environment for both the US and Mexico.

Santa Anna had hopes in being able to “crush the revolt” and gain control of Texas again with his army, yet the soldiers he brought along with him were not properly trained or prepared (Digital History). Santa Anna’s soldiers “had been forcefully conscripted into the army” where they had to march “hundreds of miles over hot, arid desert land” (Acuña 44). The battle lasted thirteen days between the two forces (History). The Alamo was considered to have “little strategic value” but was “the best-protected fort west of Mississippi” (Acuña 44). The Texas forces managed to acquire 21 cannons and rifles that had a range of 200 yards in order to defend themselves against the Mexicans (Acuña 44). While the Mexicans only had minimal range smoothbore muskets and made progress out in the open, the Euro-American colonists protected themselves behind the mission walls and fired back (Acuña 44). The battle consisted mainly of “well-armed, professional soldiers” from the Texas side against “ill-prepared, ill-equipped, and ill-fed” Mexicans (Acuña
