...screenwriter Cameron Crowe based the Jerry Maguire character on agent Leigh Steinberg, it was Mark McCormack who ushered in the modern era of sports management and marketing. McCormack, founder of International Management Group (IMG), believed the popularity and marketability of athletes could transcend borders, cultures, language, even sports itself. McCormack-managed athletes were the first to endorse clothing, watches, and motor oil. They played exhibition matches around the world (you can thank McCormack for golf's upcoming "silly season"). They gave inspirational talks to business at a hefty price tag. And they played golf or have cocktails with corporate titans -- again for a fee. Whether it was setting up golf matches between a young Arnold Palmer and company chieftains at $500 a game, arranging a series of tennis exhibitions throughout China featuring Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors, or promoting a...

...by the real life story of Chris Gardner, who struggled with homelessness while raising his toddler son. Chris is a single father since her wife no longer able to cope. His wife could not handle under the constant strain of financial pressure, so, she decided to leave and went to work in a restaurant in New York. He continues tenaciously to pursue his life and his son using every sales skill he knows. His top priority was to be a good father to his son, Christopher. Finally, he rose from being homeless to become a stock market tycoon and eventually as everyone knows he now is a multi-millionaire. From this inspirational movie, I need to choose any four scenes and do analysis based on the six theories, which are social morality, personality virtues, utilitarianism, egoism, the principle of duty and the principle of existentialism. The first scene I chose is when Chris plays basketball with his son. His son says he really likes to play basketball, and wanted to become a famous basketball star. Then, he said to his son, “Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something, not even me.” Scene closes. This dialogue from the scene makes people feel a father’s love, and it is the point impressive people. Based on his dialogue, it is clearly shown that he wants and teaches his son to practice the theory of egoism. It means that, Christopher must take consideration of his self-interest the most in making decision and doing something. Eventually, Chris forgot the theories of personality...

...Chris had lived an amazing life even though it was rather short. Chris was a great friend; he was the kind of friend that stands by you when you need somebody to be there. He will always be remembered as the goofball that brought smiles and laughter to our lives. That’s how Chris made his living and built up his legacy as the laid back loveable guy that can never be replaced in the comedy world and in our hearts. Christopher Crosby Farley was born February 15, 1964 to Tom Sr. and Mary Anne Farley. He graduated from Marquette University in 1986 with major in communications and a minor in theater. After college he went to work at his father Tom Sr’s oil company. But then he found his true calling when he got involved with Chicago’s Second City Theater. Sadly, with a thriving comedic career Chris left us on December 18, from an overdose from his long struggles with his cocaine addiction. Chris’s death was took us all by surprise. I remember when I heard the news I simply could not believe it. Chris was too young; he was taken from us far too soon. Chris was well-loved but had so much life ahead of him and so much he had left to accomplish. I will forever be grateful to have grown up watching Chris be a goofball on stage. I will forever be grateful that Michael was there at the right place and at the right time to save my life. Chris will forever live in my heart… In our hearts. What is it that we remember when we think of Chris? I think everyone who knows him very well would...

...HBR Case Study BY JOHN HUMPHREYS, ZAFAR U. AHMED, AND MILDRED PRYOR World-Class Bull Inspired sales ploy or ethical breach? be kidding me, Sam,” Jeremy sputtered. “Chris brought in the single biggest piece of business we’ve won here in more than two years. He’s our top performer! He broke that logjam with Armadillo! He was absolutely brilliant!” From the window of his 10th-floor office at Specialty Fleet Services, sales vice president Jeremy Silva spied two of the bright yellow repair trucks of Armadillo Gas & Power a block away, flanking a rectangular gash in South Polk near the old Paramount building. Getting Armadillo’s lucrative fleet-management business had been a long, hard slog. Had it not been for the fiendishly clever machinations of sales ninja Christopher Knox (known as “Fort” to his colleagues, because of his golden touch), SFS would still be trying to dent Armadillo’s famously resistant armor. And now, to Jeremy’s amazement, human resources vice president Samantha Williams was informing him that she wanted to reprimand Knox for a breach of the SFS code of ethics. “If ‘brilliant’ is a synonym for ‘devious,’ maybe so,” said Sam, eyebrows raised. Sam was Jeremy’s friend and frequent ally, having helped him push through a reorganization of the sales force, including new incentive and commission structures. But she was also currently the chair of SFS’s ethics review board. “An ethics breach is an ethics breach. As our code states, ‘deceptive...

...it turns out he did not. To me that shows although he broke the law she was willing to do anything for him to protect him. I do believe that television shows impact our views on life and our views on family values. After watching this show I realized that it impacted my view on family values negatively. I would not want my family to be dysfunctional like the Griffin family. They make fun of the eldest daughter in many episodes, the second son Chris does horribly in school and both children to not respect their parents. The parents Peter and Louis love each other and I can see that in episodes and in all of the episodes I have seen they are monogamous to each other so that does show that they are still trying to put some values in the show. The baby Stewie is always trying to kill his mother and they make it seem like it is an ok thing to do. But I would not raise my own children the way that they did in this show. It is not right in anyway in my mind. Being a mother of two young children it is important to teach them at a young age of what...

...Athletes and performance-enhancing drugs Randy Orton (Harris, 2012), Mark McGwire (ESPN, 2014), Chris Benoit (Mongomery, 2007), and even Lance Armstrong (Wilson, 2013) -- what do these four athletes, to name a few, have in common? These athletes made headlines in recent years admitting to drug usage, including drugs that increase performance. When it does come to use of performance enhancing drugs, expect nothing but potholes and detours on your road to success. The one thing that is highly questionable to me is whether or not there are any drugs that can detoxify athletes in a way that buprenorphrine would treat at least the side effects of heroin (NYC Department of Health) like we talked about recently. There are four articles on four different athletes I pulled up that should be able to solve majority of these questions explained here. According to another recent article, drugs were clearly involved in Chris Benoit's double-murder suicide. (Sutton, 2007) What Benoit did was a little bit too graphic for me to explain here and I would rather not go too far into detail. I would personally say that I had seen many physical reactions to drugs. I can only recall as a young boy, aged 6/7, where a boy went out of control and had to get 5 adults to drag him into a time-out room. I asked my teacher at the time if he might have had one pill too many, jokingly, but it seemed confidential. I believe that any psychological reaction to these drugs would have the consumer...

...The garden was overgrown now but it had once been full of life, dearly loved and carefully tended to. Young lovers met there. It was an oasis in the middle of the city. The intoxicating smell of the roses and lavender that grew in this beloved garden covered up the smells of dirty streets and car exhaust. Chris Lemmon was the garden’s caretaker. It had been his job to mulch in the spring, trimming the trees and bushes so new buds could emerge and in the fall he collected the dead and withered leaves and branches that had been disregarded by various plants and trees. He loved the rhythm of the seasons that his job revolved around. His family had taken care of this place for 3 generations. The powerful McAlester family had once owned the property, but feeling intruded on by the various members of plebeian society that found their way into the garden, they decided to give the land to their neighbor, who was Chris’ grandfather. Having done that they retreated farther into the upper branches of society. So high they could not be bothered with small details like garden maintenance. Chris had gone to the garden with his grandfather as a small child and there was taught how to properly care for wild things. The lavender that grew profusely on the small hill behind the washed out wooden bench. The ivy that covered that walls and entangled itself in the power lines above. He even learned to take care of the birds that would find themselves trapped in the little garden shed that was...

Written by Steven Conrad. The music was produced by Andrea Guerra, cinematography was done by Phedon Papamichael. There were many aspects used in the creation of the film to make a lasting impression on the viewers. The development of the film started after Chris Gardner did an interview with 20/20 in January 2002. After the airing of the interview Chris realized the Hollywood potential of his life story due to the overwhelming national response to his story. Chris soon published his autobiography on May 23, 2006 and later meet with an associate producer for the film. The movie was produced with many liberties of Gardner’s true life story. Many details and events that took place over a span of many years was compressed to a shortened time frame for the creating of a film to be played in theaters, the roll of Christopher portrayed as a five year old was being played by eight-year-old Jayden, when in reality Christopher was a toddler. The story of the life of Chris Gardner began in 1981 when working as a salesman he invested his entire life savings him his wife and young son were living on in to the purchase of portable bone density scanners, which...

...Genre The genre of the story Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher is realistic fiction. The definition of realistic fiction means that the story is fictional or did not actually happen but relates and compares to similar situations in everyday life. The novel fits the situation because many people in high school deal with bullying and athletes struggle with competitiveness with other players. For example, one of the main conflicts for T.J. and his teammates is trying to earn the lettermen jacket and that is a typical conflict for many high school athletes aswell. Setting and Mood The story takes place in Cutter High School, Spokane, Washington and All Night Fitness Gym where T.J. and his swim team practice daily. The novel is indirectly stated as a present time setting. The setting of the story gives the reader the feeling of sympathy, trust, joy, sadness, and pride. For example, the reader feels sympathy when he sees Chris Coughlin being shoved into a locker by Mike Barbour for wearing his deceased brother’s lettermen jacket. The reader also feels joy and pride when the zero-to-hero swim team finally earns their lettermen jackets. The story would change dramatically if the setting was different such as, if the story took place in the past, the main conflict wouldn’t be earning a jacket for swimming, it would be for surviving the longest during the Black Plague. Tone The tone of the main character is very confident and wise. In certain situations, such as when T.J....

...JIM LEE When looking at this image I notice that both characters represent some form of power. Jim Lee does this by giving them very upright postures to symbolize dominance and very overdeveloped muscles to really show how much power and force these two characters wield. Jim Lee uses very intense shading to define the muscles and indentations on the bodies. This is effective because it seems as though Jim Lee was trying to create the ideal human in this alternate universe. Jim Lee uses two very different characters to create a very distinct contrast within the image, such as; the dark skies, the gargoyle that they’re standing on , the costumes they’re wearing and the way they’ve positioned their hands. This image is interesting because it shows two sides of the same coin or yin and yang. This is great because both of these characters are very heroic and are always fighting in the name of justice. When looking at this image I feel quite jealous because of how perfect the characters are. Jim Lee has done this by giving them great postures and well defined muscles but most of all I think that being on a rooftop has given them more authority. I like this work because it looks good and it portrays strength and power. Background INFO Lee's artwork quickly gained popularity in the eyes of enthusiastic fans, which allowed him to gain greater creative control of the franchise. In 1991, Lee helped launch a second X-Men series simply called X-Men (volume 2), not only as the...

...which includes sheeting smeared with what she says is her blood, unless she admits it was a hoax. Shvarts has refused to talk to the media, with the exception of a statement in the Yale Daily News, in which she wrote, "for me, the most poignant aspect of this representation … is the impossibility of accurately identifying the resulting blood." According to Shvarts, because it would be unclear if the blood in the work was the result of a miscarriage or her menstrual cycle, the piece is ultimately about the narrative she has constructed. (Doctors have pointed out, however, that blood samples could be tested for pregnancy hormones.) Feminist artists such as Judy Chicago and Ana Mendieta have long used blood as a medium; performance artists (Chris Burden, Marina Abramovic) have manipulated their bodies in the name of...

...Explain how the ideas of the Liberal Democrats influenced Coalition Government Policy During their time in the Coalition Government, the Liberal Democrats have influenced the Coalition Government Policy in many ways. For example, Nick Clegg’s party has influenced the presence of gay marriage to be legal, prevented Michael Gove from introducing a two-tier exam to replace GCSEs, resisted Conservatives’ proposals to completely reform the NHS, cutting out the lowest paid earners of tax, and scrapping the Conservatives’ idea of a ‘Snooper Charter’. Firstly, the Liberal Democrats supported the Conservatives’ idea that those with the lowest personal incomes are to be cut out of income tax, which totals to over 880,000 individuals. This would allow low-earners to be able to live off more, increasing their personal allowance to £10,600, which was a joint effort from both parties, not just the Liberal Democrats. However, the Liberal Democrats have delivered a new 7% stamp duty on homes sold exceeding £2 million, also known as “Mansion tax”. In terms of the healthcare, Nick Clegg’s party has been resistant and successful in delaying the Conservatives proposals to completely restructure the NHS, which would have ended up being privatized, leading to people having to pay to be treated. Home Secretary Theresa May proposed that security services should be given the power to have access to everyone’s phone and email records, social media and internet activity, which would damage civil...

...Case Study Kent State University v. Ford Background In April 2010, Gene Ford signed a 5 years contract which includes a liquidated damages clause with Kent State University to work as a head coach of a basketball team with a total salary of $300,000. The liquidated damages clause state that if Ford quit before the end of the contract, he need to pay a liquidated damages to the school in an amount equal to his salary ($ 300,000) multiplied by the number of years remaining on the contract. However, in March 2011, Ford quit his job at Kent State University and accepted the same position at Bradley University, with a total annual salary of $700,000. After Kent State University recognizes his action, Kent State University sues Ford for the liquidated damages according to the liquidated damages clause in the contract, which had been agreed by both partied. But Ford argued that it is a penalty in order to prevent him from accepting other employment, and it should be unenforceable. Factor to be analyzed In this case, there are several factor need to be analyzed. The first one is whether the damages are uncertain as to the amount and difficult to prove. The court agreed that calculation of the damages resulting from the breach of contract by Ford was very difficult because the departure of the head coach of a basketball team will cause several negative effects. The court also noted that the liquidated damages clause was based on the continued employment of Ford, and the court agreed that...

... I had always planned on getting a pet while in college. But I didn’t exactly know which one. I knew I wanted something easy to take care of and vent to when things weren’t going exactly as I had planned. That’s when I went online to look up facts about various pets. My research showed that a betta fish was a super easy and fun fish to take care of. Right away I knew I wanted a baby betta fish. I looked towards my boyfriend and told him how a little betta fish would be the perfect pet for us. He didn’t seem too enthusiastic and turned out to be a very practical guy during that moment and asked me tons of questions before deciding to go along with me to PetsSmart. On the way there, I couldn’t help but scroll through my Pinterest to find the coolest decked out Betta fish tanks. I knew I wanted a themed fish tank for my little Betta. Soon as we entered I ran straight toward the Betta fish area to pick out a fish. Each fish was kept in a small two-cup jar. They all looked motionless and almost as if they were dead. My boyfriend mentioned that these Bettas probably weren’t taken care of well at the pet store. At least here I was rescuing one of them I thought to myself. I decided to pick the fish that looked the healthiest and immediately moved when I touched his jar. He was a beautiful red and blue veil tail male Betta with green scales. Picking out the fish happened rather quickly. Next came picking out his new home, food and other accessories. I consulted a fish specialist at...
