Introduction A child's physical, cognitive, and social development is vital at a young age while the brain and body are still developing; Because this is the age that the brain is putting itself together, this is the age children obtain most of their lifelong morals and values! Every child develops differently depending on the environment they are put in; for example, if a child is raised around negative situations and violent scenarios, whether it's media or actual life, that child will most likely turn out aggressive and angry; it is very important parents help children to acquire skills in all developmental domains to help them live to their fullest potential and be the best they can be.

Method Allison is 7 year old girl who is mix of American, Irish, and German. She was born in Roseville and moved to Lincoln shortly after. Allison's parents have joint legal custody of Allison, or the custody in which the parents share the right and responsibility to make decisions regarding the child's welfare and, share the child (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 403); She spends fifty percent of the time at her moms apartment in Lincoln and the other fifty at her dads house in Sacramento. At her moms house, she has her little sister (from a different dad) and sometimes her moms boyfriend comes over; at her dad's house she has her dad's wife, along with her dads wife's two female children around Allison's age and her baby sister who she is half related to. While her mother works, Allison goes to work with her, or is watched by her moms best friend, while at her dads house her step mom is a stay at home mom who stays home with all the children. I interviewed her in her moms house where it was pretty loud and obnoxious; Her little sister was playing with toys and making a lot of noise and her mom was watching TV. Most of my interview I was following Allison around and asking her questions while she played with her sister; Because she was very distracted and wanted to play, I had difficulty getting her to answer all my questions so the interview took around an hour but I had a great time!

Physical Physical growth is extremely important in young children because it teaches them a variety of things, such as, creativity, sharing, cooperation, critical thinking, problem solving, etc., as well as, helps them: gain muscle, develop motor skills, and to be healthy individuals. While Allison is at her moms house, she develops some physical skills by doing things like, going to the pool, taking walks to the park, attending practice for her basketball team, and eating her moms "yummy vegetable rice!" (May, personal communication, October 15, 2014). She is developing some gross motor skills, or physical skills involving large muscle, when she walks to the park, swims in the pool, and/or plays basketball while she is helping her body grow nutritional-wise while eating her moms healthy vegetable rice (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 161). Parents don't realize the vital importance of health and nutrition in young children, but it can be just as important as activity in the physical development of a child; Undernutrition is an underlying cause in more than half if all death before age 5 (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 263). Not only is growing in motor development and health but she is also learning the concepts of sharing, critical thinking, cooperation, and problem solving while in basketball! While she is with her dad she is gaining gross motor development while she jumps on the trampoline, goes on the tire swing, and plays outside with her sisters, and fine motor development, or the physical skills that involve small muscles and hand-eye coordination, while playing with dolls with her sisters (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 161). For her age, she is very healthy and active! Most children today are more into media and don't get the chance to join athletic teams, but her parents make sure that she gets the physical activity and nutrition he needs.

Cognitive In Piaget's theory of cognitive development, Allison falls under the "concrete operations" stage, or the third stage of Piaget's theory where children develop logical but not abstract thinking (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 360). I realized she was in this stage as I watched her play with her sister; Allison knew her shapes, colors, numbers, and could categorize her toys in order of these things, for example, she showed sorted out the dolls clothes by color and asked her sister which color she wanted to put on her doll; Also, I knew she thought very logically because when I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up she responded, a vet so she could have money to support her family and because she liked animals (May, personal communication, October 15, 2014); younger children would not think that much into their future and would more likely say something like "I want to be Dora the Explorer" using their imagination. She gains cognitive skill at home and in school; for example, her mom likes to read with her and ,while in school, she is learning something new every day through activities and academics; also while she is in school she is doing a lot of communication which expands her language skills and vocabulary! Of the eight intelligences of Gardner's theory, which just says there are eight distinct forms of intelligence in which a person falls under, I would say Allison falls under the Naturalist intelligence because she loves the outdoors and wants to be a veterinarian (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 373); she also talked a lot about her friends dog whom she loved to go see which expresses her love for nature! Another thing she does at her moms house was watch TV and play video games; she does not do this often only once a week because that is what her parents allow, which is awesome because media can lead to all kinds of negative effects on children! Also, she texts her dad while she is at her moms and visa versa which helps her to work on her spelling!

Social/Emotional Allison was very hyper-active throughout the interview and had a hard time sitting still which led me to believe she had a, no so much difficult, active temperament, or style of approaching or reacting to situations, as a younger child (Papalia, Martorell, & Feldman, 2013, p. 161); She was very girly, happy, energetic, and was a little fussy at times. When I asked her what kinds of things she liked she said flowers because they are pretty just like her which shows she has a very high self esteem; Also, she knows she is a good friend and that her friends like her. Besides thinking boys have cooties, Allison doesn’t seem to have any gender stereotypes! She likes the same colors as a boy would, plays the same sports, and has toys that boys would also play with! It is obvious in her mother's home that she is not stereotypical of gender.

Conclusion In conclusion, what I learned from interview is that it is a lot of hard work to ensure your child is developing to the best of their ability; It requires money, time, and hard work. I think people today just don't have those things and/or get lazy about it; parents need to realize the importance of the developmental domains and focus on getting the skills their children need to live to their best abilities. Allison is a very intelligent, healthy, active, and social because her parents worked hard in focusing on her physical, cognitive, and social development throughout her childhood.

...What I found interesting about this interview, is that the parent was explaining to her sons that I was doing a research paper on their disability of their sight, and that I was going to ask them some questions, the oldest son said that he did not have a disability. Another detail that I found interesting is that, the parent said that even though the teachers are aware of her oldest son’s lack of vision, and there was legal documentation some general education teachers were not sensitive to her son’s inability to see, and the teachers would thing that they were just being lazy. I also found it interesting is that she not perceive that anything was abnormal with both her sons’ sight before they attended pre-school, and that she believed that it was part of her sons’ personalities and was putative of them....

Child Rearing Interview Paper

...For my second interview lab report, I interviewed my roommate Dani Lyra. He grew up in Brazil, so I was expecting the child rearing practices to be very different than that of my own. However, I was surprised to find out that his childhood was a lot like mine. Brazil is among the most culturally and racially diverse country in the world, with over 195 million people living there and a variety of child rearing practices. There is a huge margin for diversity in parenting styles among many other this, as is the common trend of this quarters class. Most Brazilians live in urban areas and tend to have diverse historical and cultural backgrounds. Through this interview, I discovered that the way Dani grew up was quite similar to those being raised in a middle-class European American family....

Interview Tips

...Job Interview Answer: What is Your Greatest Weakness? When you're asked what your greatest weakness is, try to turn a negative into a positive. For example, a sense of urgency to get projects completed or wanting to triple-check every item in a spreadsheet can be turned into a strength i.e. you are a candidate who will make sure that the project is done on time and your work will be close to perfect. Note that the term "weakness" isn't used in the sample answers - you always want to focus on the positive when interviewing. * When I'm working on a project, I don't want just to meet deadlines. Rather, I prefer to complete the project well ahead of schedule. * Being organized wasn't my strongest point, but I implemented a time management system that really helped my organization skills. * I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little too much time checking it. However, I've come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time. * I used to wait until the last minute to set appointments for the coming week, but I realized that scheduling in advance makes much more sense. * I would say that I can be too much of a perfectionist in my work. Sometimes, I spend more time than necessary on a task, or take on tasks personally that could easily be delegated to someone else. Although I've never missed a deadline, it is still an effort for me to know when to move on to the next task...

You Just Have to Make the Pain Go Away

...grounded theory: “owing to the subjective nature of the pain experience, children’s self-reports should be the most reliable source of the methods used in the management of their pain” (Kortesluoma, Nikkonen, & Serlo, 2008, p. 147-148). There is a scarcity of research on children’s perception of pain and their expectation of pain management when in a hospital setting. Previous studies focused on methods used by health care providers and parents in alleviating children’s pain. This study’s purpose is to “describe the interventions young children use themselves and their expectations of other’s help, when managing the pain experienced during hospitalization” (Kortesluoma, et al., 2008, p. 144). Gained knowledge provides quality ‘child-centered’ pain management to hospitalized children by health care providers. The data collected provides insight to understanding children’s pain and identifies interventions that children report useful in managing pain during hospitalization....
