Chronic Disease

Diabetes is the chronic disease I have chosen to write about. Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when your pancreas does not produce enough insulin to convert the sugar you eat into energy for your body. Your pancreas secretes insulin which converts the sugar in your body into energy. If your pancreas does not excrete enough insulin you are a type one diabetic. Type two diabetics do not have enough insulin or the insulin is bad and does not do its job. When you have too much sugar in your body that is not being converted into energy, you are a diabetic. Type one diabetics usually take insulin, through injections to help boost the insulin level in your body. Type two diabetics usually take oral medications to help control their sugar intake and make their insulin more effective.

Risk factors for diabetes mainly falls into three catagories. The first category that a person has no control over and generally results in type two diabetes is genetics. If you have people in your immediate family who have diabetes, you have a great risk factor for developing the disease. The other two factors are ones that can be controlled and include lifestyle and being overweight. If your lifestyle is one of eating all the wrong foods, such as high fat foods, to many carbohydrates and high sugar foods, you are at a greater risk. If you have uncontrolled stress and are not very active, these factors can all contribute to the risk of becoming a type two diabetic.

There are many lifestyle choices that you can make to lower your risk of becoming a diabetic. You should eat a balanced, healthy diet. Include vegetables, any vegetable that are colorful are generally very good for you. Do not overindulge in sweet foods such as candy and cake, or desserts in general. Limit your carbohydrate intake, foods such as breads and pasta turn into sugar in your body.

The clinical manifestations of CKD affect the entire body system, called uremia. This is caused by the build up and retention of waste products such as; urea, creatinine, phenol, hormones, electrolytes, and water. This can cause hypervolemia, peripheral edema, hyperphosphatemia, hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, metabolic acidosis, anemia, and peripheral neuropathy.
