Circle of Influence
Building a circle of influence is an essential tool in growing into a leader and life changer. My interpretation of circle of influence = positive energy. When you have a team of positive people in your life at school, home, work and within your family and friends… It contributes to not only a healthier lifestyle, but a lifestyle of purpose. There is nothing like going through this world knowing who you are, what you want, where you are going and having a support system to see you through.
What captured my attention with this article is the tagline paraphrased: The key element to building a circle of influence starts with trust. You have to first trust God. God centers you around people, places, things and situations to put you in position for what he has in store for you. Even when the going gets rough, you still have to trust that if God brings you to it, he will bring you through it.
Secondly, you have to trust yourself, you have to trust the intuition that God gave you and you also have to trust your judgment, by using discernment. When you trust yourself, you tend to go first, with your gut. Usually, if something doesn’t seem right, it usually isn’t. However, I believe that everyone deserves a 1st and 2nd chance.
The article continues is a professional advertisement for a sales coach. He stated that leadership is failing for lack of trust. He stated that most leaders say what people want to hear, instead of how what they truly stand for. He stated that in order to be an effective leader, you must first identify what your core values and strengths are and begin to develop them. Sticking to your core values and living them out is what builds trust as an individual and as a company.
Much like the life-changing mission statement in the text, it’s about making a decision first. Once you have stated your purpose, next is following it through. The story in the text about John Wesley is beautiful. He made a decision to love God and serve people, and he made a life of doing just that. I love his story, because I too have a passion for people and spreading love to all.
The more you grow as a leader; the more of an influence you become; in a positive way. The people, places and things around you will also start to change. It all starts with trust, and trust has to be earned. A line of trust is just as grand as a line of credit. It can be the bind the builds or break an individual, a home, a church and a corporation, definitely essential to building a circle of influence.

Circle Of Influence Research Paper

...are responsible for our own life. In particular, each person has both a circle of influence and a circle of concern. Worrying endlessly about things outside of our circle of influence isn't particularly productive. Working within our circle of influence is productive. The emphasis of this habit is to do whatever is in our power to improve our situation. “You are the creator, the actor and the doer in your life; get started and "just do it”,” covey said. In the word , Proactive people focus their efforts in the Circle of Influence. They work on the things they can do something about. The nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying, causing their Circle of Influence to increase. Reactive people, on the other hand, focus their efforts in the Circle of Concern. They focus on the weakness of other people, the problems in the environment, and circumstances over which they have no control. Their focus results in blaming and accusing attitudes, reactive language, and increased feelings of victimization....

Four Circles Model

...Four Circles Model Bryan Dunlap EDA 561 Grand Canyon University March 30, 2016 It seems that in the world of education today “accountability” is the latest buzz word to embed itself deep into America’ lexicon. Accountability is used by parents, community members and other stakeholders as an instrument to raise expectations for schools and educators to an extremely high; sometimes unrealistic, levels of achievement. It has also become a weapon wielded by lawmakers and politicians at the state and national levels to levy punitive actions and sanctions to schools that are not meeting their levels of expectations; branding them with a “Scarlet F” if students are not scoring well on standardized tests. While high test scores, continuous improvement, student achievement and teacher/student accountability are things that all schools and district should strive for, there are certainly beneficial ways, as well as destructive means, to attaining such favorable results without harming the school’s most precious resource – students. Effective school administrators are constantly seeking opportunities to improve within their school and in each classroom. There are numerous tools and strategies that administrators and school leaders can implement that will aid in identifying obstacles and providing solutions to improve student success. One such tool is the Four Circles Model outlined by Charlotte Danielson. The Four Circles Model allows administrators...

Select Two “Employee Voice” Practices, One an Example of Representative Participation and the Second an Example of Direct Employee Involvement, and Assess the Strengths and Weaknesses of Each in Terms of Their Value to the Employee.

...result the presence of a works council today is a very common method of representative participation. The term "works council" applies to any body that represents the interests of employees, which an employer must inform and consult with on issues affecting their organisation. Providing a works council initiates formal employee representation at workplace level to facilitate consultation and discussion of enterprise related issues between workers and management, but to what extent is a works council of value to the employee? Strengths of Works Council for employees One of the more significant strengths of a works council would be its level of scope and depth of issues it has influence over. As a works council is a joint venture between employer and employee, this gives the employee more influence over talked about issues. Ultimately making the issues less operational and more beneficial to the worker (e.g. pay, employment T&C’s). As an individual an employee could face problems in the work place that...

Gestalt Psychology

...Influences of Gestalt psychology were Immanuel Kant’s study on the focuses of perception as a whole, Ernst Mach’s influence of sensation thinking, and Christin von Ehrenfel’s further exploration and experimentation on Mach’s sensations theory. Max Wertheimer studied Ehrenfel’s work and used it as the bass for his movement of the Gestalt theory. In addition, the two other founders of Gestalt psychology, Kurt Koffka and Wolfgang Kohler, studied elements of consciousness and artificial abstractions that furthered Gestalt research and movement. “After Wertheimer initiated the studies on the perception of apparent movement, Gestalt psychologists seized on other perceptual phenomena. The experience of perceptual constancies afforded additional support for their views” (Schultz, 2011, p. 271). The idea of perceptual constancy is having completeness and or wholeness not very even if information is missing. Gestalt psychology is theory of the mind being so complex and dynamic that sensory elements such as vision and sound interact in order to fill in missing information that is perceived by an individual who is perceiving the information given. The founders of Gestalt psychology explain perceptual and a few defining principles. The first law is similarity, meaning items are perceived as being together such as forming a group. For example, if an individual were to see a group of squares and circles the law similarity would allow the individual to group the squares and circles separately...

...“scores”, which are representations of the creative, design and decision making processes. Thus, “scores” are very indispensable in the entire RSVP circle. In these two selected articles, Halprin thinks scores are the key link in the entire RSVP circle. I believe this is correct because scores directly influence the final design and decisions and also encourage public participation before the performance is fixed. In the entire RSVP circle, the “score” is ideally a collective process of “doing”, which is also the design or decision making process. Scores describe the processes leading to performance, which is an instruction for the work, such as the master plan in landscape. Scores can be used as a means of communication tool, such as the words or plans. Scores can be the means of control, such as a set of construction documents. In the phase of the “score,” all of us can be involved in the decision making process. For example, there are typically public comments made during the development of landscape master plans. Landscape master plans can be considered as a “score” and are typically the outcome of a standardized “design process”. The standard rational design process is a step-by-step method that considers the environmental constrains, opportunities, client goals, and the principles of design. This process directly influences the final decision and can be considered as a “score.” However, Halprin’s idea of scores rely on greater public participation than is typical...

Transferable Skills Inventory Paper

...Introduction Reminiscing at the first week of this class, we completed an assignment that tested each students’ strengths and weaknesses. The Transferable Skills Inventory (TSI) is acquired expertise from experience. The purpose of taking the TSI test is to recognize areas of improvement and then apply it in the workplace. This week, I will be discussing Convey, and one of his strategies that helped me develop my overarching question throughout the past seven weeks. Further, I will explain the relevance of the proactive approach in the circle of influence as a healthy individual. Briefly summary of chosen habit The problem I will be addressing relates to the direct control of the Circle of Influence. As Convey stated, “Proactive people concentrate their efforts in the Circle of Influence. They work on the things they can do anything about. The nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying, causing their Circle of Influence to increase (p.83).” Proactive people use a specific language by saying I will do, I can do better than that, I will start the project (self-initiated), and I will take care of my health. In other words, proactive people manage...

7 Habits Summary

...book I find it handy to find a quality summary online. I decided that I would write a quality 7 habits of highly effective people summary for you to enjoy and review often to refresh your memory on the concepts in this timeless classic. Here is my own personal 7 habits of highly effective people summary for everyone to enjoy: Habit 1: Be proactive – True change starts from within us. Highly effective people are proactive and focus on the things they are able to influence. Steven Covey describes this as operating within our circle of influence. Here is a useful diagram to illustrate this point: There are 2 mindsets according to the book. The circle of concern and the circle of influence. We can’t control what is in our circle of concern. The circle of influence on the other hand is comprised of the things in our lives in which we can change. What the author advocates doing is to operate within our circle influence and smile and accept the things in our circle of concern. As a result we focus on what we can influence in our lives rather that reacting to circumstances and events. This is habit one in becoming a highly effective person. Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind – This habit is referred to as the habit of personal management. In this chapter covey discusses developing a personal...

Habit 1

...Books The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Habit 1 : Be Proactive Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results. Habit 1: Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. You can't keep blaming everything on your parents or grandparents. Proactive people recognize that they are "response-able." They don't blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. They know they choose their behavior. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their physical environment. They find external sources to blame for their behavior. If the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn't, it affects their attitude and performance, and they blame the weather. All of these external forces act as stimuli that we respond to. Between the stimulus and the response is your greatest power--you have the freedom to choose your response. One of the most important things you choose is what you say. Your language is a good indicator of how you see yourself. A proactive person uses proactive language--I can, I will, I prefer...

A Vehicle for Freedom

...Imagination isn’t always accompanied with exciting declarations of present or future settings. In actuality, imagination could be stationary in form whenever dealing with ideas and can hinder us from any possible exploitation by making the visual perception simply more beautiful, or even partially transform it. I often wondered why this passive guidance is so full of variety, just like convenient tools are located inside our uneasiness, therefore manifesting as an “object of thought” that can serve more than just abstract ideals. Time feels going by anytime this futuristic sense sways away from the daily routine and into a perception of genuine time loss. Perhaps it is the ordinary people’s standing that gently imprints a concept of freedom and social standing, inevitably associating a sense of passive limitation that needs to accompany such a journey. Certainly, the proactive requirement that comes along with such intermediate packaging consists of letting go of personal confrontations via constructing deviations of new ideas and using the natural course of events as a stand-by for an effective focus on progressing in a timely fashion. However, progressing through time might also mean dealing with ideas that are small or fast enough to leave no room for deviant fluxes of thoughts and therefore considered as a kind of instinct-based mannerism. Needless to say, in order to retain the “new idea” status, you also need impartiality infused with a new momentum and a potential for abstracting...

Four Circles Model

...The Four Circles Model The Four Circles Model Merriam-Webster defines belief as the acceptance or assurance that something is true. Belief takes faith, because sometimes there is no evidence to support what a person believes. In every successful career you will find someone who first believed; in every successful career that was challenging, you will find someone who had faith. This paper will focus on the Four Circles Model that is founded on what a person believes. It will identify how the Four Circles Model is reflected in my present school, recognize improvements in each of the areas, and how curriculum changes can affect those improvements. The Four Circles Model The Four Circles Model is made up of four segments: what we believe, what we want, what we know, and what we do. The first section, what we believe, is one of the most important sections because of the influence that it has on the other three sections. What we believe as educators can determine what we want for our schools and students; what we know can influence what we believe, and they all ultimately end up influencing what we end up doing. At Edward W. Bok Academy, the Four Circles Model is evident in the school’s culture. Beginning with the first segment of the Four Circles Model (what we believe) we believe that all students have the right to education and ensuring high-level learning is ingrained in our system. Once you enter Bok Academy’s campus, it is obvious what we want to accomplish...
