1. Question :
(TCO 3) You have an office that is less than 100 meters from end to end. You need about 80 office PCs that need connectivity to printers and the Internet. You need about five PCs that will transfer large graphics files. Yes, this question is somewhat vague because no specific data transfer rates are given. You can state your own assumptions. What are some transmission methods, networking media, and networking hardware that could be used? Compare and contrast different approaches.
Student Answer: Instructor Explanation: Answers may vary. Refer to (Transmission Basics and Networking Media) and (Networking Hardware). They should recognize the increased speed needed for large graphics files. They should prefer switches over hubs. Points Received: 0 of 20 Comments:

Question 2. Question :
(TCO 8) Your company is creating a sophisticated application that needs to transmit data across the Internet. You have decided that the best approach is to use TCP over UDP. Compare and contrast the use of TCP and UDP and why TCP is better. You can make up the requirements of the application as you see fit.

Student Answer: TCP- TCP is a connection-oriented protocol. As a message makes its way across the internet from one computer to another. This is connection based. TCP is suited for applications that require high reliability, and transmission time is relatively less critical. UDP is a connection-less protocol. UDP is also a protocol used in message transport or transfer. This is not connection based which means that one program can send a load of packets to another and that would be the end of the relationship. UDP is suitable for applications that need fast, efficient transmission, such as games. UDP's stateless nature is also useful for servers that answer small queries from huge numbers of clients. TCP-Data is read as a byte stream, no distinguishing indications are transmitted to signal message (segment) boundaries. UDP-Packets are sent individually and are checked for integrity only if they arrive. Packets have definite boundaries which are honored upon receipt, meaning a read operation at the receiver socket will yield an entire message as it was originally sent. Instructor Explanation: Basically it is a comparison of connection-oriented, reliable TCP versus connectionless, unreliable UDP. (See Chapter 6.) Points Received: 20 of 20 Comments:

Question 3. Question :
(TCO 13) Briefly describe the term remote virtual computing.

Student Answer: In computing, Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the Remote Frame Buffer protocol (RFB) to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.[1] VNC is platform-independent There are clients and servers for many GUI-based operating systems and for Java. Multiple clients may connect to a VNC server at the same time. Popular uses for this technology include remote technical support and accessing files on one's work computer from one's home computer, or vice versa. Instructor Explanation: Remote virtual computing allows a user on one computer, called the client, to control another computer, called the host or server, across a network connection. Points Received: 10 of 10 Comments:

Question 4. Question :
