The goal on my campus is to have our special education in as many out classes as possible. It is always best if the student can be around his peers, in a similar learning environment with every other student. For this to be success, teachers must collaborate and have strategies in place, to ensure the student can achieve in the classroom. A student of mine that I will call Ricky is a special education student who tends to get frustrated easily, board with school work, and displays outbursts in class. Ricky does not display violent behavior, but he will distract others when he has nothing to do. Ricky spends most of his day in out classes or general education classrooms, so it is important that interventions are in place to ensure Ricky is successful. …show more content…
Ricky’s toughest class is English and it’s the subject that gives him the most trouble. Ms. Brewster is the English teacher and we came up with a plan that will help Ricky in his learning environment. Some background about information about Ricky, he is a seventeen-year-old junior that has a very low self-esteem of himself. Ricky gives up on himself, and his school work to easily. When that happens, Ricky starts to display negative behavior. During our PLC meeting, Ms. Brewster and I both felt we need to improve how Ricky feels about himself. It is important that we improve his self-esteem, because that will improve his work and his behavior. Our plan is to give Ricky frequent, positive, and effective feedback. There is a lot of research that shows positive reinforcement leads to improved behavior (Classrooms Behavioural Strategies and Interventions, n.d.). The positive feedback can be verbal, a high five, or simply a smile and nod of the head towards Ricky. The bottom line is we feel that if we can keep Ricky positive about himself and his work, we will not have any negative behavior. ...My initial classroom observation went totally different from what I was expecting. I was extremely nervous to be just "staring" at students and typing on my huge laptop.
