In this category, my CT and I had pretty similar results. The easiest to track was that I was consistently on time and focusing on my observation. Both myself and my CT could easily track that. We also both said I was proficient in maintaining a positive attitude when dealing with her and her students. I tend to be a naturally positive person, at least on the outside, so this was not much of a struggle for me. My CT probably noticed me smiling or laughing with some of the students. Even on days where there was not much to observe, I was just happy to be in the classroom. The one place we differed was self-starting. She scored me as proficient whereas I placed myself in basic. I scored proficient across the board for this category. The principles that were specifically looked at where honesty, fairness, compassion, and mutual respect. These are very people oriented concepts, and being the people pleaser that I am, it is hard for me to not act on these ideas. I remember having a conversation with one boy in the class who was telling me about his dyslexia. After that day, I started to pay attention to the way he completed his work, trying to see if he was needing some extra help or prompting. I do not know if Mrs. Guilliams say that, but that is a big reason that I scored myself the way that it did. While in the classroom, I always had the utmost respect for the teacher, the students, and the content. I was always ready to learn. Hopefully, this is why I was placed in proficient by my CT in all three …show more content…
For being an effective team member, I ranked myself as basic. I tend to hover in the back and not impose myself on to people. As the semesters have gone by, I have seen myself more and more involved with the students. But I still feel a little out of place sometimes. My CT also marked basic for this category. She wrote on the paper that I and quiet and observant, and that with time, I will gain the confidence to ask questions. Looking back, I realized that I really did not ask many questions of her. I marked myself proficient for both eager to learn and accept diversity as well as realizing the impact I have on others. I love to listen to people and I liked getting to hear about the student’s lives: what they did for fun, how they learned, what their families were like, etc. I was also very aware of the words that I used with the students, knowing that I did not know everything about their situation. I was careful to watch how I impacted them. My CT also decided that I was proficient in these areas as well. When I was walking around the classroom, she may have seen me getting to know the students a little better. She probably also watched their reactions to me. Reed’s kindergarten class is the observed classroom; the class consists of 15 children ranging between five and six. ...Classroom Observation Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher. Upon speaking to the principal about observing he assigned me to Mrs. Johnson’s third grade class, because she was the best organized. I was surprised when I walked into the class and it was not pristine and in perfect order. Shelves are organized with baskets but the baskets are overflowing with books. I sat in on a Novice level class taught by Mrs. Veronica. The students were all around 20-30 years old. The general demographic of the students was Hispanic and African. They were all enthusiastic and happy. I enjoyed sitting in on this class and getting to know the students and the teacher. After observing Mrs. Veronica’s class I saw that even though this was a Novice level class most of the students were at an upper reading level. ...The approach I took here was to observe children as they progressed through a particular school system. Looking for some correlation or trends and some educational building as it relates to transitioning from grade to grade. In this observation I observed a teacher I already had contact with.
