Fiction Versus Reality

...Fiction versus Reality CJS/220 02/13/2011 Crystal l. Wagoner This will be my final project for this class and it will be on Fiction versus Reality in the court room. This final project is due no later than February 13, 2011. In this project I will be explain the difference between television perspectives (fiction) about how court room drama is versus the real deal (reality). I will select a fictional television court room drama from the court television web site to help with my research, and then I will describe the fictional portrayals of the court room, including the trial process, the roles of the prosecution and defense, the roles of the court room participants and the handling or implementation of rights for the defendant and the victim. Then, draw parallels between the fictional portrayal and the reality of the court room within above identified aspects. I will then determine the accuracy of the fictional court room process as compared to that of the court room reality. I will also explain in my opinion, Given that entertainment differs from reality, what impact would fictional account of courtroom practices have on the average citizen’s perceptions of the real-life courtroom process. There are many people that make up a reality court room like: the bailiff...

Legal History

...Bombay High Court 1 1862 - 2012 A Journey of 150 Years through some Memorable Judgments Part 1 2 PREFACE A tiny kernel of an idea planted by Justice Mridula Bhatkar took root, and has resulted in a humble effort to present before you a compendium of the crux of some of the judgments of the Judges who have served the Bombay High Court since its inception in 1862.1 The initial idea was to document one judgment of the First Court from each year which was modified to include a judgment of the Bombay High Court of each year. I soon realized that it was too expansive an idea to merit a single judgment a year. I could collect and collate, as many as ten judgments which would qualify to show the development of the law we desired to portray. Having found too vast a number of such judgments, I had to settle at a more reasonable figure of about five judgments each year to showcase the progress this Court has made from its illustrious beginnings. Our Chief Justice Mohit Shah and our Justice Chandrachud wholeheartedly supported the idea to complement the Book published on this the sesquicentennial of our Court. As the number of Judges grew, fewer judgments of each Judge would be selected as illustrations. These judgments are not the only path-finding groundbreaking ones; they are also ones with simplicity and legal elegance. The number of judgments we settled upon just would not permit all deserving judgments to be compiled; only a few have been picked from each year as the first in...

Light-Induced Rod and Cone Cell Death Andregeneration in the Adult Albino Zebrafish (Daniorerio) Retina

...Light-Induced Rod and Cone Cell Death and Regeneration in the Adult albino Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Retina Thomas S. Vihtelic and David R. Hyde Department of Biological Sciences, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556-0369 Received 24 January 2000; accepted 25 April 2000 ABSTRACT: Light-induced photoreceptor cell degeneration has been studied in several species, but not extensively in the teleost fish. Furthermore, the continual production of rods and cones throughout the teleost’s life may result in regeneration of lost rods and cones. We exposed adult albino zebrafish to 7 days of constant darkness, followed by 7 days of constant 8000 lux light, followed by 28 days of recovery in a 14-h light:10-h dark cycle. We characterized the resulting photoreceptor layer cell death and subsequent regeneration using immunohistochemistry and light microscopy. Within the first 24 h of constant light, the zebrafish retina exhibited widespread rod and cone cell apoptosis. High levels of cell proliferation within the inner nuclear layer (INL) were observed within the first 3 days of Light has been an effective and popular environmental method to experimentally induce photoreceptor cell degeneration. The light treatment can irreversibly cause photoreceptor cell loss through apoptosis (Shahinfar et al., 1991; Li et al., 1996). Factors such as light intensity and exposure duration, length of dark adaptation before light exposure, and ocular pigmentation influence the retinal damage in mice...

First Course in Probability by Ross

...A Solution Manual for: A First Course In Probability: Seventh Edition by Sheldon M. Ross. John L. Weatherwax∗ September 4, 2007 Introduction Acknowledgements Special thanks to Vincent Frost and Andrew Jones for helping find and correct various typos in these solutions. Miscellaneous Problems The Crazy Passenger Problem The following is known as the “crazy passenger problem” and is stated as follows. A line of 100 airline passengers is waiting to board the plane. They each hold a ticket to one of the 100 seats on that flight. (For convenience, let’s say that the k-th passenger in line has a ticket for the seat number k.) Unfortunately, the first person in line is crazy, and will ignore the seat number on their ticket, picking a random seat to occupy. All the other passengers are quite normal, and will go to their proper seat unless it is already occupied. If it is occupied, they will then find a free seat to sit in, at random. What is the probability that the last (100th) person to board the plane will sit in their proper seat (#100)? If one tries to solve this problem with conditional probability it becomes very difficult. We begin by considering the following cases if the first passenger sits in seat number 1, then all ∗ wax@alum.mit.edu 1 the remaining passengers will be in their correct seats and certainly the #100’th will also. If he sits in the last seat #100, then certainly the last passenger cannot sit there (in fact he will end up in seat #1). If he sits in any of the 98...

Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742, USA, bgolden@rhsmith.umd.edu Edward Wasil2 Kogod School of Business, American University, Washington, DC 20016, USA, ewasil@american.edu The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a difficult and well-studied combinatorial optimization problem. Real-world instances of the VRP can contain hundreds and even thousands of customer locations and can involve many complicating constraints, necessitating the use of heuristic methods. We present a software library of local search heuristics that allow one to quickly generate solutions to VRP instances. The code has a logical, object-oriented design and uses efficient data structures to store and modify solutions. The core of the library is the implementation of seven local search operators that share a similar interface and are designed to be extended to handle additional options with minimal code change. The code is well-documented, straightforward to compile, and is freely available online. The code contains several applications that can be used to generate solutions to the capacitated VRP. Computational results indicate that these applications are able to generate solutions that are within about one percent of the best-known solution on benchmark problems. ...INTRODUCTION Advertising What is Advertising? Advertising is a non-personal form of promotion that is delivered through selected media outlets that, under most circumstances, require the marketer to pay for message placement.  Advertising is, in fact, the most prominent and powerful medium in the present commercial world. It creates an entire world view, shaping our attitude and beliefs. Advertisements permeate every aspect of life and most of us are hardly aware of it. it largely depend on how an individual bring works and so utmost care is taken to exploit the emotions that play an important role in establishing a firm memory of an advertisement and predisposing the consumers to buy the brand that is being advertised. Over a period of time, advertising has been undergoing morphing changes slowly and steadily with multi-facet approach. Advertising has long been viewed as a method of mass promotion in that a single message can reach a large number of people.  But, this mass promotion approach presents problems since many exposed to an advertising message may not be within the marketer’s target market, and thus, may be an inefficient use of promotional funds.  However, this is changing as new advertising technologies and the emergence of new media outlets offer more options for targeted advertising. Advertising also has a history of being considered a one-way form of marketing communication where the message receiver...

...information quality (IQ) influence system use and user satisfaction, which in turn impact system success. A structural equation model (SEM), using LISREL, was used to test the measurement and structural models using a convenience sample of 674 students at a Midwestern university. The results revealed that both system quality and information quality had significant positive impact on user satisfaction and system use. Additionally, the results showed that user satisfaction, compared to system use, had a stronger impact on system success. Implications for educators and researchers are reported. Keywords: IS Success, E-Learning, User satisfaction, System use, System quality, Information quality 1. INTRODUCTION Both undergraduate and graduate courses are experiencing a migration away from the traditional classroom and toward a greater emphasis for electronic delivery of content (Allen and Seaman, 2008). This trend cuts across all departments and schools in the university system but is especially critical in business schools, since the preparation of students for successful business careers will rely on the students' abilities to accurately assess the quality of and rapidly adapt to the changing systems that reflect radical technological advances. The Information Systems Success (ISS) model focuses attention on the information and system quality of specific IT...
