After discussing different definitions of corporate image, concluding remarks are made. The authors of this article discuss the topicality of corporate image management subsequently and name the factors that form corporate image, laying out the basis to manage particular factors. The first two parts of this paper provide a theoretical basis for further discussion. The third part of this article outlines insights for causality between corporate social responsibility and corporate image as well as links between the two. To the extent that happiness is a measure of well-being,1 then competition and happiness should be positively associated. First, competition creates positive incentives for producers to boost technological progress, improve efficiency and optimize resource allocation, thus improving social welfare. Additionally, competition should improve consumers’ wellbeing by putting downward pressure on prices because consumers, for equal quality, should have more opportunities to buy cheaper products, kicking inefficient suppliers out of the market.2 Non-competitive structures, such as oligopoly, may not survive due to the incentives to free ride supply agreements (e.g. cartels). On the other hand, Monopolists, who charge higher prices and produce less than the optimal quantity of product, are threatened by governments when the latter show credible intentions to approve laws to deregulate and liberalize production and factor markets. Among various cryptographic schemes, CBC-based MACs belong to the few ones most widely used in practice. Such MACs iterate a blockcipher EK in the so called Cipher-Block-Chaining way, i.e. Ci = EK (Mi ⊕ Ci−1 ) , offering high efficiency in practical applications. In the paper, we propose a new deterministic variant of CBC-based MACs that is provably secure beyond the birthday bound. The new MAC 3kf9 is obtained by combining f 9 (3GPP-MAC) and EMAC sharing the same internal structure, and so it is almost as efficient as the original CBC 3 3 q lq MAC. 3kf9 offers O( l22n + 2n ) PRF-security when its underlying n-bit blockcipher is pseudorandom with three independent keys. This makes it more secure than traditional CBC-based MACs, especially when they are applied with lightweight blockciphers. Though equally important in practice, the selection problem for a fixed-income portfolio of corporate and government bonds, industrial loans and credit derivatives, is less well-understood. The fixed-income portfolio problem presents unique challenges: the risk of issuer default induces skewed return distributions, the correlation of defaults influences the tail of the portfolio return distribution, and credit derivative positions have complex risk/return implications. This paper addresses the static selection problem for a fixed-income portfolio. We optimize the total mark-to-market value of the portfolio at the investment horizon. This value incorporates the intermediate premium and default cash flows of long and short cash and derivative positions, and the survival-contingent market value of these positions at the horizon. The selection problem is cast as a polynomial goal program that involves a two-stage constrained optimization of preference weighted moments of the portfolio mark-to-market. The decision variable is the vector of contract notionals. A capital constraint guarantees the solvency of the investor. ABC simulates the intelligent foraging behaviour of a honeybee swarm. In this work, ABC is used for optimizing a large set of numerical test functions and the results produced by ABC algorithm are compared with the results obtained by genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization algorithm, differential evolution algorithm and evolution strategies.
