I think that people found Chris McCandless and Everett Ruess appealing because both men "went out and did things (they) dreamed about"(90). Many people don't chase their dreams either because of social standards or pressure from family and friends, and for people to see others chasing dreams gives them hope for what could have been. People find that aspect of them alluring. Both McCandless and Ruess were very passionate about the wilderness and wanting to immerse themselves in the wilderness.
