Strategic Planning Strategic planning needs extensive data collection if it is to be successful. An organization needs to know what is happening in its business, political, economic and social environment. It needs to know about its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It needs to understand what culture it has and whether that culture fits the environment in which it is operating. It also needs to have a clear idea of the values under which it wants its people to operate, who its stakeholders are and how the organization is going to interact with those stakeholders. All this before it starts to go through the formal planning process. Introduction

...he problem with Compaq is that they developed too much IT architecture using financial advisory, where R&D and openness keys to development and the culture, while ignoring the environment. Open communication and trust was barricaded and destroyed by ASK (financial IS). The workers were being motivated by fear, much like Geneen in Morgan’s Images Of Organization. From an IT architecture standpoint, numbers based on the finance division depicted the entire company, even the organizational structure. The organizational structure did not align with the IT architecture, and the culture did not align with it either. Morgan stated, “The division of labor characteristic of industrial societies creates a problem of integration, or what may be more accurately described as a problem of integration, or what may be more accurately described as a problem of “cultural management.”” Compaq started as a functional structure, changed into a divisional fairly soon and then back to functional. Culture was strongly emphasized over anything else. CASH stated, “The process encompassed a whole range of ideas, including (1) the rule of inclusion, (2) teamwork, (3) “working the issue,” and (4) consensus building.” The IS system at Compaq did allow the free-flow of information through email named “B-mail.” ASK was used for financial services so that the company could easily track orders, and know where it stood financially. The culture felt monitored by ASK operators since it “becomes responsible for...

Local Area Network

...Step by Step Guide to Setup LAN for Internet Cafe and Homes Creating a Local Area Network is very easy. You can either hire someone to do it for you or do it yourself. In both cases the guide that follows comes handy. It teaches you how setup a LAN for your home or office or Internet cafe. LAN is a network of connected computers and it can be used to organize a LAN party with your friends so you can enjoy multi-player games with them. In business it can help you share files between computers and share a single Internet connection. Other uses of LAN are sharing Internet connection with neighbours and reducing the cost for everyone in the neighbourhood. Requirements: 1) UTP Cat-5 Cables [pic] UTP Cat-5 Cables 2) RJ-45 Connectors [pic] RJ-45 Connectors 3) Crimping tool [pic] Crimping tool 4) Cable stripper [pic] Cable stripper 5) Broadband router [pic] Broadband Router 6) Switch [pic] LAN Switch 1. Choose a central location for the switch and the Broadband router 2. The cables from each outlet will reach the switch so locating the switch along with the router at the center of the network is the best option to save the cable lengths. Place the router and the switch close to each other. 3. Measure the distance of each computer from the switch. 4. Prepare cables to connect the computers with the switch. 1. Cut the required length of the cable. 2. Strip it up to 2 inches with the stripper from one end 3. Arrange the cables in...

Although this seems true, I read that Ethernet fabric will rival fiber optic transmission capabilities. We must keep in might that a network is only as fast as its slowest component. The biggest issue with using CAT is that in starts to lose signal after 100 meters, it needs to be sent through a repeater, or a switch to regain signal strength. Copper vs Fiber

...Copper vs. Fiber Category 6 cable: Cat 6, is a standardized cable for Gigabit Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Advantages • Speed and Performance • Similar Structure with Cat 5 Cable • Backward Compatible • Upgradable Disadvantages • Expensive • Does Not Guarantee Full Speed Fiber Optic Cable: This is a cable made up of super-thin filaments of glass or other transparent materials that can carry beams of light. Because a fiber-optic cable is light-based, data can be sent through it at the speed of light Advantages • High bandwidth • Long distance between terminals. Disadvantages • Fiber optic cable is more expensive to install than using metal wire. • Fiber optic cable is much more fragile than metal wire. • fiber optic cable is more difficult and more expensive to "split" because de-modulation from light back to electrical signals and then re-modulation back into light for each new branch is necessary using an electronic "splitter unit". A Real World Example Fiber-optic cables are used extensively in the business world in local area networks (LANs). These independent networks use large quantities of fiber-optic cable to connect up campuses, business complexes, closed-circuit security systems, interstate business divisions, and workplace PCs from cubicle to cubicle. Data-intensive businesses want ever-faster networks to improve employee productivity. Resources ...

...System Development Life Cycle Document Jessica Fuentes CIS/568 June 24, 2013 Gonzalo Rosa Background Riordan Manufacturing is a subsidiary of Riordan Industries that specializes in plastics. They employ more than 500 people worldwide with projected annual earnings of $46 million (University of Phoenix, 2002). The controller reviewed the training budget and identified higher than budgeted costs related to emergency training on new systems. Furthermore, override approvals demonstrate the lack of new project training costs in the product development budget unless coded to the wrong cost centers. The director of human resources verified training was not incorporated into the project training costs. The executive board approved distance learning solution project to address these rising and unbudgeted costs. With an $80,000 budget this project leads training through teleconferencing. A systems development life cycle (SDLC) provides an organization with a process for success in meeting the strategic goals in phases (University of Phoenix, 2013). This is the simplest methodology to organize a project. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how an SDLC provides Riordan with the necessary tools to meet the organization’s needs in the timeframe and cost constraints outlined by the executive board. Project Planning The project identified by the controller is distance learning through teleconferencing. The project provides a solution to training costs excluded from the...

Software Applications

...Choosing Software Applications Jasmine Hives CIS/568 August 31, 2015 Kenneth Pinaire Choosing Software Applications It is vital that you choose a software tool that fits the requirements of your application today and with no trouble balances as your system develops. Currently there is an entire innovative group of software products that bring the value IT consultants are looking for. Many have been built to provide the competences essential to function as a service provider combined into the enterprise. “Organizations generally seek technology as a method to increase productivity, solve issues and save money.  Not having a well-defined strategy for purchasing software could result in the purchase of varied software products and services that actually cost you more money in the long term, due to long-term maintenance costs, lack of use or the use of similar systems to fill in the feature gaps” (Rogers). Using the following criteria in evaluating software: functionality, cost and financial terms, vendor’s success stories, and security; it will guarantee that you select a software solution that meet a precise business necessity. In this paper I will describe how using the selected criteria would help in choosing a software application for an organization. Functionality When selecting a software application you must first look at the software’s functionality. The organization should ask the question: Does the package do what the organization needs? Functionality is the...

Technology Roles

...Technology Roles Timika L. Hite CIS 568 July 23, 2012 Sundar Sinnappan Technology Roles Kudler Fine Foods is a grocery store chain that currently has three locations and sells high-end gourmet food to consumers. The business appears to be well run and is obtaining a profit a review of the business was commenced to determine if there are any deficiencies that need to be addressed. After a review of all departments it was determined that a deficiencies existed in the human resources department in combination with the Payroll Department. The deficiency is that currently employees manually have to record timesheets, have them reviewed by the Store Manager, faxed to Payroll and finally entered by hand into the Payroll System. To address this deficiency it has been determined that Kudler Fine Foods needs to implement a web-based timesheet tracker system. To implement any new information technology system in a business environment the entire system must be researched and considered to make the implementation as smooth as possible. In the previous needs document, Kudler Fine Foods was shown to have a need for a new web-based time sheet entry system. The needs documents also explained two use cases on how the technology could be used. The first use case was the timesheet entry. In this use case, the employee would complete a timesheet on the website and submit to store manager for approval. To build this system it is necessary to design throughly the system and account for...

Air Pollution in the Manila

...Abstract Exposure to high levels of air pollution can cause a variety of adverse health outcomes. Air quality in developed countries has been generally improved over the last three decades. However, many recent epidemiological studies have consistently shown positive associations between low-level exposure to air pollution and health outcomes. Thus, adverse health effects of air pollution, even at relatively low levels, remain a public concern. This paper aims to provide an overview of recent research development and contemporary methodological challenges in this field and to identify future research directions for air pollution epidemiological studies. Introduction It is well known that exposure to high levels of air pollution can adversely affect human health. A number of air pollution catastrophes occurred in industrial countries between 1950s and 1970s, such as the London smog of 1952 [1]. Air quality in western countries has significantly improved since the 1970s. However, adverse health effects of exposure to relatively low level of air pollution remain a public concern, motivated largely by a number of recent epidemiological studies that have shown the positive associations between air pollution and health outcomes using sophisticated time-series and other designs [2]. This review highlights the key findings from major epidemiological study designs (including time-series, case-crossover, panel, cohort, and birth outcome studies) in estimating the associations of exposure...
