My family means the world to me. I do not care of others talking about my family because I am honestly proud to be in it and to be inherited all the characteristics from my parents. According to my neighbors, I got my personalities and my appearance looking from my father’s side. From my round face to my chubby body, it is all from my grandmother passing to my father then to me. Growing as a child, I spent my time in my old little house with my best friend, as know as my grandmother. However, it got replaced by a brand new house and she passed away due to cancer; therefore, most of my childhood memories got forgotten day by day. In my opinion, the definition of “home” to Ann Hood is her childhood. The River Street brings her back to her childhood time; even for thirty – eight years. It is just a normal street that does not know how to speak or express feelings. However, whenever she is there, River Street would lead her back to the past in her thoughts. As she said, “River Street connected me to the rest of the world” (Hood 239), people can feel how important the street is to her. The “world” is a very strong vocabulary and it is a connection toward her own life. A very significant moment that Ann told in her writing was the carnival, Little Miss Natick Beauty Pageant. What I feel like while reading this part was she, herself and her mother; only who can against the whole world which is others’ competitors. That is why people embrace family values. Her mother taught her how to perform by a poem and therefore, she got success. Ann won Little Miss Natick 1963 and after that, others’ mother’s competitors cut her leopard bikini because they were jealous and angry. “It was that kind of town, And River Street, with its, shabby beauty, epitomized it.” (Hood 239). At the end of the paragraph, she concluded describing her town interestingly. Ann did not forget about River Street, even it looks not good but it would not be completed for her town, without the River Street. River Street had attached with Ann since the moment she was born and went with her every events that happened in her life span. I am sure that every time she passes the River Street, a little moment from her past would just pop up in her head. She would flash back to the old good
