...Can a really committed cross-cultural worker burn out? Not only can committed cross-cultural workers burn out, but the more committed they are, the more likely they are to burn out. If people slip through the screening process with major motives of travel and excitement, they can succeed at that quite readily. However, the more "ideal" cross-cultural workers are, with hearts to win people to Christ, concern for others, and high expectations, the more likely they are to burn out. A related question is, "Can first-term cross-cultural workers burn out?" Again, the answer is that they are at greatest risk for burnout. The time of greatest risk for burnout in any people-helping occupation is the first five years on the job. That is exactly the time frame of the first term and language school in most agencies. This new worker is filled with idealism and high expectations. When reality begins to set in, the first-term cross-cultural worker begins to burn out. What are the effects of burnout? Many pay the price when cross-cultural workers burn out. It affects everyone who comes into contact with them. Personal: In addition to the emotional and physical exhaustion, one may experience disturbed sleep, nightmares, illness, depression and sometimes resort to drugs or alcohol. Family and other cross-cultural workers: Cross-cultural workers burning out begin to expect perfection from others. This leads to impatience, bickering, and fighting at home and in the office. They are available...

... not even Macbeth himself, can know all his inordinate self-love whose actions are discovered to be-and no doubt have been for a long time-determined mainly by an inordinate desire for some temporal or mutable good. Macbeth is actuated in his conduct mainly by an inordinate desire for worldly honors; his delight lies primarily in buying golden opinions from all sorts of people. But we must not, therefore, deny him an entirely human complexity of motives. For example, his fighting in Duncan's service is magnificent and courageous, and his evident joy in it is traceablein art to the natural pleasure which accompanies the explosive expenditure of prodigious physical energy and the euphoria which follows. He also rejoices no doubt in the success which crowns his efforts in battle - and so on. He may even conceived of the proper motive which should energize back of his great deed: The service and the loyalty I owe, In doing it, pays itself. But while he destroys the king's enemies, such motives work but dimly at best and are obscured in his consciousness by more vigorous urges. In the main, as we have said, his nature violently demands rewards: he fights valiantly in order that he may be reported in such terms a "valour's minion" and "Bellona's bridegroom"' he values success because it brings spectacular fame and new titles and royal favor heaped upon him in public. Now so long as these mutable goods are at all commensurate with his inordinate...

...While stationed at a Navy special warfare command I was in charge of the boat shop. In the boat shop we conducted preventive maintenance and any type of repairs that where mission essential. My co-worker had just finished rebuilding an outboard engine that had multiple problems, it took use about two week to rebuild the engine at return it to its running glory. My shop set out for the operational test of this boat, as always I gave a detailed brief to my crew. I instructed my lead mechanic Kevin to come with me on the safety boat and gave Steve the helm on the test boat. Prior to us placing the boats into the water I instructed Steve to be gentle with the boat; it had a few hours of break-in or run-in time that needed to be completed prior to opening it wide and completing the operational test. I informed Steve that he needs to keep an eye on the oil pressure and the RPM gauge to insure that the engine was running as designed. Steve was a seasoned Navy engineman but not a skilled mechanic, I stressed the importance to him and the only words out of his mouth was “don’t worry I got this.” We started out into the water and everything was working as designed, I kept in contact with Steve via a hand held radio, and he kept reading me the engine RPM’s and oil pressure. I would gather the information and analyze the data, and radio back to him that it was ok to continue. This went on for hour and no problems to report. I gave Steve permission to do a full power run and stressed to him...

...stakeholders because they want their salaries kept confidential and want continued employment. The general public and shareholders care about the company being profitable and bringing revenue to the community. The second exception of At-Will Employment seems to be violated in this case. Eddie is telling Jane to lie about seeing the separate tickets of Greg’s. This At-Will law is not lawful because it violates a public policy exception. This means social norms or values are compromised. If an employer orders an employee to lie under oath and the employee refuses, the employer cannot terminate the employee. In this case Eddie is not telling Jane to lie under oath, but still is threatening her with firing her is she says anything (Kaplan EGuide, Chp. 3). The law being violated here is the At-Will Employment Law the final exception being termination for just cause or no cause. This...

...INDUSTRY OVERVIEW Fuel cell principle: Discovered in 1839 by an English physicist, Sir William Grove, the fuel cell principle relies on the simple fact that water could be split into hydrogen and oxygen by sending an electric current through it, a process which is called electrolysis. Therefore, by reversing the procedure you could produce electricity and water. He created a primitive fuel cell and called it a “gas voltaic battery”. After experimenting with his new invention, Grove proved his hypothesis. Fifty years later, scientists Ludwig Mond and Charles Langer invented the term “fuel cell” when they attempted to build a practical model to produce electricity.[i] A fuel cell is an “electrochemical energy conversion device” that combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, water, and heat. As opposed to the battery which stores all its chemicals inside, the fuel cell continuously produces electricity, as long as a source of fuel, e.g. chemicals, flows into the cell. Most fuel cells in use today use hydrogen and oxygen as the chemicals. Since fuel cells do not burn fuel, they make the process quiet, pollution-free and two to three times more efficient than combustion. A fuel cell system can be a truly zero-emission source of electricity, if the hydrogen is produced from non-polluting sources.[ii] Historical outlook: Space research first put the emphasis on the fuel cell technology. Indeed, in the 60s, the NASA chose that type of power generator to equip the...

...Race and Racism Race and Racism Tate Taylor’s film The Help (2011) is a drama genre that shows the audience what it’s like to live during the times of race and racism. The film is told from the point of view Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan Allison Janney, who plays the daughter of Charlotte Phelan who has hired her nanny and maid Constantine. Skeeter does not like the unkind words about her friends calling the maid the “help” so she is inspire to write about the experiences of the housekeepers. This film shows Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan “ Hypocrisy and integrity are the larger race-driven which is the major theme. (Goodykoontz &Jacobs, 2014,Chp. 4.3 , para.21). The movie The Help shows racism manifests in the lives of the black maids in a number of ways: they are denied opportunities for educational or professional advancement, they perform repetitive work for white families, they must curtail their speech to prevent violence, and they must use separate facilities. Perhaps most damaging of all, black people are constantly exposed to social messages telling them that they are dirty, lazy, and in all respects less than white people. This film open up a lot of attention when it was written and film. I caused shame to Hilly for being so mean and evil to the “help”. Hilly represented an Adolph Hilter in his days to the Jewish people without having them put to death. Hilly made sure that if something was not her way she had them fired and told other maids not to hire the maids...

...What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)? Though there is no universal definition of corporate social responsibility, it generally refers to transparent business practices that are based on ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, and respect for people, communities, and the environment. Thus, beyond making profits, companies are responsible for the totality of their impact on people and the planet. “People” constitute the company’s stakeholders: its employees, customers, business partners, investors, suppliers and vendors, the government, and the community. Increasingly, stakeholders expect that companies should be more environmentally and socially responsible in conducting their business. In the business community, CSR is alternatively referred to as “corporate citizenship,” which essentially means that a company should be a “good neighbor” within its host community. ...Running head: NARCISSISM AND RELATIONSHIPS ARE NARCISSISTS BAD FOR RELATIONSHIPS OR ARE RELATIONSHIPS BAD FOR NARCISSITS? : THE EFFECT OF NARCISSISM ON CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS by Sara K. Seward 200303585 A term paper presented to Dr. Christie Lomore in Psychology 341:20 The Self Department of Psychology St. Francis Xavier University March 26th, 2007 The term narcissism was first introduced to us by Freud, (1914/1957, as cited in Campbell, Brunell, & Finkel, 2006) in reference to the story of Narcissus. Narcissus was the concept of self-love in human form. He viewed himself as better and more attractive than all of those around him, which in turn prevented him from developing any close, loving relationships with others. Narcissus spent him life looking for the “perfect” partner. One day he fell in love with his own reflection and could not bear to be separated from his newfound love. He remained by the pool of water until he eventually died. The story of Narcissus shows us that having a narcissistic personality can have detrimental effects on not only our relationships but on our selves as well (Campbell, Foster, & Finkel, 2002). By proposing the following research question I hope to identify a possible correlation between narcissistic behaviour and relationship satisfaction. My question is “Do narcissists engage in behaviour that negatively affects their relationships which may lead to a decrease in relationship satisfaction?” A...
