In today’s world cell phones are the new watch, wallet, or car keys, can’t leave home without them. We’d like to think age plays little part to no part to whether or not a child will have use of or own their a cell phone. If one can think about the contributing factors that play into whether a child has a cell phone or not the thought of who holds that power has to be considered. The child’s ability to have a cell phone comes down to the parents. The parents are held responsible for making this decision whether or not their child is ready or old enough to have a cell phone. According to author Susan Davis of Is Your Child Ready for a Cell Phone, 2014, twice as many students have cells phones since 2004 and 85% of children aged 14-17 – have cell phones. 69% of 11-14 year olds and 31% of kids aged 8-10 according to a 2010 survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The number of cell phones owned by kids or used by kid’s shows that parents agree that it does make their lives feel safer than if they did not have these cell phones. Must also have other benefits other than taking away some of that life stress caused when not knowing where your child is and what they are doing. With all the good and bad that technology brings fourth one must ask themselves this question. Should children have cell phones regardless of the age that it is felt necessary? This paper will address this question with the following conclusions:
1. Reason 1: Cell phones are convenient way to stay in contact with your child for all purposes allowing parents to feel safer especially in an emergency situation.
