This painting is dedicated to Clara Barton, was a nurse during the Civil War. Clara Barton was born in 1821 in Massachusetts. Before the Civil War she worked as a clerk and a teacher. During the Civil War, she was able to organize able bodied men to perform first aid, carry water, and prepare food for the wounded. Clara’s supply wagon traveled with the Union army providing aid for Union casualties and Confederate prisoners. She even used her own money to provide most of the quartermasters in Washington D.C., after the war, she was repaid by the government for all the money she has spent for their benefit after the war.
