Improving Company Q’s Attitude Towards Social Responsibility
Company Q has exhibited a consistent attitude of disregarding the needs and desires of the area in which they serve. They prefer playing it safe instead of expanding their thought process to think outside of the box. The company seems to have no sense of commitment to serving the community along with consideration of the bottom line. It took years for them to heed the wishes of gives the general public the impression that their business and desires are not important. There they will take their money elsewhere. Their attitude concerning fraud is very much flawed. When you give to a charity, such as a food bank, the company donating to the charity receives a receipt for all money, services and goods donated. Simply throwing away the food does not provide this accountability and security. First of all, Company Q should gain the trust of their prospective customers. They can begin this process by giving to the food bank. Once these communities see that you are genuinely showing a more benevolent attitude toward them, you can start reopening one store at a time. Announce ahead of time that you have heard their wants and needs and are returning to better serve them. You then begin stocking up on the health conscience, organic foods that they desire. Since these are high margin items, you start with a significant price break to introduce these new products. Company Q should also consider having somewhat lower prices on all of their items in the high crime areas. This may draw outsiders to visit the stores for the lower prices, that otherwise will not come into a high crime area. The donations that go the other areas will promote customer loyalty in the other areas as well. This will offset the cost initiatives in the high crime areas. You can then begin a customer feedback initiative to show how much you care about your customers. That you will not only listen to their feedback, but also respond. By showing concern for the communities by giving to the food bank, reopening these stores and showing that customer’s concerns are a priority will go a long way towards improving Company Q’s sense of social responsibility.
