Cindy Waters Case Summary

I chose to write my case study over statements against Cindy Waters made by Cheryl Churchill. Churchill worked as an obstetric nurse at a local hospital in Illinois and was talking to another nurse interested in transferring to the obstetrics unit. Churchill discussed practices that were recently implemented by Waters and referred to personal issues between the two. Another nurse overheard the conversation and immediately reported it to Cindy Waters. Cheryl was fired from her job after this occurred. I am interested in this case because it made a huge impact on how hospitals handle situations today and it provides a better understanding of what is appropriate to say while on the job. I plan to use a handful of relevant sources to explore this

Within a clinical setting an important aspect of spiritual care is enabling participation in religious observation, where desired. This article reveals the authors and Christianity’s perspective in comparison with the Buddhist, Muslim, and Hindu faiths approaches to healing. Cultural and spiritual diversity must be embraced in the healthcare setting in order to provide holistic healing. Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity Spirituality is part of the human experience that is difficult to comprehend.  Each person embraces their spirituality in their own manner.  Spirituality is multidimensional and there is evidence that it plays a beneficial role in medical care and healing. Individuals derive this spirituality through their relationship with their families, themselves, and their faith experience (Anandarajah & Hight, 2001). Taming the Dragon - the Paradox of the Three Gorges Dam

...Taming the Dragon The Paradox of The Three Gorges Dam CHE 546 Economics, Environment and Ecology Stuart School of Business, IIT Executive Summary The title of this paper is Taming the Dragon – The Paradox of the Three Gorges Dam. I chose this title because as I researched this topic, I realized that almost everything about the Three Gorges Dam is a paradox, beginning with the reason it was planned, designed and constructed in the first place. The primary paradox of the Three Gorges Dam is that in its quest to make life better for the country and people of China, the dam also made things unbelievably and irrevocably worse on a number of levels. For centuries, China has depended on the Yangtze River. The river travels south from high in the Himalayas and then east toward the Pacific Ocean. The beauty of the pure water from the melting glacier at its source will turn into a ravaging, murderous river that robs people of their homes, food, livelihoods and even their loved ones and their own lives. Another paradox of the Three Gorges Dam is that it is an enormous monument of industrialization. It is more than a way to control water levels, protecting people from uncontrollable storm water. It is a symbol of China’s commitment to its future. Abundant, clean energy. There are those who argue that the resulting damage of the dam project is worse than the damage the river produces when it’s out of control – essentially the cure is worse than the...

You can have the best strategy in the world, but if you don’t have effective execution by people, it’s going to fail. — Harris DeLoach, Sonoco CEO In order to make progress, we had to somehow decide what things were going to be the same across the company and what things could be or needed to be different to support the businesses. There was a balance that we needed to figure out. — Cindy Hartley, Senior VP, Human Resources It was late August 2000. Cindy Hartley, senior vice president of human resources (HR) at Sonoco, a 100-year-old global provider of industrial and consumer packaging and related services, was meeting with five members of her reorganization task force comprising the heads of employee relations and organizational development, the company’s chief labor attorney, and two key divisional HR directors. Looking to cut costs across the company, the company’s newly appointed CEO had asked Hartley to come up with at least two potential new HR structures that would reduce the function’s costs by 20%, or $2.8 million. But there were other equally pressing reasons for the reorganization. Number one was to ensure top-level accountability for talent management and upgrading. The second reason was to provide...

Krispy Kreme

...Krispy Kreme Case Study FINA 470-01 Strategic Financial Management Company Overview: Krispy Kreme is a retailer and wholesaler of “high quality doughnuts and packaged sweets” (2010 10-K report) as well as various beverages. Krispy Kreme consists of stores and franchises that include domestic and international franchises, company stores and the KK Supply Chain. Krispy Kreme is also the sole provider to all their stores and franchises of the ingredients and equipment needed for store operations via the KK Supply Chain. Notably, neither equipment nor ingredients can be purchased from any other vendor and thus the franchises/stores are completely dependent upon Krispy Kreme. Vernon Rudolph acquired the Krispy Kreme recipe from a New Orleans chef and moved to Nashville and opened his own doughnut shop in 1937. Initially selling to grocery stores, he ended up cutting a hole in the building to sell to passersby who inquired about buying hot donuts directly from the bakery. Mr. Rudolph patented Krispy Kreme in 1939. Family members joined the bakery to help Rudolph meet rising demand for his doughnuts. Rudolph invented and built all his donut making equipment. To date, the company still uses only company made equipment. Other stores started popping up around the south in the 1950s and 1960s as the company quickly expanded. Rudolph died in 1973 and as the company began to flounder, it was sold to Beatrice Foods in 1976. Original franchisees repurchased the company...
