Building Blocks PreSchool

While visiting Building Blocks Preschool's 2 1/2 and 3 year class on March 18, 2013 I had the opportunity to observe there class from the start of the learning day up until 3:00pm. Space: As I entered the class room I noticed that the classroom was in good repair as well as clean and accessible to the young individuals I did not notice any thing out of place everything was well put together. As far as light was concearned there was not enough sun light to enter the room being that the class room was in the back of the building. There is no door in the classroom that leads to the outside only the one window. There was more than enought space to move freely as far children with disabilities there are no students that attend Building Blocks with any know physical disabilities. The shape of the classroom is a rectangle where all children are in sight and sound of the teachers at all times. Shelfs were at height and arms reach of the children shelfs were accessible to the child so no needed assistance was needed by the teachers. As I walked around the classroom I observed that all sockets were covered and there were no hanging cords around that the child could have access to. The cabinets that cleaning solutions are kept in are labled and locked with a child resistant strap. The outdoor play area safe for all ages of children that Building Blocks provides care for. One area is concrete for riding bikes while the rest of the play area is covered with grass and mulch.
Room Arrangement: The space of the class room is not noisy background music is played during music and movement and during naptime. All surfaces of the classroom are easy to clean with a cleaning solution and paper towels. Both hot and cold water are available at all times. There are 3 tables used for feeding and when messes are made sweeping and mopping is not an issue. The childrens cubbies are located outside of the classroom and are occupied by 2 students each. Each child's clothing are labeld in seperate containers with child's name written on the outside. There are spaces available for Housekeeping, Art, Books, Blocks and Table toys. The block area is located near the carpet to reduce noise levels while the book area is located in the corner near the window.
Activity Center: All materials are labeld with pictures such as a pictures of the legos so that they children will know that the legos go in that spot when cleaning up and etc. Shelves are low enough and easy accessible for children. No toys are located in front of the doorway.
Furnishing: All shelves are eye level of the children. And there are no materials stacked. There is only 1 adult sized chair for the teacher. The children and the teachers sit together during activities and meal times.
Napping: Bedding is placed on the child's individual cots and stored in a section of the classroom. During nap time the cots are 3'' apart. The classroom is filled with lullaby music, and is dark enough for children to rest.
Toileting: There is no foot operated trash cans all trashcans in the classroom as well as bathrooms do not have tops on them. Handwashing procedures are made after play before and after bathroom and meals times.
Lunch or Snack: The tables are sanatized with bleach prior to the kids sitting down for meal time.
Handwashing: The children were asked to wash hands before and after meal times, play and bathroom. The teachers did not re-contaminate their hands. And all children were monitored to keep hands out of their faces and asked to sit with there hands in their laps until meal time.
Gross Motor and Outdoor Play: From 1015- 1045 am the 2 1/2-3 year olds have Gym time when weather is warm Outdoor play is from 1000-1030am and 300-330 oudoor play if weather is warm and gym time 400-420. Bicycles, balls and soft mates are available in the gym, while outside there is a merry go round, bicycles, a play house and a slide set. Children understand that there is no running or pushing allowed. Teachers are always supervising and are in eye and sight view of children at all times.
Interactions: I observed warmth from every staff in this Preschool. I recieved postive feed back and I would love to have the opportunity to come back at any time. The teachers interacted with the children throught toileting and meals.

While observing this classroom I really enjoyed how the teachers stressed the importance of health and safety throughout the day and how the treated each child as if they were there very own. Not once did I see a teacher mistreat or judge a child the whole time I was there I really enjoyed this experience and meeting new faces. There is nothing that I would change about this facility one bit.m

...Key Elements Of Health and Social Care Services. There are many types of provisions that suppport health and social care services for example stautory, voluntary, private and informal. There are many different ways of providing health and social care. Most care is provided by the goverment, this is called stautory care this is provided by the law. For example the goverment have a responsibility to provide some type of chilcare for a child in the form of schools and nurserys. There are many examples of statutory care for example the NHS, The NHS is working with the goverment so for example if a person needed an operation which is important the NHS will get funding by taxes of individuals and the goverment to fund for this operation, this is how the NHS provide health and social care. Another way of providing health and social care services is Voluntary. Some organisations care services provide these services without being asked to, they have chosen too. For example British Red Cross and The Salvation Army, some voluntary care services count on donations from individuals and half the staff who work for them are volunteers. Private care is funded by the individual. The goverment have nothing to do with private care. With Private care a person has to be able to pay for this, the goverment do not fund for private care. You can not get private care if you can not afford it. Many people go with private care because they want to avoid NHS waiting lists, not sure about NHS...

Early Education and Practice Assignment

...Comprehensive profile of history and development of the ECCE sector in Ireland. In 1969 the first state run preschool was opened in Rutland street in Dublin. Its aims were for children who were from disadvantaged areas. The department of education worked with an organization called the Van Leer foundation. This organization promotes the early education of children in economically disadvantaged areas. They both set up the pre-school in Rutland street. They were known as early pre-schools. 40 pre-schools had opened nationally. Their aims were to combat the effects of economic and social achievements. These aims were achieved by giving a good start to a child's education. (Flood and Hardy,2015) In 1973 the bar for marriage was lifted which allowed woman to return to work, it was lifted as there was nobody to look after children in families. This then created a need for child minders and childcare services. The preschool education was mainly in the private sector for children with the need of specific intervention and with special needs. The ECEC needs for babies, young children and their families were all met by the community, private enterprises and voluntary. (Flood, E. and Hardy,2013) According to early childhood Ireland, 2015 in 1992 Ireland ratified the UN convention on the rights of the child.
