...Competitive Intelligence Term Paper Dr. Ahmed Nassar Prepared by Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed El Mizayen 1. What is CI? he process of collecting and analyzing information about competitors’ strengths and weaknesses in a legal and ethical manner to enhance business decision-making. Competitive intelligence activities can be basically grouped into two main types – 1) Tactical, which is shorter-term and seeks to provide input into issues such as capturing market share or increasing revenues; and 2) Strategic, which focuses on longer-term issues such as key risks and opportunities facing the enterprise. Competitive intelligence is different from corporate or industrial espionage, which use illegal and unethical methods to gain an unfair competitive advantage. Competitive intelligence means different things to different people within an organization. For example, to a sales representative, it may mean tactical advice on how best to bid for a lucrative contract. To top management, it may mean unique marketing insights to gain market share against a formidable competitor. The ultimate end goal of competitive intelligence is to help make better decisions and enhance organizational performance. While most companies can find substantial information about their competitors online, competitive intelligence goes way beyond merely trawling the Internet, on the premise that the most valuable information is seldom – if ever – easily accessible online. A typical competitive intelligence...

...of fuel injection strategies on the performance and Emissions in HCCI engine Name: Institution: Keywords: HCCI engine, Fuel injection strategies, performance, emissions Introduction. Internal combustion (IC) engines have a wide range of application; therefore, reduction of emissions levels is an important design consideration [1]. Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is as an attractive alternative that offers various advantages in internal combustion engines including the potential for significant reduction in PM and NOx as well as increased diesel efficiencies [2-4]. The HCCI technique involves the compression of a homogeneous mixture of fuel and air until auto-ignition occurs followed by Combustion that is considerably faster than Spark Ignition (SI) combustion [6]. The HCCI’s engine performance (including brake thermal efficiency, combustion phasing and emissions levels) is commonly predicted using numerical methods. Hairuddin et al [5] discuss the various strategies used in numerical method (such as multi zone and single zone models turbulence model and mixing model) and injection methods of predicting performance among other issues related to the HCCI engine. Various studies have shown that the can improve the thermal efficiency of the engine while simultaneously maintaining low levels of emissions and that HCCI technology can be realized by modifying either CI or SI engines using several fuel combinations [7,8]. In HCCI the fuel/air mixture...

...Intelligence Collection XII. What Resources Are Used to Collect Information XIII. How Companies Utilized Collected Information XIV. Keeping Companies Secrets Secret a. Buildings b. Communication Systems c. Administrative XV. Conclusion I. ABSTRACT Intelligence gathering is considered commonplace in corporate America. Companies struggle to maintain the high ground within a competitive marketplace. One source for maintaining an elevated position is through information gathering on competitors, better known as Competitive Intelligence (CI). Collection of this information can be accomplished through numerous means. History has shown that the collection of CI is not a new practice, only that the methods used to collect the information have evolved over the past century. Intense pressure for turning profits, winning contracts, and avoiding expensive research and development costs drive the methods used in CI collection. With an increase in CI collection, companies are required to protect themselves from inside and outside intruders. II. PROBLEM STATEMENT Corporate America has become oblivious to the information being divulged concerning company trade secrets. Corporate intelligence or company espionage has become an all to commonplace art form. Due to increase pressure to meet production quotas, new product markets, and an increase in stockholder wealth, corporations have changed into a “win at all costs” approach towards business. This organizational behavioral change...

...led me to start few self-initiated research projects. Presently, I am involved in two research projects. The first research topic on which I also presented a seminar is titled “Theoretical Analysis of the Performance of Exhaust Gas driven Vapour Absorption Refrigeration System for Automobile Air Conditioning”. My research guide, Dr. Rajesh Patel being impressed by my efforts advised me to continue this research for my final year dissertation. In this project, I intend to substitute Vapour Compression Refrigeration System (VCRS) used for air conditioning in automobiles with Vapour Absorption Refrigeration System (VARS) which will provide better fuel economy by increasing engine efficiency.I prepared a MATLAB code to procure the optimum operating conditions for a given set of parameters. Under my leadership, my team worked out the sizing of each component and performed exergy analysis using the Engineering Equation Solver. Having obtained these results I designed a customized VARS system using the SolidWorks design software. Apart from providing a deep insight into concepts of Heat Transfer and Air Conditioning this project also aided me in achieving expertise in using several engineering software. Currently I am drafting a research paper on the same topic. My second ongoing research project deals with modifying the design of connecting rod of Combustion Ignition (CI) engines to increase combustion efficiency which will lead to increased engine efficiency. In this project, I intend...

...INTRODUCTION 1.1 History of IC Engines: The machines that produce power or energy are called engines. The engines work as prime movers meaning “producers of motion”. There are other machines which are run by prime movers. Engines have become well known these days because of widespread popularity of automobile – the cars, trucks, buses and motor cycles are machines that are used for transport almost by everybody and everywhere. Doubtless no other engineering wonder can claim such wider use and engines provide the power for automobile. There are of course other uses of these engines also. Engines in general are reciprocating and rotary, the latter are commonly recognized as turbines, though there are some which are not turbine. An engine which was first introduced perhaps used a hot air which expanded on top of a piston. It was steam at high pressure which was then used against the piston which was pushed and moved in a cylinder linearly. The engine piston was connected to a crank through connecting rod caused the crank to rotate about its axis. Thus rotary motion is generated. An engine would definitely need an expanding medium which will push the piston when expanding. The expanding medium will have to be at higher temperature and pressure. The heat required for increasing the temperature and pressure of expanding medium can be given to the medium outside the cylinder in which the piston moves. In such a case the engine is called external combustion...

Viability of Product or Service The Company (called TC for easy referencing) is a new start-up that is the off-shoot of an existing Construction Company (referenced as CC). The original company has been in business for over 15 years, and the owner (Stan), is a sole proprietor, operating with one to two employees, a part-time bookkeeper, and subcontractors as needed. TC is a limited partnership between Stan and another person, Don. Currently Stan has the controlling share of the company as he is providing the knowledge, reputation, funding, and sub-contractors. Don is working on the marketing and proposal side of the company with his main purpose being to bring in customers. TC has been incorporated for less than a year as of September 2012. At this time TC has totally out paced it parent company as far as employee growth goes. They employ three estimators, two general contractors / site supervisors, a part-time bookkeeper, a part-time office manager, Stan (as a profit share), and Don. They also bring in numerous subcontractors for each job. TC has growth has been quite amazing, they started out with one project that took over six months to negotiate and another three before a deposit was made, and now have multiple projects finished, and more on the way. TC is currently working on five different projects and has another three scheduled to start in...

...An Extended Entity-Relationship Model for Geographic Applications * Thanasis Hadzilacos Computer Technology Institute, University of Patras Box 1122, GR-26110, Patras, Greece thh@cti.gr Nectaria Tryfona National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis Univ. of Maine, Orono, ME 04469-5711, U.S.A nectaria@spatial.maine.edu Abstract. A special-purpose extension of the EntityRelationship model for the needs of conceptual modeling of geographic applications, called the Geo-ER Model, is presented. Handling properties associated to objects not because of the objects’ nature but because of the objects’ position, calls for dealing -at the semantic modeling levelwith space, location and dimensionality of objects, spatial relationships, space-depending attributes, and scale and generalization of representations. In order to accomplish this in the framework of ER and its derivatives, we introduce special entity sets, relationships, and add new constructs. The rationale as well as examples of usage of the Geo-ER model from actual projects are presented. 1. Introduction Is everybody special or are we all alike? Should we develop applications according to a special methodology for each class of applications, such as medical, business process and geographic, or should we use a single blanket approach for all? Personal preferences and philosophical discussions aside, it does seem that the general purpose side has won most battles in computer science, from hardware to programming languages...

Saleem Khan, Fareeha Zafar Abstract— This research paper describes the design and implementation of an autonomous room air cooler using fuzzy rule based control system. The rule base receives two crisp input values from temperature and humidity sensors, divides the universe of discourse into regions with each region containing two fuzzy variables, fires the rules, and gives the output singleton values corresponding to each output variable. Three defuzzifiers are used to control the actuators; cooler fan, water pump and room exhaust fan. The results obtained from the simulation were found correct according to the design model. This research work will increase the capability of fuzzy logic control systems in process automation with potential benefits. MATLAB-simulation is used to achieve the designed goal. Index Terms— Fuzzy Logic Control, Inference Engine, MATLAB simulation and Rule Selection. —————————— —————————— 1 INTRODUCTION ODERN processing systems are heavily dependent on automatic control systems. UA&F Low Energy Laser as a Treatment for Refractory Diabetic Leg and Foot Ulcers ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Diabetic leg and foot ulcers often lead to immobility, infection, and amputation, cost $7,000 to $40,000 per ulcer, and erode mental health and QOL. Lasers have been effectively utilized in medicine since the 60’s, from various surgical uses to the treatment of diseases. Although low-energy (also called low-power, low-level, and cold) laser therapy for “biostimulation” (or biomodulation) of ulcer healing has been studied extensively, quality data on diabetic wound healing is rare. This review seeks...
