...Christian Art is an entryway into the artist’s emotions, dedication, and sacrifice, displaying their devotion and love for God. During the Middles Ages, artist expressed their feelings through paintings, mosaics, and sculptures. The rich colors, beautiful architecture, and carefully carved statues are just a few reasons Christian Art is important to the Gospel today. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith (Romans, 12:6). From the minute we start attending Sunday school, we are taught the stories of David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, and Jonas and the Whale. However, the crucifixion of Jesus is a hard story to endure, due to the reprehensible and inhuman beating and humiliation Jesus suffered. As a reminder of God’s love for us, he gave his only son Jesus as a payment for the sins of all his children. Would we appreciate Christianity in the same manner if this wicked act had not taken place? The crucifixion of Jesus is one of the most important parts of the Bible. The torcher Jesus encountered on our behalf demonstrates the love and devotion our Lord has for each and every one of us....

The Getty Center (Santa Monica) or Getty Villa (Malibu) • getty.edu for info. The assignment is to write an expository essay that focuses on an interpretation of one artwork using a specific symbol or theme (see examples below). Your interpretation must include an analysis of the subject & style of artwork in relation to the function of the object, as we do in class. (Remember the 4 Steps of Interpretation). Also, you should identify the style characteristics of the period-culture to which it belongs. In the paper you will provide “proof” for identifying style and/or meaning by comparing it to objects in your textbook. This assignment is NOT a “report.” That is, you will not find much information about the artwork at the museum. The point of this paper is to interpret the object based on similarities to other objects that are more “known.” Your interpretation should be made primarily of your own observations in relation to the information provided by the textbook and research you conduct about the artworks’ style, symbolism, cultural context, etc. You must support your observations with facts. Also you must properly cite your sources of information in a works cited list. Consult the articles on writing available on our MyECC teamsite in the Writing Resources folder. Examples of Symbols: sun, moon, star, flower, halo, cross, tree, horn, offering...

...inclined towards expression through many artistic media. Early art mainly focused on expressing the form of humanity, rather than the emotions and thought that make us human beings. When art, specifically sculpture, shifted towards what we know as the modern movement, it was somewhat shunned, or touted as being inferior to traditionalist styles. My research paper will focus specifically on the difference between modern and traditional styles of art, the dynamic between them, and how both styles contributed to how we view art today, as well as the vilification of modern art in the eyes of the art world. My interest in this topic mainly stems from my own personal interest in art, because it’s what i want to...

...Experience Paper A visit to the Cloisters Museum The Creative Voice Experience. Practical contact. Observation of facts. We live in a “soft” world where the greater percentage of the arts are viewed through some type of electronic device with a screen and usually muddled with banners of advertisements or endorsements. We view static images on screens where texture and brush strokes could never be appreciated. We watch videos of classic Shakespearian plays devoid of the elements and senses of a live performance. True experience cannot be had remotely. Experience MUST be experienced! I decided to visit the Cloisters Museum and Gardens to reach outside my comfort zone and visit a place that I not only have never been to, but had also never heard of. The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that focuses on the art and architecture of medieval Europe. The museum is located in northern Manhattan and overlooks the Hudson River. That particular day was fairly warm with light rain. Upon entry into the museum my initial reaction was how cold and damp it was in comparison to the day. Because I had not been there before, I was initially most impressed with the structure more than the art itself. It is clear that people have gone to great lengths to recreate a structure that incorporates all of the elements of medieval times. I am by no means a historian and as a result I am usually stricken by something that appeals to me visually over its historical relevance...

...TATTOOS I t seems like everyone has tattoo these days. And it's not just anchors, skulls, and battleships. People have found many ways to express themselves with their tattoos. Tattoos are a form of body art, and like all art, some like them and some don't. Nowadays, elderly have bad impression about people with tattoo. As we see today even women are having tattoos. The purpose I choose this topic is to explain that tattoo is an art. THE HISTORY OF TATTOOS History shows that tattooing has existed since 12,000 years BC. The purpose of tattooing has varies from culture to culture and its place on the time line In Borneo, a woman’s particular skill is indicated when they tattooed their symbols on their forearm. Throughout history tattoos have signified membership in a clan or society. For an example, Hells Angels tattoo their particular group symbol. It has been believed that the wearer of an image calls the spirit of that image. The ferocity of a tiger would belong to the tattooed person. That tradition holds true today shown by the proliferation of images of tigers, snakes, and bird of prey. Egypt is the place where earliest tattoos can be found during the time of the construction of the great pyramids. As they expanded their empire, the art of tattooing spread as well. Around 2000 BC tattooing spread to China. Tattoo was used for the communication among spies in Greek. Romans marked criminals and slaves. This practice is still carried on today. The social status is showed...
