The child observed played with the a tricycle, a wooden log, and swung from the monkey bars as well as the other jungle gym equipment. These tasks, with the exception of the wooden log, require an array of controlled movements. In order to use the tricycle he had to have asymmetrical coordination between both of his lower extremity muscles and upper extremity muscles for purposes of pedaling and steering. This asymmetrical coordination is also evident in his altering shoulder movements as he had to switch from side to side, in regards to both weight shifts and shoulder activity, in order to traverse across the monkey bars. These skills also require feedforward processing in order to maintain postural stability and, in the case of the tricycle, …show more content…
In terms of Symmetry and comparing how the movements look on each side, he did not seem to have any distinct deficits on either side, and had “mirrored” movements. His posture while biking, was in a posterior pelvic tilt, while slightly leaning back, which is fitting as the bike had no back rest for him to lean on, and thus he had to engage his core to stay upright. However, due to his age and muscle development, he was not able to maintain a completely upright posture. His range of movement was limited to that of the bike, so not much can be derived in relation to this fine motor requirement, however he was able to successfully perform the movements required to proficiently operate the bike within this limitation. In operating the bike, several different muscle synergies were put into play including that of his neck stabilizers,both leg flexor and extensors, his postural control muscles, as well as those of his upper extremities. As discussed previously, he demonstrated a precision grip, in the form of a palmer grasp, which is fitting for that of a handle bar. Not only did he demonstrate coordination through an asymmetrical movement pattern, but as discussed above, he relied on feedforward information to relay what his visual input to the corresponding muscles in order to slow down, not crash, etc. This is how the child observed was able to demonstrate off the

She is the youngest of 4 children. After sitting and observing her for about 45-60 minutes, I was amazed how active she was and how often her desire to do something different changed during this time frame. I watched her as she ran around the run and jumping with the older children try to keep with them. Rylee was trying to imitate what the other children was doing. Next I observed her language development as she expressed her desire to have a cookie, something to drink and to stop a puppy from chasing her. This small school is very near a state university, although it is not directly associated with it.
