The zip code community of 53218 is no exception. Some of those positive features of the 53218 community has prospective features such as its existing available clinics, multipurpose community centers, such as the Silver Spring Community Center, and numerous outreach programs through organizations including Growing Power and the Milwaukee Outreach Center. Unfortunately, it is still considered one of ten zip codes in the Milwaukee County designated in the “lower socioeconomic status” group as reported in the Milwaukee Health Report (Chen, et al., 2011). The lower SES group, including 53218, as a whole is at risk for (1) a growing rate of obesity related to a poor nutritional lifestyle, (2) a continually decreasing gynecological health among the female population between ages 12 and 19 related to a lack of enforced education and rising teen pregnancy-related issues, and (3) a consistently low level of neighborhood safety related to motor vehicle accidents and rising crime rates. Community Strengths The community of 53218 has three main areas of strength: (1) several available clinics, (2) an abundance...

...considered not having access to good healthy food? There are large amounts of people who don’t have access at all especially in deteriorated urban settings which suffer from a form of food deprivation called food deserts. Cities such as Detroit, have areas where mini- marts and fast food restaurants are their easiest, if not only access to food. In some cities people are becoming creative in solving this problem with a community driven “grow your own” approach that improves local health and economy simultaneously. Education is the First Step to Healthy Food Choices “Low quality food is resulting in diabetes, obesity, and sickness from processed food” (Bybee 2009). Bybee (p15) paraphrases Will Allen with the ideas that if people are not educated about good food choices, it makes a difference in what they choose to eat. Moreira and Padrão (2004) found lower economic classes may not have education on food nutrition decreasing the occurrence of healthy food choices. By being aware of best food choices when variety and fresh produce is available food dependent sickness is almost entirely eliminated. Once educated, access to better food choices depends on local availability. When there are few local grocery stores it takes time, transportation and money to gain access to healthy food, let alone any food. After the great recession in which grocery stores went bankrupt as a result of local car plants leading to job losses and spending decreases, larger food chains now...

We all will get there one day so it’s best to start planning now and consider the following: crime rates, location (is the city a safe place to live?), education, climate, economy (is the area affordable?), transportation accessibility, recreational activities, and population. Although there are many other variables one can examine, these are the factors that are most important to me. I selected the three cities that I would like to retire based on the above factors and in choosing the location, for example I wanted to ensure that the area would be nearby public transportation, hospitals or medical facilities because it is very crucial to my health and well-being...

During 2005 the company reported the 19th consecutive year of record revenues and record earnings. While Harley Davidson’s growth has slowed over the past several years the decline in growth rates are primarily attributable to a maturing market, which results in lower growth rates for all member of the motorcycle sub-industry. During 2006 Standard and Poor’s predicts that the motorcycle sub-industry will grow between 1% and 3%, a much slower rate than the double digit annual gains the sector saw throughout the 90’s and late 80’s. Despite the company’s strong financial outlook the stock price has not been performing well over the past year. The stock price fell dramatically in April 2005 when Harley Davidson management lowered guidance of new motorcycle shipments to the network of independent dealers. ...to achieve some specific standard of living. This means a person working forty hours a week, ”should be able to afford housing, food, utilities, transportation, health care and recreation” at a basic level. (Wikipedia.org). Currently, a living wage is set by local municipalities based on a local cost of living assessment, and applies only to government employees and/or contractors. This is different from minimum wage, which is set by law through the Federal government. The federal minimum wage is the minimum amount that a worker can be paid an hour and this law applies to nearly all workers. In Michigan, the minimum wage is currently $7.40 an hour. Minimum wage does not always meet the requirements of a living wage. (Wikipedia.org). For example, in 2008, East Pointe, MI paid its employees a living wage of $10.40/hr , while Detroit, MI paid its employees and contractors $8.25/hr, both with health benefits in comparison to $7.40/hr Federal minimum wage.(laborstudies.wayne.edu/ According to the Economic Policy Institute, “the living wage level is usually the wage a full-time worker would need to support above federal poverty line, ranging from 100% to 130% of the poverty measurement”. (EPI Issue Guide – Living Wage, p. 1). A full-time worker supporting a family of four should make at least $21,200, which is the poverty line. Cities and counties with a higher...

Founded in 1903 in Milwaukee, WI, Harley just celebrated its 100th anniversary with a series of events around the world that culminated in hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists rallying last summer on the shores of Lake Michigan. In 1929, there were 241 motorcycle manufacturers in the US. After the Depression, only two remained: Harley and Indian. By 1953, Indian went out of business, leaving Harley-Davidson as the only American motorcycle manufacturer. Financial difficulties in the 1970’s led to the parent company, AMF putting the motorcycle division up for sale. Without a buyer, a group of Harley managers bought out the company and rescued it with a business turnaround that included brand extensions into licensed goods, such as apparel and related accessories. Now...

...management system, with a complex and constantly changing array of prices. It is also the same incentive that led railroads to invent a variety of price and quality differentiation schemes in the 19th century. Privacy intrusions serve to provide the information that allows sellers to determine buyers’ willingness to pay. They also allow monitoring of usage, to ensure that arbitrage is not used to bypass discriminatory pricing. Economically, price discrimination is usually regarded as desirable, since it often increases the efficiency of the economy. That is why it is frequently promoted by governments, either through explicit mandates or through indirect means. On the other hand, price discrimination often arouses strong opposition from the public. There is no easy resolution to the conflict between sellers’ incentives to price discriminate and buyers’ resistance to such...
