...Helicopter parents hurt their children without knowing it. Helicopter parents are parents who instead of letting their children figure out the world on their own they’re always there to “help”. Helicopter parents do this by “helping” their children to a point to where they’re just giving out the answers thus making their children not understanding the topic at which their learning. In the end helicopter parents can hurt their child without even knowing. Helicopter parents hurt their children by causing depression, not being able to learn as well and, worse work ethics. ...with ADHD is correlated with significant increases in the amount of stress that parents experience. It was hypothesized that coping strategies would be different between mothers of children with/without ADHD. The purpose of this study was to determine whether coping strategies differ in the two mother groups. Fifty Iranian mothers of children aged between 6 to 12 participated in this study (25 mothers of children with ADHD and 25 mothers of children without ADHD). For assessing coping strategies, ways of coping questionnaire (WOCQ) by Folkman and Lazarus (1988) was administered on subjects. T. test was used for analyzing data. ...“Should parents control the lives of their teenage children” Good morning teachers and students of the Basseterre High School. I wish to take this opportunity to share my position on the following question, should parents control the lives of their teenage children? It is most important that parents should have a very integral part in their children lives to guide and to mould them so that they can become respectful and loyal human being in society. As the bible teaches us as parents “we should train up our children in the way they should grow that when they are old they will not depart from it” (it meaning what they where thought as children growing up). To be respectful of other, as they are of themselves, be patient, forgiving, kind, loving, thoughtful. Our society does not like unruly nor disrespectful children. They do not fit into society when they are misbehaved and become delinquent children. They will be seen as trouble makers and as such do not fit well into society. It is very vital for parents to control the lives of their children. Parents need to help them to develop good decision making skills and to provide security both physically and emotionally. Parents are obligated to provide food, clothing and shelter for their teenage children. Therefore, if parents are the ones providing the necessities of life they should have full control over their children lives as teenagers. Teenagers are very dependent on their parents. They look to their parents for...

How could we have reacted in the past when approached or placed in a position that called for communication with someone with a verbal barrier? To make it work, we must work together. Parents that have children with or without children who verbal barriers; are at the beginning where improvements can begin. ...jumped from babysitter to babysitter throughout his childhood. His mother was forced to work two jobs and was absent most of the time. There has been occasions when his mother was without work and they ended up on welfare. With his father not in the picture and his mother at work most of the time, he found himself seeking refuge with the wrong crowd of people. He got involved with drugs, and started selling them to support his habit, and ended up dropping out of school. Bill practically grew up alone, with no guidance, discipline or supervision. He has a son, whom was born out of wedlock, and has no contact with him. In spite of his apparent intelligence and with no formal education, he is not able to get a decent job. He works here-and-there doing manual labor, but he is going nowhere. He considers himself a failure and suffers from depression. Bill has tried to locate his father to ask him why he did not want him, and why he had abandoned him. Unfortunately, he said he has not been able to find him. Every question I asked him about his life’s mistakes led him to say “I did not have a father to guide me.” Unfortunately Bill is repeating his father’s behavior pattern for he has also abandoned his own child (William Jones). ...AMERICAN CHILDREN ARE OVERMEDICATED This is absolute truth that children in the United States are exposed to more medication today than ever before. The numbers of children on these medications are becoming astronomical that we are facing one of the greatest man-made challenges of a life time. Prescribing medication to kids without taking into consideration all the precaution is common in our communities. It is outrageous to think that every problem we notice in children can be solved only be medications. It is sad that this notion had also been implanted in the mind of kids around this nation. Parents are too hasty to give pills to children when they notice a behavior dysfunction in their children without researching other alternative means of dealing with these issues. It is disgusting and inhumane that some group of parent have resorted to the ideal that it is ok to give pills to theirs kids in order to have an easier day. It is unfortunate we are not fully aware of the consequence of these medications on the growth and development of our children over the long term. The fact is that any medication given to children can have several side effects: coma, seizures, weight gain, stunted growth, brain development delay, increased heart rate and eventually leads to death. Another major difficult with the frightening number of children being overmedicated is associated with the American Society itself. The pharmaceutical industry had for years exert influence and still employing...

...respond differently than what that individual may anticipate. These outsiders act this way, not by alternative, but by the way they were raised. Parents around the world have numerous distinct ways and traditions that they bring their young kids up in that these parents believe will arrange their children for the genuine world. There are three different kinds of parenting methods that are prevalent in this generation. Authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative parenting methods each have distinct characteristics and effect the way their young kids grow up and evolve and are classified accordingly in the society today. “Old-fashioned rules help your children understand where they stand, what they are allowed to do, and what is expected of them. Unlike permissive parents who always want to be liked, authoritarian parents expect to be respected” (Llyod). Authoritarian parenting is dictatorial, unjust, and rough. With obedience being the first priority, authoritarian parents are strict with their children. These parents do not display much warmth or nurture towards their children and are inclined to be requiring yet not responsive.”These parents support one-sided communication where they establish rules without explanation and expect them to be obeyed without complaint or question.” (“Controlling Parents More Likely to Have Delinquent Children”) A widespread characteristic is control and respect with little to no reasoning behind the penalty. For demonstration, a child who is notified...

...young age. Today, children do not believe in working hard for what they want, but just asking for everything, especially excessive help in school. Some parents believe they are helping their children by handing them what they want, but they are, in fact, hurting them. If a child asks their parent to help them with a project and their guardian ends up completing it for them, the student does not learn anything from the assignment, leading one to bad grades on an assessment regarding that information. In order to make children independent at a young age, parents need to take a step back and allow their children to care and think for themselves when possible. The article, "A Nation...

...parenting styles to educate their children (Hong, 2012). “Indubitably, all parents want their children to succeed at school, but not all parents are successful in facilitating [this] success” (Mandell & Sweet, 2004, cited in Areepattamannil, 2010, p.283). According to Hong (2012), in order for the parents to furnish the desirable and sustainable parenting skills for their children’s healthy development, it is essential to understand and inquire into the impact of the various types of parenting styles towards their children’s behavior, especially their academic performance in school. According to the developmental psychologist, Diana Baumrind (Verenikina, Vialle & Lysaght, 2011),...

...repeated exposure to violence inside and outside of the home, images portrayed in the media and the easy access to firearms. Although all of these matters, alone or combined, can turn any child into a juvenile delinquent, parenting is one of the primary causes. Parents are live-in examples for juveniles whom learn by example. There are other sources children can be influenced by, but parents are the most important source simply because they are the primary caregivers, role models and first leading examples for children. Families are one of the strongest socializing forces in life. The images parents and family members portray determine what young children learn to be right or wrong and take as lifelong morals and standards. Parents and family life have a great deal of influence over children and basically mold and shape them into adults. Many if not all parents know that parenting is a complex task with no easy answers or solutions. No child comes with an owner’s manual or parenting tips on how to raise children. Parents learn how to raise their children from how they were raised and things they have experienced in life. Parents with more than one child learn from the way they raised their previous children. Parenting is like trial and error, trying different parenting styles until one is found that they feel is best fit for raising their young ones. According to NYU Child Study Center, a woman by the name of Diana Baumrind along with other researchers in child...

...issues that strike us as a society and our children seem to be the ones that suffer most when decisions about the family separating or divorcing are being made. Parents seem to forget that children need stability and protection from the adult issues that can occur in their lives. These decisions will have an effect on children for their entire lives, and parents cannot imagine the long lasting effects. More and more children seem to be on the front lines of these custody battles between parents. Are parents risking the children’s psychological and emotional stability by having the children on the battle ground of a divorce? Children are very resilient but they need parental help to recover from a divorce. The court relies on what the parents are telling them as much as the other professionals and behavioral analysis examiners that have been assigned to the cases. While some parents do not mind this intrusion in to their lives, children feel as if things are not safe or stable. Parents will start to play “tug-of-war” with the children stuck in the middle. Parents who do not settle disputes over custody without the courts help will risk everyone especially the child being hurt. Courts will normally side for what has been the normal stable situation for the child, if there has not been abuse in the home. Parents who are taking the battles for custody of children to the court system should be aware if the court perceives the parents could have settled before asking the court...

...with no parents to take care of them during their childhood? Nowadays in China, many children are living in the countryside without their parents. The Chinese economy is rapidly growing, causing a big income inequality between the urban areas and rural villages. More and more people from the countryside are moving to the cities to work. However, their children have to stay in the rural area because their parents cannot afford to raise them in the city. Normally, these parents come back home once a year and stay for less than one week. So, children hardly have any time to spend with their parents during their childhood. According to a recent survey, there are more than 61 million (equal to the whole population of the United Kindom) stay-at-home children in China. 57.2% of them are taken care of by one of their parents, but for 42.8% of them, both parents are absent. Of the children living without their parents, 79.7% of them are taken care of by their grandparents,13% are cared for by the parents’ friends or relatives, and for 7.3% of them it is not known who is taking care of them. As we all know, an adult’s care is important to children. Without parents to take care of them, the mental health status of the stay-at-home children may be a big hidden trouble in the future. Some people think these children still have grandparents or relatives taking care of them. However, their grandparents also need to do farm work, and they lack the energy to take care of the children. As for their...
