Why the fifth point, “Meet information requirements of management”, is in the CIO’s list
“Society is bombarded with data”( Scams & Fraud, 2012). Often so much information is received and as a result we feel overloaded! There's e-mail, web processing, instant messaging, voice mails, and a myriad of other means of communication that are constantly streamed to us daily. Dealing with the organization and management of information can be frustrating and make us want to pull our hair out, but nonetheless, it must be given serious attention. Businesses are driven by data, and the information derived from data is an extremely valuable asset in today's environment and most organizations are dependent on its availability and accuracy. The electronic age has brought new challenges in managing information that previously was non-existent prior to computers and the Internet. While technology has generated higher efficiency, access, and integrity with the newer ways to organize and manage information, it can be overwhelming. Managing data information has become a job in itself, yet it is an important one. In today's global economy, networks have created ways to rapidly transmit data. As a result managers must be able to obtain current data quickly in order to make informed and up to date decisions. This requires readily accessible information at their fingertips in order to analyze. Instantaneous recall information is often crucial, and in order to achieve this, efficient file management is a must. How can information management be effectively orchestrated? In days past people used notebooks, filing cabinets and other manual file management systems. Unfortunately in today's competitive atmosphere this is counter-productive. The key to solving this dilemma is to install information systems that can acutely address business processes and meet the organizational goals in a timely manner. Software applications have revolutionized the way data is sorted, collected, stored and analyzed. Managerial understanding of how these programs can increase the value in a business is critical in order to remain viable in any competitive industry. Another benefit to this is that it gives the organization a shared knowledge base, something that was absent when workings off have filed papers. “A management information system (MIS) is a computerized database of financial information organized and programmed in such a way that it produces regular reports on operations for every level of management in a company”(INC,2006 )Information systems are implemented to manage data and turn it into something valuable - knowledge. A word of caution - computerized information management is only useful if strategically implemented. Misinterpreting the benefits of this will result in poor organization of information. If the latest technology is put into place without being in sync with organizational needs, it will be useless and this form of information management will create more liabilities than benefits. While the technical aspects are significant, what's more important is being able to correctly identify mission objectives and properly assess what is entailed in task processing. When this is sufficiently analyzed, it's easier to put together information systems that can reflect and meet the needs of the company. An organization that is effectively is able to generate knowledge from data to and turn it into valuable information is well on its way. Information today is driving society. Finding the solution to successfully managing it, however, is the gateway to unlimited potential.

Imagine only three (3) points are to be rolled out in the first phase. Evaluate each point to determine the most important three (3) for the initial rollout phase.

1.Providing computing capability to all organizational units that legitimately require it.
It means to make all the computers extremely fast, accurate and reliable.
Can handle large volumes of repetitive tasks.
Can store large amounts of information and can recall instantly.
Can communicate with its operators and with other machines. It is capable of interactive processing in which the user is put in direct communications with machine.

2.Contain the capital and operations cost in provision of computing services within the organization.
Make sure you have a good understanding of all operating expenses associated with the operation of income producing properties. 3.Satisfy special computing needs of user departments.
Ask yourself what you need for a computer. Once you determine what you need, select the computers that meet the needs and hopefully then you can afford. Most people have a computer that the basic work processes, web browsing, sending e-mails, etc.

4.Maintain organizational integrity in operations that are dependent on computing
At the core of any great company is a set of well-defined values and beliefs that guide the definition of the behaviors, systems, and practices required to achieve the business goals. A strong corporate culture assists in attracting and retaining talented people. It also creates an environment that enables those talented people to realize their full potential. 5.Meet information requirements of management. Give the organization all the information needed in time.

7.Allow organizational units sufficient autonomy in the conduct of their tasks to optimize creativity and performance at the unit level.
Each organizational unit should be allowed a high degree of autonomy to manage its local knowledge.

8.Preserve autonomy among organizational units and, if possible, increase their importance and influence within the larger organization. * Different planning and reporting requirements allowed across organizations * Different timelines for re-planning, re-forecasting, and creating what-if scenarios allowed across organizations * Flexibility of each organization to determine how much information needs to be shared with other organizations, and with the parent company * Decreased risk when rolling out to various business units due to the option of phasing deployments over time

9.Make the work of employees enjoyable as well as productive. * Employees need to know they are working on worthwhile things * Employees need to know they are appreciated * Employees need to receive compliments on their work * Employees need to know their input and opinion is valued * Employees need to know their work makes a difference

The most important three (3) for the initial rollout phase
1.Providing computing capability to all organizational units that legitimately require it.
2.Meet information requirements of management.
3.Allow organizational units sufficient autonomy in the conduct of their tasks to optimize creativity and performance at the unit level.

Recommend one (1) additional point the CIO should include in order to ensure the topic of security is addressed in the mission statement. Explain your rationale for the inclusion
