I have been interested in the field of criminal justice since a young age. I never really knew what exactly what I wanted to be within the field until about two years ago. I was interested in becoming either a probation officer, or a private investigator. The idea of a private investigator came about watching shows such as NCIS and CSI. I always found myself really into the episodes, and actually seeming to be solving the case right along with them. My interest sparked with being a probation officer after I met my brother’s PO, and she explained to me her job description, and why she did what she did. I really am into helping others, and leading others on the right track. I feel this job is a fit for me because I can take someone who is troubled and help them get to a better position in life.
Both sets of job skills relate to my professional goals because these are the two jobs I am interested in to meet my career goal. I know to do either job, I already possess good communication skills, verbal and non-verbally. I am also an active listener, which plays a part in the communication skill. Becoming a Private Investigator would probably be more complicated for me because I am not very good at analyzing data and information, I lack computer skills, and my knowledge of the law is more so what I have learned thus far in this class, along with few things I remember from high school. In order to achieve these skills, I would take up a data analysis class and basic computer class to help me where I lack in those areas. As far as my knowledge of the law goes, I would also take a class for that or just do more research on my own to get a better understanding of the law.
I do not really lack any skills needed to become a Probation Officer, but there is always room for improvement. I could probably take a time
